telling the audience something horrible before switching to the POV of a character who doesn't know anything in the next chapter. watching the rest of the scene play out knowing they're wildly misinterpreting an already bad situation to be even worse without knowing, which makes it worse. compounding angst and hurt because the original character knows how they're being perceived and there's nothing they can do about it. making the reader fill in the gaps of what's really happening through the pain.
