This spoke to me because it’s a collage which I love.
It was similar to how my sketchbook currently looks in brainstorming my CAS project.
I like the focus on hair, and the lack of faces on some of them.
The vintage feel of this piece brought me in aswell.
I like that it feels like an old commercial or newspaper ad.
Salomé Dancing before Herod, 1876
I enjoyed how textured this painting is.
I feel like this art feels like you can tell someone put a lot of thought into everystroke.
I enjoy how the light hits the woman in the painting, it draws my gaze there.
I also had questions about this piece like who is the woman?
Why does she have everyone's attention?
I also enjoyed the atmosphere of the painting it gives very royal palace fantasy
Boulevard Montmarte, Mardi Gras, 1897
I was first drawn to this painting because of how chaotic it seemed
When I looked at it I didn't realize what the painting was trying to display because there's a lot of colors going on.
When I took a closer look I observed the massive crowd of people on the right of the painting, which surprised me because I hadn't seen them before.
I also saw that the paint was very textured.
The majority of the background is also just squiggly lines but as we zoom out look like trees and buildings.
Urban Weaponry Project, Weapons of Mass Creation, 2018
This was my favorite overall because it was an optical illusion for me.
This shovel has many little tiny people on it made out of what seems to be paper mache but at first, I didn't see that and thought it was a gray shovel and when I looked closer I literally jumped.
I really liked how looking closer kind of revealed a whole new ecosystem of little figures.
My second favorite shovel was Bejeweled with many watches, bracelets, and funky pins.
I really like this one because it made a face that appeared to be crying with pink teardrop jewels.
I like it because it also looks so happy because of all the flowers and fun pins throughout the whole entire shovel even the handle was bejeweled.
A Sinking Island Floating in a Sea Called Space-1, Space-2, 2024
These initially drew me in because I recognized the artist from when he had artwork in LACMA.
I also liked how contrasting these pieces were to other pieces around them. Many pieces were very nature-y these were not.
I also really liked how simple these pieces were stylistically.
The different shading that you could see in the paintings was super interesting and gave the figures more depth.
I really enjoyed how they were both looking at each other and peeking at each other, it is kind of playful.
