School’s been a pain in the ass, but I’m finally back and will answer on threads! My apologies for the absence.
Mari nodded, paying for them. She frowned at that next question. She couldn’t exactly be honest about what she did, especially in public. She could, however, be honest to a point.
“I’m not in school,” she answered. “I can’t afford it.” That much was true. She neglected to mention that she didn’t graduate highschool, either. That bit was unimportant. Her main hobby was lockpicking, but since she used it to break into places, she figured she would keep that to herself. “I work odd jobs,” she finally said. “Contracts and the like.”
They’re less-than-legal, but contracts, all the same.
“ Ah.. I was home-schooled. Contracts, jobs.. What kind of jobs? “
Crossing her legs Angitia looked at Mari with interest. Was she a seller or maybe a voluntary? The girl wanted to hear about it, but of course still she knew what her powers could do if she took a grip on Mari’s hand and what sort of sins she had committed but still she had interest.
Angitia seemed to get lost in her memories while talking about her home. Did she miss it as much as Mari missed hers? It would make her feel better to not be the only person pining for home.
“Sounds beautiful,” Mari responded. She settled on a sandwich from the menu and glanced at Angitia. “Let me know when you’re ready to order.” The least she could do for a kid who was alone in the world was buy her dinner.
Leaning over the counter the girl settled for the pancakes and then turned her head against Mari again. “ Indeed, it is. “
Never had she seen herself sit like this with a person she just knew and talk about herself, tell about things she never had told anyone before. Was this what it meant to develop friendships, is that what they called it? She didn’t know. “ So do you have any kind of work or are you still in some sort of school? Hobbies? “
Mari shrugged, smiling as she let the door close behind them. “Italy. You’re a long way from home, hon’.” She lead the teen to the counter, waiting on her to read the menu while studying it herself. “Lots of open fields, once you leave town.” she answered. “Nothing around for miles. Warm and dry, too, most of the time. Except in spring. Tornado season makes the most impressive storms.” She trailed off, homesickness stopping her words for a moment.
“What’s Italy like?” Mari finally asked, nodding to Angitia. She had always been curious, but it was more for the historical aspect of Italy than the modern one. That didn’t mean she couldn’t find out what was going on there now.
“ Ah, sounds exciting. I’ve always found storms quite interesting. “
Learning herself at the counter, while looking at the menu to order she spoke up again.
“ Italy is warm and calming, so much to see of history, architecture, nature and the ocean.. so lovely and calming. Where I was born you could just open your door or window and the first thing you noticed was that blue.. beautiful and clear water in front of your eyes.. “
It was like Angitia could speak about her childhood home for hours, it was the place she missed the most and she still feels bad about not visiting it since what happened all those years ago, it made her feel indifferent to talk about it with someone she barely even knew.
How does a kid find the money to go all of those places?
“Yeah,” Mari agreed, choosing not to ask as she opened the door to the diner, holding it for Angitia. “Friends make everything easier. It’s nice, having somebody to talk to.”
There was a difference between talking, though, and digging into someone’s personal life. As much as Mari wanted to keep talking to the strange kid, she wanted to keep it light. Small talk, she could handle.
“I was born in Texas,” she answered, shrugging. “The only other place I’ve been is here, so I guess I haven’t travelled much.”
“ Such a shame Mari. “
Stepping into the diner the girl turned around with a small “ Thank you. “ to Mari for holding the door after stepping inside. “ Texas huh? I was born in Italy. Never been in Texas before though, only the bigger cities like New York and Los Angeles. How is it in Texas? “
Traveling to places she had never been at before was always a curious adventure for the half-demon. New places were always exciting for her to see.
Alone? Mari understood what it was like to be alone, but she hadn’t been subjected to it at such a young age. Sure, there was nothing holding her back, but there was nobody lifting her up, either. It got lonely. She would give almost anything to talk to her family again.
“Yeah, but having a group of people to help you get there is nice, too,” she finally responded. She could see the sign for the diner now. They were almost there. “So, you just travel at random? Where were you before here?”
“ I’ve been in England and Italy mostly, also South America which is quite exotic. “
“ But it does get a little lonely to travel alone sometimes as well, having a friend by your side isn’t the baddest thing to share your adventures with though. “
It made the half-demon secretly angry about confessing to be lonely sometimes, she didn’t need to seem weak in front of people and certainly not her enemies, but then why did she tell it to someone she barely knew now? it it seemed like she had known Mari for years and not minutes for some reason.
“ Have you ever travelled some places before? “ She turned her head against Mari with a bright smile on her face.

“I’m twenty-six,” Mari answered with a shrug. Fifteen, huh? That was around what Mari thought. What was she doing out here alone? “Do your parents know you’re out here?” Mari asked, turning down the street. She could’ve easily run into a fellow troublemaker.
Not that she wanted someone that young to commit crimes. The worst she did was probably sneak out and the like.
“ No, I’m all alone by myself. “ She was twenty-six? speaking with someone in an age far older than her own mortal one felt calming, getting someone to know like that was always interesting for the hybrid.
“ I travel alone and it’s quite lovely, you should try it. There’s no one to stop you from your desires and dreams you want to fulfill. “ Actually she was lying a little to herself, it would feel nice to have someone a family-member, friend, lover or generally person by your side was something you would appreciate after having been alive for so long and having been through so much, as a survivor. But she didn’t exactly regret the things she had done to get where she was now and to still stay alive.
“Sure,” Mari answered with a shrug. She had nowhere to be particularly fast, and it was hard to say no to Angitia, for some reason. “Come on,” she turned around and started back the way she came.
She waited until they were nearly out in the open before glancing over at Angitia. “How old are you, anyways?” She was guessing around sixteen or so, but she could be wrong.
Walking along side Mari she looked up at her by the question.
“ I’m fifteen. What about you? “
She smiled to herself by the question about her age, little did people know though, she had been fifteen for a long time. But who could know? Immorality didn’t exactly get boring for her either.
She could never get the opportunity to age and had long-lasting youth forever, she could travel as much as she wanted, she could seek some sort of adventure anywhere just like now, there was many possibilities by her secret.
Oh, it was far from lovely, but it was usually never boring out there, so Mari guessed that made up for it. And, even though she wasn’t in this specific area all that often, she could remember passing a diner. She had passed a couple of bars, too, but she wasn’t about to take a kid to one.
“I think there’s one up the street back there,” she answered, gesturing behind her. “I can take you back there, if you want.” Normally, she didn’t care to be that helpful, but for some reason, she liked this particular girl. She wasn’t sure why, but did it really matter?
“ Sounds nice and yes, I would love that. “
“ Then at least I know I won’t go in the wrong direction again, perhaps you would like to join me for a meal or drink, Mari? “
For some reason today it seemed that she felt like being kept in the company of someone for once, not just for her own amusement nor boredom and this person seemed quite interesting for her to perhaps befriend.
“Angitia,” Mari echoed, nodding. That was actually a unique name. Far more unique that hers.
“I live on the other side of town,” she answered, smiling a bit herself. It was rougher out there. Far more threats to deal with. She never ran into a kid in an alleyway that just wanted to have a conversation, though. The way Angitia was keeping eye contact and smiling was a good sign that she wasn’t planning anything, unless she was a good actor.
“I’ve only been here for a few years,” she added after a moment. “We just haven’t run into each other.”
“ Oh, that explains the situation and sounds lovely to live there. Would you maybe know where the closest bar or diner is from here Mari? “ She looked questioning at the woman in front of her with a bright smile planted on her face.
“ I’ve been here for a few weeks, but it’s still a bit confusing. “ Laughing sarcastically by her own self, the half-demon stepped a little closer with no sign of threat and only the need to seek a place where she could eat something proper.
Someone like her? Oh, no, an edgy teen. This couldn’t end well for either of them, in Mari’s experience. Someone usually ended up hurt, and telling Mari that everyone should stay out of trouble sounded like she was being either warned or threatened.
“Right,” she finally answered, watching the girl’s hands. “I’m Mari. Your name is…?”
It was bizarre that Mari didn’t feel inclined to give her a fake name, but she didn’t think much about it. What could she do with a name that sounded so generic, anyways?
“ You have a unique name Mari, I’m Angitia. “
“ Do you live around here or are you new in town? Haven’t really seen you before, but I’m a traveler myself kind of, so maybe that explains why. “
Not exactly staring like a creep into Mari’s eyes, she kept looking up at her with a wide smile, but not wide enough for someone to get goosebumps across their skin. But if the half-demon dared to even think about creeping someone out, she could have done it just by snapping her fingers in a few seconds and the person would feel extremely uncomfortable and felt need to avoid the smaller girls maroon embers boring into them.
Mari didn’t know why, but the way the other one was talking made her nervous. She really didn’t want to fight a teenager. “Im just taking a short cut,” she explained vaguely. “I can take care of myself, though, so don’t worry about me.” She paused. “Someone your age is probably in more danger out here than me, you know.”
“ Oh no, I don’t think so. I can perfectly take care of myself, people tend to think little of me a lot, but it is quite the opposite with someone like me. “ She chuckled a little.
“ But it is nice of a stranger to tell me to stay safe and out of danger and of course you should stay away from danger as well, wouldn't want something bad to happen for anyone. “
Little did many know though Angitia shouldn’t keep away from danger.
WHEN SHE WAS THE DANGER, and she sure was good at hiding it from others behind her pretty little face that could make a Saint sin itself, but who could even dream of such things lurking? No one could and that’s what she was enjoying so much on a good hunt during the night.
“ May I ask for your name, stranger? “
She put her hands by her front, holding a grip on her arm with the other hand in a calm manner and a wide smile on her face.
