“I may have to squirrel myself away in that case, I just can’t handle handle gnarly bruises on pretty faces.” Lewis grinned, reaching across to the little cabinet beside his bed for his bottle of water. The shelf of it was stuffed with an array of sweets, some brought to him by the Lost Boys but the most of them provided by his mum who abided his sweet tooth while chastising him.
“Nah, it’s okay. I’m already coming up with a whole load of stories for this thing.” He gripped the bottom of the bandage wrapped around his head and lifted it, showing her the stitch work on his forehead that was angry and healing.
“Is everyone else okay?”
“You’re cute.” She tapped the slide of his jaw lightly. “But you’ll have to learn something, kid. I’m so much more than a pretty face. Couple of dents isn’t going to change that.”
Her eyes began slightly darker as Lewis showed him the stitches. More Lost Boy blood split is all she could think. The anger of it all was bubbling under her skin, waiting for a moment to be unleashed. This wasn’t it. “I think you should go with taking on a shark and winning. I mean, that’ll get the babes.”
Rubbing her eyes, she shook her head. “A couple are battered and shaken. Everyone else is... angry and not sure what to do with it. We have no direction right now.”
