Hello, fellow punks. A quick note. It's become increasingly important to us, in our limited activity, to conduct our band in a way in line with the ideals under which we formed and continue (even now, make no mistake) to exist. Part of the reason you haven't seen very much of us over the past couple of years is that, due to the usual obstacles (work, family, geography, other bands), navigating the space between what is of interest to us, and what is possible for us (given those obstacles), has been an ongoing struggle. In the face of DIY™ as marketable genre and seemingly no teenage "punk" band without management and booking agent, rather than succumb to easy opportunities that would compromise our beliefs, we've instead pushed ourselves that much harder to make absolutely certain that everything Paint It Black does is exciting to us on levels both ideological and gut.
Tom Ellis of Static Shock Records has been a dear and valued friend for roughly a decade, since even before he booked us that secret show in Guildford with CEREMONY and The Sceptres (first and foremost, we have always been Shitty Limits obsessives). So it is with no small amount of gratitude on our part that he has once again helped us to put together our first proper London show in seven years, on 23rd April of next year.
The existence of the DIY Space for London has been a thrilling prospect to us ever since Bryony Beynon (of the aforementioned Sceptres) informed us of it's planning, and now that it's long since open and functioning successfully, there's no other place we can imagine playing our only London show for the foreseeable future. (Some of us are even card-carrying members, btw!) Especially in the wake of the Ghost Ship tragedy, which has affected us all so very deeply, we don't take the survival of spaces like these for granted. We are humbled by the work of the folks who run it and the opportunity to play there is a great one.
We've found that operating as such, even as we play less, the shows mean that much more. Tickets for our London show are on sale now. We'll see you all in April.
