A 'Weenicon' inspired poster for Frank 'n' Steve's Monster, made earlier in the year. The full film can be viewed here: http://www.youtube.com/attribution_link?u=/watch?v=G0gqz9pHk48&feature=share&list=UUiXt94Afsgn3otIw8fq3Trg&a=WZmm_DHO2NCZ0X6zeBZuYg
Oh, all right then! One more! Back before I'd done Goldeneye, I was stuck for ideas. I did, however, have one image stuck in my head so I dug out my copy of The Hildebrand Rarity and flicked through to the description of the titular fish! (It being Fleming, I knew there'd be one! That guy sure liked to describe stuff!) Then I took a quick selfie and traced over my features (adding some much-missed hair) to take on the part of Milton Krest in his grisly final moments!
That really is the end now.
So, there we have it! All 23 Bond movie posters done!
The World is not Enough ended up with something resembling an ad for the Olympics - only with more saw blades! Still, I rather like this one, and I think I've ended on a high!
Now I just need to find something else to do with my time....
The sinking of the St. Georges is the inciting incident that sets in motion the plot of For Your Eyes Only. What better image to use as the poster image for the film? As with all of the films, there were countless more obvious images I could've gone for - The yellow 2CV was very tempting! Having said that, I'm pleased with the grungy simplicity of this one, and I think I capturing the foreboding menace of that pesky lurking naval mine!
GoldenEye is a popular answer these days to the question "Which is the best Bond film?" But only from people who haven't actually watched it since its release! It's one of those films that is better in your memory than when you go and revisit it. Helped immeasurably by the hugely successful Ninento 64 game released in '97 - which is actually more entertaining than the film that spawned it! - The film has garnered somewhat a legendary status far beyond what it deserves. It's not a bad film... the opening scene is iconic. But unfortunately, it never reaches those levels again.
As for the poster, I couldn't get the image of Ourumov 'executing' Trevelyan out of my head - it makes such a strong silhouette too, so I opted for a kind of triptych depicting The Birth of Janus. Brosnan's silhouette is in there just to remind you you're in Bond territory here!
Licence to Kill is next and once again, I got to play Bond in the picture! That's right! That's my body.... with Dalton's head. Quite an image, huh?
This poster captures that heartbreaking moment when Bond discovers Della... poor Della. She was nice. I guess marrying a DEA operative is as bad an idea as marrying a secret agent!
Next is Casino Royale!
The initial concept - Bond pursuing Mollaka across stacks of poker chips - came quite quickly, but I struggled with the finishing details on this one: What level of grain? Effects? Swirly things? Font?.... In the end I think it just about came together.
I'll admit, it did cause me to perspire a little... But I won't consider myself to be in trouble until I start weeping blood!
The whole way through making this, I wasn't sure if I was actually making the final poster or just playing around with ideas... then all of a sudden, I'd created this rather nifty little piece for The Spy Who Loved Me.
So, obviously there's Jaws throwing a big-ass block at Bond... but then there's a couple of geekier things going on as well: The angular line on which the title is placed is actually the trajectory of the Polaris Submarine, as shown in the film. Additionally, those 3 large pillars in the background are actually X's in strange font! Get it?
The most evil of all the Bond plots, carried out by the eloquent Hugo Drax in the ultra-camp Moonraker!
Maybe that's that problem with the film (Because, let's be honest - it's a stinker!)... Michel Lonsdale plays Drax as a well-spoken, mild-mannered, tea-drinking, cucumber sandwich-eating, pheasant shooting gentleman who is clearly highly intelligent if slightly boring. Yet his plan could only come from the mind of an absolute loon!
Whereas most Bond villains' plots usually boil down to simple extortion or revenge, Drax doesn't seem to have much motive behind his plan to - get this - KILL EVERYONE IN THE WORLD AND REPOPULATE IT WITH A FEW SELECT 'PERFECT SPECIMENS' WHILE HE GOVERNS THE PLANET FROM HIS RICKETY DRAINPIPE SPACE STATION!
Only Fish-fetishist Stromberg approaches this level of lunacy with his poorly thought-out plan to start a global war then hide in an underwater city!
Needless to say, the film takes an all-too-camp approach to this plot, but I tried to tone that down a bit with this poster - instead aiming for a darker feel. Did it work? Who knows?
There's no news... like bad news!
I got a new drawing tablet today, and thought I'd utilise it for this poster for my favourite Brosnan Bond film - Tomorrow Never Dies. Although it's fairly simple in concept, I couldn't have done it a day ago! With the pen, I could hand-draw the coastlines and the silhouettes with much greater precision!
It would've come in handy on Live and Let Die, though!
You Only Live Twice!
Once when you are born
And once when you look death in the face!
I decided to stick to 3 colours and I think it kinda evokes a Japanese feel... There are a couple of subtle allusions to the film in there too: The fan-like spokes mirror those seen during the title sequence... The figure of Bond can be seen as he sinks to his watery grave... And did you spot the droplets of poison trickling down the line?
Whooooaaaa! The Living Daylights!
Dalton's stunning debut gets the simple yet bold treatment in this piece.
I defy any true Bond fan to look at this picture and not hear the words 'Where has everybody gone?'.
I'm not one to let how crap a movie is affect how much effort I put into the poster! Case in point - Die Another Day.
Here's the story: I actually started making the hexagonal pattern in one composition to copy to another and wrap it around a dome shape to look like the Eden Project diamond mine seen in the film. Have you ever tried to draw a hexagonal mesh pattern onto a dome shape before and get it looking right? I gave up pretty quickly when I realised the image looked way cooler flat.
Then I added lasers... because everything is better with lasers.
