We’ve finally, thanks to Helen Collard, got the tape recorder working and playing back! I tried the first bit of recording this afternoon and it sounds great. The aim now is to have the main tape rehearsed and recorded by the end of next week to give me  something to develop the physical performance around. Oh and to practice running a reel-to-reel tape recorder live on stage! :-)
