a little pathetic ron is very important to me
and he is
like, what's so hard to understand
Working it.
WIP
So… I re-emerged from a 1+ year art block recently…
feeling very rusty, but I'm really hoping I can finish this! Honestly, now that I'm not as depressed, drawing actually feels kinda nice… Knowing myself, it's probably still gonna change a lot in the process (idk what it is about it, but something about the face anatomy and the way the head is attached to the neck seems kinda wack to me. and the eyes. well. whatever, I can fix it surely...). I just felt this impulsive urge to share because it's the first time in a while I've kinda felt good about myself, I guess
Also Cesar's likeness is really hard to capture, like... boy why are you so elusive...
I'm kinda trying to capture Augustin's resting bitch face here idk if I'm succeeding lol
ahem... as you might've noticed I'm a bit of a fan of César Domboy and I was going through his filmography some time ago. I thought I might share some things that I thought were worth watching if anyone is interested!
The Walk (2015) is probably the best movie he is in (well, it was made by Robert Zemeckis so... duh). I think this movie is kinda overlooked. I mean, the reviews for it are not bad, but a bit too low for what this movie is imo. It's a very lighthearted piece that actually made me laugh a few times, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt gives a great performance here. 7/10
Rich Flu (2024) has some abysmal reviews, but please give it a chance, and if you hate it let me know why, because even after reading a lot of reviews I still don't quite understand why people hated this movie so much. Don't get me wrong, it's not perfect or even great, but it has an interesting concept that is, well... kinda poorly executed, but not nearly as poorly as people make it out to be imo. Many criticize it for being tone-deaf and for some scenes that seem illogical or stupid, but like, it's supposed to be a very over-the-top satire, and we're clearly not supposed to root for the main character here, which makes me think a lot of people just misunderstood this movie. I'm usually not a fan of catastrophe movies, but this one has such a fun concept, and honestly I even think it was kind of a bold film. I mean, criticizing billionares is not some avant-garde idea, but not that often I see entire movies made about the topic and being so uncompromising too. Maybe I'm giving this one too much credit idk. Anyways, Mary Elizabeth Winstead my beloved. 6/10
Culte (2024) is a 6-part tv series. I didn't necessarily love it, but it was watchable and I enjoyed some parts of it. César's character and his relationship with his dad I thought were pretty interesting. I don't know much about the real story it's based on, but it looks like it's dramatized, though otherwise pretty accurate, and people seemed to enjoy it. Maybe I'm too used to big tv productions like hbo, so I'm being too harsh on it. Anyway, it's quite short, so give it a go. 6,5/10
Paradigmes: le film (2021) is a documentary about the band La Femme. Imma be honest, I didn't know about this band prior to watching the doc, but I ended up listening to them and I liked them a lot, and I still listen to them. It's free on youtube, so if you're a fan of this band but didn't know about this movie, or just enjoy new wave/cold wave, give it a go. I don't usually rate documentaries, but I'll give it like 7/10 I guess. Nothing too fancy, but it was fun. And omg the way César is slaying in this... 🖤🕶️ (upd.: idk why I kept calling it a documentary, I thought i saw it in genres somewhere... my bad. Well it's more like a fictional tv show/promo for their album)
Most people probably know him from Outlander and ehhh I won't say too much, but I tried giving it a chance multiple times and I just can't. Clearly it's not for me.
I'm currently excited for his upcoming project, La Famille. There aren't a lot of details yet, but it's apparently about a Parisian cult, and it seems like Cesar is playing one of the main characters (?). It's already began production and should come to netflix and the bbc (?)
If you have anything to add, please let me know your thoughts!
P.S.: this is a blog about SAS: Rogue Heroes but if you somehow got stranded here and never heard of it, please go watch it. There are a lot of very talented british actors in it, and it has great production. Even if you're not into war history,well... neither was I, but here I am reading ww2 veterans' biographies. Scary stuff. It's actually a great show to get into ww2 with because not only does it start fairly early in the war and explain everything like you're 5, but it also prioritizes characters and being actually fun to watch rather than feeling like a documentary. It's kind of a common consensus that season 2 is much weaker, and honestly I have a lot of issues with Steven Knight's writing in general, and some of the s2 dialogue is just sooo bad like omg. But even then, s2 still has its moments and overall is still a fun watch. César doesn't have a big role here, but I think it's a very memorable one. 9/10 for s1 and 6,5/10 for s2
thinking about this bts picture from season 2 again

A quick film rec for folks who are enjoying Half Man:
Femme (2023) with George MacKay and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett
(TW: violence against black queer protagonist)
This movie also explores the relationship between toxic masculinity, patriarchy and homophobia; the cycle of violence, and how people end up living lives that aren’t their own - and how that affects them. Personally, I felt it was a nuanced film that tries to start a dialogue and approach all sides with empathy. It's a very intense viewing experience with some amazing acting, so yeah, give it a shot
finally gave in and watched the first episode of Half Man - here are my first impressions:
what the hell
Stuart Campbell is great in this <3
what the hell
tbh, I can’t say I’m a fan yet. I saw someone saying it's a bit wattpad fanfiction esque, and yeah I definitely see that lol. although there are some things I don’t really like, I admit it’s (un)fun to watch, and I’ll definitely keep going
though some of the dialogues and scenes feel clichéd, you can tell that this was written by someone who understands toxic family and romantic relationships on a deeper-than-surface level
I love that when I first saw young Niall, i thought he looks like a deer in headlights, and later Ruben actually calls him Bambi. 10/10 casting, no notes
New SASRH season 3 bts pic from Corin's last ig post ✨

personally, I love this shot because if you just glance at it, it looks as if he's on his phone
