Kibum slowly pushed the door of the tutoring center open, anticipation halting their steps. They had rarely ever been to tutoring in their life. It wasnât that they had never needed it, but they were unfamiliar with the setting. New things always made them nervous. Not to mention that they were never sure who they would need to talk to or correct about their gender or pronouns. Or who would argue with them about it. Or who would need educating. Meeting new people was a hassle at best, and dangerous at worst
Kibum took their first steps into the room, clutching their notebook tighter to their binder-flattened chest. If they think youâre a boy, just roll with it. They didnât mind being referred to as male, but if they could, they would try to get people to use gender neutral pronouns. However, in this new environment, they only hoped that no one would refer to them as female. They shuddered at the thought.
They made their was over to what appeared to be an available tutor at an otherwise empty table. The tutor sitting there was undeniably lovely in Kibumâs eyes, and was working on their homework. Kibum cleared their throat and set their notebook down awkwardly on the table.
âAre you an English tutor?â Kibum asked, their voice coming off as much more confident than they felt.
There was a rustling of papers as Taemin restacked them, eyes crinkling in a smile as their gaze shifted up to the newbie. From behind a shaggy curtain of hair, Taemin pulled loose an earbud. Nothing was playing it was just to keep noise buffered as he worked.
âChyah,â they said around the plastic stir stick in their mouth. âNeed some help? I just finished my T.A stuff so now is kind of perfect if you do. Er..â
They extended a hand full of papers before thinking at the other student, âIâm Taemin.â
There was a brief second of silence before the tutor broke into a laugh, light and lilting. âFuck itâs Monday.â
Kibum blushed faintly at the chirp of the otherâs laughter. They brought their own hand up to meet Taeminâs and shook it a little. âIâm Kibum. Kim Kibum. And I could use your help, if you think youâre up to it,â Kibum replied, sitting in the empty chair beside the one Taemin was sitting in a moment before.
âSee, the problem isâŚwell Iâm normally a good writer. Er, a pretty decent one.â Kibum wrinkled their nose, silently chiding themselves for sounding arrogant. âThe problem this time is that I have a ten page short story due in two weeks and no idea what to write about. âMy friend Jonghyun said that maybe the tutors here could help me figure something out, or at least give me an idea of where to startâŚ.â Suddenly flustered, Kibum stopped their explanation. Taemin probably didnât care about Kibumâs inner turmoil.
And the way Taemin was looking at them did not help calm Kibumâs nerves in the slightest. Why was the other just staring at him like that?
Taemin was shaking the otherâs hand and nodding, but in truth had lost them after âIâm Kibumâ. The tutor was slightly lost taking in the otherâs appearance; the sidecut that was just slightly grew out and cutely curling at the ends, the smooth skin, and those pink lips. Taeminâs teeth were tugging at their own bottom lip as they drank in Kibum. Reel it in Taem.
âUuh! Uuh,â they cleared their throat and mind, âYeah, well, letâs start with the actual assignmentâs rules. Was anything off limits?â Are you off limits?
Taemin had moved, offering Kibum their seat, and was sliding down into the seat across the table now. They flipped open a spiral notebook and rummaged their backpack for another pen. As Taemin did this they returned the stir stick to their mouth, humming around it as they waited for Kibum to speak again.
Kibum blushed harder as they watched Taeminâs teeth work at their lips, causing them to nearly forget why they came. But with the help of their inner Jonghyun, Kibum did their best to cool the redness creeping over their face.
âNo, Iâm pretty sure Iâm free to do whatever,â Kibum replied, pushing a stray lock of hair behind their ear and out of their face. Is this flirting? Am I flirting? Is it subtle? Iâm not subtle at all am I. Focus Kibum!
âI-I mean thereâs no limit to the topic, as long as itâs more or less âschool appropriate.ââ Kibum made finger quotes when they spoke the last two words. They stared down at their notebook in an effort to concentrate on the task at hand, and not the way Taeminâs mouth looked playing with the stir stick. âI havenât really written anything substantial. The trouble is, Iâve started about a dozen different trains of thought, but they never lead anywhere and always end up stopping dead a few paragraphs in at the most.âÂ
It frustrated them to no end, the writerâs block. It was as though they had walked down a dozen different roads, only to hit an impassable brick wall, with not even a window to see what might happen on the other side of it. Kibum was sure the pressure of the approaching deadline, as well as their other school related anxieties, was at least part of the reason that their inspirational and motivational drives had come to a screeching halt.Â
Kibum looked up at Taemin, frustration stinging their eyes. âIs there any way you can help me?â

Hikaru was sprawled out on the bed, scrolling through pictures of carved pumpkins on his phone. He and Kaoru had decided that they wanted to try the commoner activity of pumpkin carving this year and they were running out of time. With less than a week left until Halloween, Hikaru still hadnât decided what he wanted to carve. He had thrown several suggestions into the air and Kaoru had shot all of them down. They were terrible, but Hikaru couldnât think of anything else.
He turned to his brother who was doing something on the other side of the room. Hikaru sat up and whined softly.
âKaoru, help me think of something!â

â~In (street)Passing~â
Kibum closed his door on the voice of his neighbor, rolling eyes as he set his keys down in the bowl on the table in the entryway. It would be Minho who was yelling about his video games, but he blamed Jonghyun anyway. Minho never acted like that around Kibum. Key put his bag down and sat down unceremoniously on the couch before pulling out his 3DS again. He started up Animal Crossing: New Leaf, which was one of his favorite games. His other friend Taemin was a fan of the game as well, and the two often played together. He texted Taemin with an offer to come to his town. [Text] To: Taeminnie Acnl? [Text] From: Taeminnie cant, at work [Text] To: Taeminnie Dude!! You shoulda told me, I was just there!!! Kibum rolled his eyes for the second time that hour. He supposed he would go down and visit Taemin at work anyway. Taemin made his drinks exactly the way he liked, so he wouldnât lose anything by going and getting another drink. Key grabbed his things and headed out the door again, waving to Onew as he passed the building managerâs office. He liked the man, who was only a little older than himself. If he couldnât talk to Taemin about something, he would often go and talk to Onew instead. The two had become very good friends. After a few minutes of walking, he saw the big shooting star sign that stood prominently above Shining Star Cafe. Key especially liked it because it lit up at night, bright multi-colored lights glittering against the deep blue sky. On more than one lonely evening, Kibum had stood on his apartmentâs balcony and wished on the sign as though it was a real shooting star. When he got close, he realized that Jonghyun was sitting outside, probably waiting for his shift to start. Key scowled. He forgot that his neighbor worked nights at the cafe.
-* Jonghyun was deep in the developing plot line of a book he typically read before work when the edge of his senses picked up on the foot falls of someone nearby. Taking mental note of the page number he was on, he looked up from the text in time to see Kim Kibum approaching. Inhaling a focusing breath, Jonghyun gave him a (forced) sincere smile.
âYou again,â he addressed his neighbor once he was near the door, âDonât you ever get tired of coming here?â
He didnât really care what Kibumâs answer was, he was simply obeying the five foot customer rule. Jonghyun hated it because it forced him to interact with people. The interacting wasnât the problem so much as the fact that in certain circumstances it had to be with rude customers, customers that creeped him out or, in this case, his neighbor.
He stood and readjusted his apron as he listened for whatever answer was given. Further following the rules set down by the store manager he made a half-hearted gesture at the door. âMay I hold the door for you?â
Kibum shrugged, nodding in the general direction that he assumed Taemin would be in. âYou and I both know that I make a point of coming here when Taemin is working.â Kibum had no interest in telling Jonghyun that this would be his second time in the cafe today. That was none of the other boyâs business.
   âAnd yes, you may.â
Kibum gave Jonghyun a victorious smirk as he slid past the other man, making a point of keeping space between them. When he was inside, he found Taemin shaking his head at him from his place behind the register, a chiding look on his face. Key approached him somewhat sheepishly.
âYou really shouldnât antagonize him like that! Heâs trying so hard to get along with you. Why do you have to be so difficult?â Taemin chastised.
Kibum straightened his back, his hands finding their way to his hips. âWell I wouldnât have to be if he was a better neighbor!â
Taemin sighed. âHow is he a bad one? If you should be blaming anyone, it should be Minho.â
Kibum dodged the question with an order of jasmine milk tea with boba. Taemin continued giving him unsatisfied frowns until Kibum took his drink and made his way to his favorite seat in the front corner of the cafe by the window. He looked out at the sky. The rain had long since subsided. The clouds that remained were dyed colors that reminded Kibum of a nostalgic song. It was like looking at an old photograph whose colors had been faded by sun and time. His tired eyes traced the lines of the biggest, puffiest cloud, picking out and admiring each color it reflected. He loved these days, when it rained through what were supposed to be the hottest hours of the day, but by sunset only thick fluffy clouds remained.
He sank back into his seat, pulling his 3DS out yet again, opening his game to where he had been, in the middle of watering his flowers. After finishing up that chore and talking to his villagers, Kibum closed his game. He longed for another message from Blingbling, but he knew it wouldnât come for at least several more hours. He sighed, looking back out through the window. From his seat he caught a glimpse of Jonghyun leaning against the outside wall of the cafe. In the fading red-gold light, Jonghyunâs hair looked like strands of gold and chocolate, blowing about his face in the light breeze. in the black uniform of the cafe, which outlined Jonghyunâs figure, and his features resting peacefully, Jonghyun looked almost handsome.
   Almost, Kibum scoffed to himself.

For fragrantradiance âĄâĄâĄ ~â~â~â~â~â~ Kibum sat in his favorite seat in his favorite cafe, Shining Star Cafe, drinking his favorite beverage: passionfruit green milk tea with boba. He ran a hand through his hair as he pulled out his mint green 3DS XL, taking a careful sip of his drink. The notification light flashed green, indicating a Streetpass had occured. This had been happening to Kibum nearly every day for a while; he would go to his favorite cafe, order his favorite drink, and sit in his favorite seat. Then the Streetpass notification light would flash. He knew who the streetpass was, too. Some idiot that named his Mii Blingbling. It was just stupid enough to make Kibum laugh, and the two had been shyly flirting via Streetpass messages ever since. Key opened the Streetpass app and watched as three people lined up. The first two were random people he had passed somewhere and Key held down the right corner trigger to speed up the dialog. The third was Blingbling. He had written a personal message, as usual. The bubble said, âGood day?â Kibum pulled out his stylus and laboriously tapped out a response. âYeah, you~?â He closed the console, putting it away as he finished the last of his tapioca. Kibum wrapped his raincoat tightly around him before setting out into the rain, making his way quickly back to his apartment, which was close by. It was one of the reasons Shining Star was his favorite cafe. That, the free wifi, and the excellent drinks made for an excellent shop. As Key passed the door of his neighbor across the way, he sneered. Some cheering and yelling was coming from the apartment, sounds of competition. Kibum thought it must be one of his neighborâs stupid loud video games, paired with the manâs close friend Minho being there as well. Key had the impulse to yell and pound on the door, but instead he grimaced and opened the door to his own apartment, leaving Jonghyun to his obnoxious antics.
â * The little green light flashed on the side of his sleek black Zelda edition Nintendo 3DS making the corner of Kim Jonghyunâs lips turn up into a grin. He let his tongue run along the lower one tasting the jasmine milk green tea flavor of his boba drink. He stood and reached for his black apron after flipping the handheld open and reading his now daily message from âKeyâ. He began StreetPassing whoever they were a few weeks ago when he got his new 3DS after Minho talked him into it. Jonghyun couldnât say that he regretted the purchase after he started to flirt with 'Keyâ- it was fun and a way to start his day before taking his night shift at the boba store just up the street from the apartment where he lived.
âWoooo!!â a cheer erupted from the living room as Minho scored a goal in his favorite FIFA game. Good naturedly Jonghyun gathered his stuff (handheld too) left his room and went out to scold his friend.
âYAH!! Keep it down or my lame ass neighbor will get on my ass again. That guy literally does not know anything about a good tiââ he was cut off as Minho threw a couch pillow at him.
Looking beyond his long-over-due-for-a-trim hair Minho lifted a brow. Granted, Jonghyun knew that Minho knew his neighbor pretty well but that didnât excuse the guy from being a jerk. Huffing Jonghyun walked to the door and pulled on his shoes. âLike okay I know you think heâs cool but heâs such a diva whenever I have to be around him. Itâs like he canât stand the fact that I even breathe near him sometimes.â
There was a laugh as Minho adjusted from his position on the couch to standing, gearing up to score another goal.
âWell maybe if you try brushing your teeth first before seeing people in the morning at the mailbox they wouldnât be offended by your dragon breath Jongers,â he said and gave a meaningful glance over at Jonghyun.
The other didnât even turn around at this remark, âFor the thousandth time Choi my name is not Jongers. Iâm heading to work, lock up when you leave, yeah?â
 "Yeah. And Jongdong?â
 "Ugh what?â
"You should try to talk with the neighbor, Kibum isnât such a bad guy. Iâd even dare to say that you might like him if you really got to know him. WOOHOOO! YES THAT IS WHAT IâM TALKING ABOUT!!â Minho interjected himself to cheer about his solid victory.
Jonghyun just rolled his eyes and walked out shutting the door and pausing in the hall to tie his apron around his waist. Thinking over what Minho said he huffed air into the palm of his hand and sniffed then shrugged. HIs breath wasnât bad at all, that asshat! Jonghyun heard another cheer and the turned in time to see the door across the hall start to open. He raced passed it quickly.
"Not my fault! Itâs Minho! Bye!â
Kibum closed his door on the voice of his neighbor, rolling eyes as he set his keys down in the bowl on the table in the entryway. How to Summon a Demon
For its-taemover âĄâĄâĄ
~â~â~â~â~
Kibum grumbled as he moved through the library shelves, eyes and fingers passing over the spines of books. âMinho doesnât think it can be done. Iâll show that asshole.â He passed more rows of books, stopping as he approached the right section. His eyes phased over books about mythologies, past guides to witchcraft, and he systematically ignored anything with âHistoryâ in the title. What he was looking for wouldnât be found in any of those books. Then he chanced upon it. The book he was looking for. âHow to Summon a Demon.â Kibum grinned and all but ripped the book off the shelf. He leafed through the pages, finding diagrams and recipes, all for summoning different kinds of demons. With a new vigor, he walked the book over to the checkout stand. The librarian eyed the book, and then Kibum himself. âItâs for a friend,â Kibum explained. And technically is was. Sort of. âYeah, rightâŚâ The librarian rolled his eyes knowingly, uninterested in whatever the boy was up to. When everything was sorted, Kibum shoved the book into his bag and nearly raced out of the library. He made his way to his car, then drove home with a smirk on his face. According to his Internet resources, this book would be his best bet to actually summon a demon. He was going to make Minho eat his words.
~â~â~â~â~
With a white candle burning, all and any doors and windows to his apartment locked, Kibum sat down on the floor and began to clear his mind. When he was in a more or less meditative state he began praying to Lilith, first in whispers and murmurs, then speaking out loud. He began to feel silly as he listed the qualities he wanted in a demon, specifically an incubus. When he finished describing his ideal demon, he said a final incantation. âAll these words are my deepest desire, I mean them truthfully and swear to them in name and blood.â Kibum then pricked his finger with a needle (which hurt more than he thought it would) and let a drop of his blood fall into the flame of the candle. He thought for a moment that the flame flickered red, but perhaps it was just his mind playing tricks. He wanted this ritual to work. Key sat for the next hour or so, going over in his head again and again the qualities he wanted in his incubus, imagining what the demon would look like. When his legs started growing sore, and then numb, he decided it was time to call it quits. He blew out the candle and tried his best to change into pajamas, legs prickling. When he was safely under the covers, Key wondered how long the ritual would take. When should he expect his incubus to show up? What would his incubus be like? Just before he descended into sleep, Kibum felt a slight tingling on his cheeks, as though a feather-light touch was caressing them.
â It wasnât that Taemin wasnât interested. How could he not be? It wasnât actually everyday that a demon was summoned, but it had to be THIS day that some unfortunate loser called down a favor. From the time he started his day there was the tell tale sign of a summons, that warm and tingling sensation of someone whispering in an incubusâs ear, and it was driving him insane.
âThe time for daydreaming is definitely not now,â boomed his teacherâs voice from the head of the room. It did little to affect the glazed over expression on Taeminâs face as  he stared absently at the clock over head. âAre you even paying attention Taemin?â
At this he blinked and shifted his eyes to his instructor again, a haughty look pulling at the features of his face. He never paid attention in this class. To be frank he never paid attention in any of his humanology classes. Being that he was the son of the sole ruler of the underworld he felt just a little entitled not to care. But he blinked again and dawned the same smile they had been instructed since their first lesson in seduction and answered.
âSorry, I seem to be lost in your eyes. Can you repeat that for me?â he mimicked his lessons.
Around him there was the snickering of his classmates as the teacher pinched the bridge of his nose. Taemin wondered if he might get bruises there from the amount of times that he had been fed up with his pupils antics.
âIf you donât take this class seriously how do you ever expect to do well on your exams later. Futhermore, how can you expect to understand how to blend in with the hum-ARE YOU EVEN LISTENING RIGHT NOW?!â
Taemin was already standing, already moving toward the exit. That whisper was fading and he wanted to hear it again. It wasnât that Taemin wasnât interested in class. How could he not be? It just wasnât everyday that HE was summonedâŚ
The next morning, Kibum woke a little disappointed not to find his incubus standing at the foot of his bed. He got out of bed anyway and started preparing for his classes down at the college. After a quick but thorough shower and a small healthy breakfast, he began collecting his school supplies. Today, he packed his drawing supplies for his art class and his notebook for creative writing. With his school things in tow, Kibum headed down to the college. When he arrived, Kibum met up with Minho, who was at school for math and sports. He approached Kibum with a stupid smirk, as though he already knew the answer to the question he was about to ask. âSo? Any luck?â Minho asked, bumping shoulders with Key. Kibum scowled at his friend. ââŚNot yet, but the book said you might have to wait until your demon appears!â Minho scoffed and rolled his eyes. âSure sure Kibum. Let me know when your little incubus shows up and then weâll talk.â âGo throw a ball or something, Minho,â Key shot back, smiling in spite of his words. Minho waved and turned away, headed to the sports field. Key scoffed and turned to go to the art building where he arrived early at his drawing class. In the minutes before the instructor arrived, Kibum pulled out his sketchbook and drawing pencils. He began absentmindedly sketching what he imagined his incubus would look like.

Hikaruâs gaze travelled with a smirk over Kaoruâs body as she watched her twin stretch. The only thing Hikaru loved about her sisterâs athleticism was the way she looked in her gear and when she was in the midst of an exercise, though she constantly teased Kaoru about it.

âThanks Iâve been working on my âcute buttâ all winter. Hika-chan,â she paused as her eyes shifted to look out the car window. âYour skirt is âŚ.shorter than normal.â
"Well you're not the only one with a cute butt. And nice legs." Hikaru deliberately slid away from Kaoru, initiating a subtle game of cat and mouse. She yawned and crossed her arms. "What do you want to do today?"

Light crept in slowly, spreading like careful fingers across the bed and into the waking eyes of Kaoru. Through the mess of copper toned locks that hid her face from view she could just start to make out the figure beside her in bed. Deep in the security of a dream the face was that of her twin sister Hikaru, features soft and relaxed. It had been this way for three weeks that Kaoru had woken herself early for a morning run and had found herself taking far too long to gaze at a face so similar yet so different from her own.â¨Raking lithe fingers through her mane Kaoru propped up on one arm and peered down better at the sleeping being. Smoothing away a rogue lock of hair from Hikaruâs face she let out a sigh.â¨âYouâre terrible,â she said unafraid of waking her twin who slept heavily. â¨Rising from the bed and stretching Kaoru soothed her rumbled tank top and began to ready herself for the arduous task of her morning exercise routine. Over the simple black boyshorts she wore to bed as well Kaoru pulled on a set of bright blue running shorts and tugged on a plain white t-shirt. She was half way across the large bedroom they shared and fighting to gather her hair in a ponytail when she thought she heard something from the bed.â¨Stopping and turning back she eyed the still sleeping figure there for a few silent seconds before decoding it was nothing. Uandwrapped on the knob of their door she paused and looked back again before softly saying, âYouâre terrible because I love you.ââ¨Writing it off again this morning Kaoru left the Hitachiin home and began her run.

"How rude," Hikaru had mumbled, her voice weak with sleep and inaudible over the rustling of the bedding. She had woken instantly when Kaoru had left the bed. Hikaru usually was a deep sleeper when her sister was beside her, but the moment she was out of arms reach, Hikaru woke immediately.
Hikaru pretended to sleep, watching with one eye as her sister dressed for her morning run. She nearly groaned. Hikaru detested the unnecessary extension of energy, and hated exercise especially.
When the door had closed behind Kaoru, Hikaru pushed herself up, a curtain of flaming hair hanging over her face. She pushed it back, running a hand through it as she stretched and yawned. With reluctance, she swung her feet over the side of the bed and trudged over to the bathroom. With her night shirt deposited on the floor, she entered the room and turned on the shower. The air was soon filled with curls of steam and the sound of rushing water.
After a shower that lasted much too long, as Hikaruâs showers usually did, Hikaru exited the bathroom in a robe, her hair dark with moisture, dripping by her feet as she made her way to the closet. It being a weekend, she wasnât restricted to her school uniform, so she settled on a pale yellow off-the-shoulder t-shirt and a tiered rose-colored mini skirt.
With lazy steps, Hikaru made her way down hallways and staircases until she reached the dining room, sitting for a quick breakfast as a maid brushed her drying hair. When she finished, it shined like fiery silk. Hikaru thanked the girl and told her to call the driver and have him waiting out front with a town car. The maid replied with a nod and a âYes, my lady,â before rushing off with the remnants of Hikaruâs breakfast.
The driver made quick time, as he was waiting out front with a sleek black car as soon as she stepped out of the building. The man opened the door for her as she have her directions. âTrack the GPS on Kaoruâs phone and letâs go get her.â Hikaru eased herself gracefully into the car and the driver shut her door after her, then entered the car himself. Hikaruâs bored gaze drifted over the mansion as the car pulled away, looking a little dejected at being separated from Kaoru.
Soon the driver began rolling along slowly, and Hikaru spotted the familiar bright orange ponytail, swinging rhythmically, and her face brightened instantly with a smile. She rolled down her window and called out, âI love you too, jerk!â
