Baybeats 2012 hopefuls Atlas released their debut EP Questions & Answers today. There's some obvious Coldplay influence all around, especially with the addition of vocalist Alfy Hushairi. The band also claims to be, at least partially, "post-rock" (but you know how I feel about that). Still, there's lots of great reverb-drenched layers of guitars and synths, though the sloppy drumming brings down tracks like Genius (Life in Transit), which really begs for a human drum machine à la Phil Selway on Weird Fishes/Arpeggi.
All in all a promising attempt and enjoyable despite the technical imperfections.

Wake Me Up Music presents: One More For The Road
Wake Me Up Music, Singapore's premium indie record label, is taking a long long nap after more than a decade of contribution to the Singaporean music scene.
Before we take that nap, let's bring back the old times and have one hell of a party!
The two-day show will feature current and past Wake Me Up Music bands and also other bands who have been such great friends to us.
This will probably be the LAST TIME you'll see bands like Surreal, Sky in Euphoria, Vertical Rush, Marchtwelve, My Squared Circle and Pension State come together for a show like this.
So do come down and party with us for one last time.
Home Club (20 Upper Circular Road) 10 December 2011 (Sat): 8.00pm-10.00pm 11 December 2011 (Sun): 4.30pm-10.00pm $10 for 2-Day Pass (Tickets sold at door)

Pleasantry - Swan Song (live)
Achilous - Parallel Lives (demo)
A little hidden gem that the band submitted for Noise Singapore. Achilous bring a fresh sound to the crowded alt/post-hardcore scene and are great live too, with the very energetic John Mahathir's distinctive vocals (which you may have heard from trancecore band Ingride). Pity two of the guys have just enlisted for NS, but they're still working on a debut EP.
Baybeats 2011 openers Arajua have put up their debut EP Flickering Lights, Atmospheric Waves, launched earlier this year, for free download over on Bandcamp. If you've already picked up the EP, it's still worth checking out as the songs have been tweaked a little for this digital release.
SoundClouder of the Day | Life Without Dreams | Shadows of Buildings

Unexpected appearance of Etc’s mugs in the paper! Foreign 3-Way :: Bottlesmoker + Etc + (Free) Deserters is the week’s top gig pick in today’s Straits Times. And what an honour: it was chosen by Dino from beloved national treasures of Singapore: Force Vomit (and 1234X and The Guilt).
(Also… it’s not every day that one gets to be under a hairy crab and on top of Hatsune Miku.)
The boys from The Summer State wrote in to tell me about their new music video United Through Music, filmed at Baybeats this year for their single Hush, We're Taking Over. Lots of familiar faces from local music in there!
You can download the single and other songs over on their Facebook page »
