Hi @taylorswift,
Iâve been trying to write this message to you for almost 12 years now â right since I first heard You Belong With Me and knew I was a Swiftie for life. 2008 â I was an overweight, insecure, underconfident girl in sixth grade. I was bullied furiously for my looks, and I didnât do very well in school, so I buried myself in books and your music. Your music, your lyrics, your words got me through so much. In seventh grade, the bullying got really bad, and then in 2010, you released Mean. I cried when I heard it because in my heart I knew I had a friend somewhere in the world, if not next to me. It was the day I prayed you would come to Mumbai, to India for a concert.
In eighth grade, I first experienced the crushing weight of having an intense crush on someone (my neighbor) who didnât like me back. He was the popular kid, the jock, I was the unpopular nerd, it wasnât meant to happen. The number of nights I would stay awake watching the You Belong With Me video on repeat was countless. But I made friends, we bonded over your music. I started feeling less insecure because you told me I wasnât alone. You gave me hope.
In 2015, I was applying to college, and I knew it had to be New York. It was the RED era, and I was desperate to be in the city of dreams. You made it, and I would too. I applied and got into NYU, and in 2015 I moved to New York at the age of 17. Never Grow Up got me through my nights, and Welcome To New York through my mornings as I walked to class. I always dreamt of how I would bump into you on the street, and how I would hug you and tell you how much you mean to me. I still do. Throughout my life Iâve always felt that my path has aligned with yours â you release music, the words I need when I need them, and thatâs what kept me going. In one of the loneliest winters of my life, you released Reputation and I would hear King of My Heart and Dancing With Our Hands Tied as I walked in the snow. It never failed to make my heart warmer. (Btw, I am also a December baby, and it has always been my favorite month, and favorite time to listen to your music on repeat (like every day, my roommates thought I was crazy)).
Last year in the summer, I saw you for the first time for the Reputation stadium tour in New Jersey after waiting 10 years to see you live. You were so close to me when you came on the right side stage and you sang Dress. I was sobbing. Not like I wasnât sobbing when you sang You Belong With Me, or Style before that haha. I graduated from NYU this May, and Iâm now working in the Big Apple, in Times Square. Chasing my dreams with lightning speed because of the way youâve always inspired us to, to throw caution into the wind, take a leap of faith, just go forth and do. I am in awe of you every day, and Iâm so excited for Lover to come out. I hope this new chapter brings you as much joy in your life as you have brought me in every stage of mine. I just wanted you to know, I support and love you.
I hope I get to tell you this in person someday, but until then, I hope you read this and remember that through a hard day, thereâs someone here for you always <3
Yours, Pranati

THE CHILLS WHEN SHE SAID âBURNING REDâ SHE KNEW WHAT SHE WAS DOING
I love the Lover video because itâs not idealizing a relationship. Itâs the real thing: the fights, the disagreements, the jealousy, but also the good moments when you feel like every day is the best day of your life.
"In Prince terms, if Speak Now was her 1999 and Red was her Purple Rain and Reputation was her Parade, this is her Sign oâ the Times, the one where she shows she can do all her best tricks on one album. Her goopy guitar ballads, her new wave electro-pop, her Southern accent, her English accent, her brilliant ideas, her terrible ones, every corner of her borrowed and blue heart â itâs all here. Practically every song is saturated in her personal mythology, packed with tiny musical and lyrical details for only hardcore fans to notice â love the way she adds a lost glove to go with the lost scarf from âAll Too Well.â
