She’s wanted for her knowledge, not her lethal magic. She’s surrounded by books, a woman’s best friend. But when her former employer’s best friend is murdered on the steps of her library, old loyalties and secrets might destroy her - or set her free. Teaming up with her co-workers to find the killer might keep her from being booked for murder, but unless she’s careful, she’ll find out exactly how far her ex-boss will go to reclaim what is rightfully his. Title: Night Shifter(Magical Creatures Academy #1)
Author: Lucia Ashta
Pages:216
Synopsis: Rina Nelle Mont has never been a part of the paranormal world. Until now. Well, maybe not. The Magical Creatures Academy only accepts supernaturals, and she’s been invited to the school, but she has none of the powers she’s supposed to. Blip. Nada. Not even a spark. The school hasn’t made a mistake in a century, but she might be the first one. That’s just the kind of thing that would happen to her. Especially since no one has any idea what kind of creature she’ll be … assuming her powers ever decide to make an appearance. The Academy is the leading institution for paranormal creatures in the world. Its students are the finest of shifters, vampires, and fae. Speaking of fine fae … Leander Verion, prince of the elves, is off limits. Not only is he arrogant, stubborn, and totally not her style, he’s her brother’s best friend. She will not fall for him. No way. Besides, he’s not interested … is he? When two men who head the Shifter Alliance, a rebel faction of shapeshifters who seek to escape the control of the Enforcers—the supernatural police force—find out about Rina and her potential for a different kind of magic, they hunt her. For them, the stakes are as personal as they get. Whether she’s ready or not, Rina is about to find out what she’s made of…

Title: Shadow Touched(The Veil Keeper #1)
Author: Harper Wylde
Pages:289
Rating:⭐⭐⭐⭐(4/5)
Synopsis: My name is Lorn, and I’m a witch. Or at least, I thought I was. Turns out, things aren’t always what they seem. My magic has always been different from others of my kind—untamed. Something to hide, even in my own world, along with my monster-filled dreams and odd ‘episodes.’ When my entire life is turned upside down with a single drop of blood, the mysterious magick I’ve been trying to hide finally catches up to me. Deserted and stranded on my own, four strangers offer me asylum and a place to call home. At least, for now. With the help of Dason, Chayton, Axel, and Kota, I’m discovering the truth about myself as my past and my future collide. The world I grew up in was a lie, and now I’m learning how to use my magick, who my enemies are, and that the beasts stalking my sleep are actually real. And they’re my problem. Surrounded by deadly threats, the guys and I navigate a world full of supernatural creatures, each with their own agendas, to gather the intel we need to defeat the darkness. Hopefully for good. There’s danger in the shadows, but I’ll be dead before I let it win. And I’m just getting started.
First And Last Sentence: Here
Every Time a Spice Scene Occurs and I Have Nothing to Focus on at Work:
Listening to Touch of Darkness at Work and the *Intimate* Scenes Start
Mr Darcy: “My future wife must be elegant and articulate and demuring and beautiful and intelligent and respectful of her station and have the perfect countance for being the lady of the house and be an accomplished woman and-”
Lizzie: *stumbles in wearing mud-covered boots, marches over, and insults him straight to his face*
Mr Darcy: “Never mind, I want that one”
its always "youre cute" and never "you have betwitched me body and soul and i love, love, love you."
The New York enclave: We have created a great mal-slaying hero!
El: You ruined a perfectly good teenage boy is what you did. Look at him, he’s got a martyr complex.
"I could fix him" girl you tried and he dropped off into the void to try and kill a giant unkillable monster
Orion really said ‘gf material’
It just occurred to me —and I find this absolutely hilarious— that both times Chloe straight-up delivered key series plot-points, El immediately just assumes she’s full of shit and has no idea what she’s saying, just to then be proven dramatically wrong.
Chloe: Orion only cared about killing mals… until you. El: That’s clearly bullshit >( Orion: I only cared about killing mals… until you :)
Chloe: The school doesn’t have it out for you, it was made to protect students and can’t go against that El: That’s clearly bullshit >( The School: I don’t have it out for you, I was made to protect students and can’t go against that
So I realize a lot of people reading Naomi Novik's Scholomance series may not be New Yorkers, and therefore may not get why the two sentinels of graduation-death are named Patience and Fortitude. But for your context, Patience and Fortitude are the lions outside of the New York Public Library main branch. Does this mean something other than 'Naomi Novik is from New York'? I have no idea. But can I imagine El's very angry inner monologue when she encounters the originals, helpfully named for 'the qualities New Yorkers would need to survive the economic depression'? Yes, absolutely.
