Fighting the good fight occasional weeknights I was gonna bike to the demonstration but it was windy and I was high It’s time I go sticking my neck out, I’ve been jonesin’ for a letdown It’s been boiler-plate insane the last few days, and unless something escalates We might forget this hasn’t become normal yet
Slept through the silence, woke to plundering and pirates Swashbuckling on the Sociopathic Sea It’s about the horizon, so cut the fucking whining Start spooking parrots off of shoulders, throwing peg-legs over If they’re food for sharks, I guess that’s just the markets’ arc
There’s something viscous in the water There’s something bitter in the air Can you spare a second for the crumbling infrastructure of a future where We can go back to when you didn’t have to care
Sorting through landfills, a hazy day on pain pills Still, the wingspan of the wasteland is clear to me Vast and affixed in a finalizing friction The heat rises into shimmering steam and makes a vaguely threatening speech It says “Not today, I think you’d better find another way”
If you weren’t told, how could you know? I mean you’ve had your hands full So you don’t have a handle On finding fire where there’s smoke
But there’s something humbling in the hatred Maybe there’s human after all? Can you spare a second for a couple quick ideas, we’d love to talk We’re not asking for a lot
Just fewer racist cops and unarmed black teenagers shot You don’t even have to stop, but not quite so many spray paint swastikas And it’s really just a thought but if you cut back on bomb threats sent to synagogues And setting fire to mosques You might find that you’re not
You’re not above, you’re down here with the rest of us Your manufactured mandate Is really self-hate Hey buddy join the club
