A Fond Farewell to my class of 2011 - a goodbye musical style!

The Countdown continues....

A huge congratulations to you all on the superb production of our end of year show. I really was so incredibly proud of each one of you - even with our backdrop beginning to collapse - the show continued - a true sign of the professionalism you all brought to today's performance.

If AM ever decides to take up Limbo as a hobby I'd recommend she goes for a product like this - it's safe, unbreakable, inflatable - in case she ever feels like head butting one ever again!! Again, the show went on. Comhghairdeas arís!!

Tips for putting on an End of Year Produciton

Know your script. Read, re-read and then read again, and not just your own lines. From this foundation you can go on to identify the reason for your lines, this will help you react with the right lines and make remembering easier.

Listen actively, you should give the impression that what your character is hearing is purely of that moment. Resist the temptation to be quick with your lines, just to prove you know them, it is a conversation after all.

Learn to breath, practice 20 minutes a day. Inhale as deeply as possible and exhale for twice the amount of time you spent inhaling (i.e. inhale 15 seconds exhale 30 seconds). This will help stage fright.

Be professional, you are an actor on stage, you have to 'stay in role' for the duration of the show, if you are a pirate you are a pirate for the entire show - let the audience know it, project your voice with clarity, articulation and strength.

If everyone around you is loosing their heads - keep yours. If you find yourself in a situation where every piece of furniture is being chewed by your fellow cast members, hold your nerve and avoid the melodrama. Your performance will stand out like the calm at the eye of the storm.

Act! The more you act the better you should get. Practice makes perfect after all. You are not to resemble a statue on stage - use your body, your voice, the stage, your body language - be an active member of the production by engaging with the story from the start of the show to the final word.

Improve your acting by making your colleagues look as good as possible. It might sound odd but getting the best from colleagues will reflect on your own performance and help you develop.

The German artist Iris Schieferstein, has worked with dead animals as raw material for her pieces of art for many years. She joins the fragments together to new creatures and thus gives a new face to death.

Her shoe line “Gun Hoofs” is made from horse hooves and guns, hence the name. The guns or pistols are used as heels, and the hooves are hollowed-out with zippers so it’s completely possible to actually wear them. Disturbing for some, fascinating for others. What do you think?

When I came across this artist I have to admit that I was very unimpressed with the subject matter of her work - but then, on reflection, whether I personally like it or not is irrevelant, as art is so subjective. I put up this post to see what it is you think. I think the following quote from Whoopi Goldberg is brilliant!
