Season 2-Noora Saetre

I keep seeing so much hate directed towards Noora’s season and, although this may be an unpopular opinion, I feel like I need to address this. 

Season 2 was not a waste. 

Sexual assault (even the fact that Noora thought she might have been sexually assaulted) is something that needs to be addressed and for young women and men who watched this season, saw Noora take down a disgusting excuse for a man who threatened her with revealing “naked photos,” it was a source of strength. 

I cried so much during that season because watching someone as lovely, intelligent, and admirable as Noora go through something like that, the not knowing, the threat, the pain, made me believe I was strong enough to go through similar situations. 

Seeing the girl squad support her throughout the season was such good representation of women supporting women. 

So, yes, Noorhelm is disappointing because let’s be fucking real, Noora deserves so much better and I cannot wait for her to move on from this and become even stronger in herself. Even her character development could’ve been so much better. But season 2 offered so much more than Noorhelm and telling people to skip season 2 or that it’s garbage or the worst or a complete waste of time is sad. 

It is not the best season, I agree. All I am saying is that it’s worth watching. You never know who could be positively impacted by the strength in that season.

but onto a more serious note, the biggest reason as to why the holy trinity are so important is because, they are all minorities. friendships between minority groups, they can be groundbreaking. monumental. instrumental. historical for building a new wave of change that battle and fight prejudices and stereotypes.

in even, sana and isak, you have 3 people all coming from different minority backgrounds, each having a label that society boxes them in, reduces them down into, minimises and dismisses their struggles. 

in even, there’s representation of a boy so creative and ambitious who dreams of making movies, and has bipolar disorder and is bisexual/pansexual, who is also deeply interested and has willingly studied into islam. in isak, you have a studious science enthusiast, so into his biology and theories of evolution and parallel universes but living in the now, present moment too, and is gay. in sana, you have a young muslim woman of colour, just as studious as isak in her sciences, and very very passionate, and extremely successful, in basketball. 

together, the 3 of them coming and forming one trio, can breakdown discrimination on so many fronts: homophobia, ableism, racism, islamophobia. discriminations that need to be fought against, in the CURRENT world we live in. that, you know what, indeed! a muslim girl can be best friends with 2 boys who are in a relationship with one another! that yes, a boy with bipolar disorder can learn the qur’aan in arabic, and it doesn’t mean it isn’t valid. that yes, a boy that is gay can peacefully be friends with a muslim girl. all these little things sum up to form something so huge, that society can do nothing but talk about it, raise awareness about it, because it cannot be avoided.

why? because these people exist. in very large numbers. mentally ill people exist. muslims exist. lgbt+ people exist. we are EVERYWHERE. and we have finally found something that we can identify to that represents us. of course we are going to talk about it, in the masses, especially when all these minorities intertwine and form such a pure, strong, solid friendship that goes against so much of what society has taught us that, “in fact, these people will never be able to mix peacefully.” 

we exist. we will raise our voices. we will cause hype and make noise about it. and society will have no other option but to accept us and change their mindset.

this friendship is so so so important. so important.

Hey where can i watch season 4 episode 1 ? Can't find it anywhere

Hi! Idk if you knew already, but the show comes out in clips throughout the week, and on friday, all the clips are broadcast on actual tv. the season just started today, so there will be no new full episode until Friday. as for watching the clips, you just have to wait a lil bit cause I'm on vacation right now and my internet is very fickle. but i will have the clips and stuff posted soon. Hope that answered your question!

These are words or terms (both in English and Norwegian) that may clarify things, words that have a language barrier, or cultural differences. Note: some things may be specific to some seasons.

Alt er love - Specific to season 3. Translates to “Everything is love”.

Ass - abbreviation of the word ‘altså’, which is typically added at the end of a sentence, meaning thus, hence, therefore, etc.

Balloon Squad - Specific to season 4, alluded to in season 3. Refers to the five boys, Elias Bakkoush, Yousef Acar, Mikael Øverlie Boukhal, Adam Malik, and Mutasim Tatouti.

Boy Squad - Specific to season 3. refers to a group of characters - Isak, Jonas, Madhi, and Magnus.

The 2 Chrises - Chris B. refers to girl Chris, while Chris P. or Penetrator Chris refers to male Chris.

The Collective / The Flat - The apartment in season 2 that Linn, Eskild, and Noora live in, and (SPOILER) in season three that Linn,Noora, Eskild, and Isak live in. The collective just means it’s a shared apartment.

Digg - In context to person it generally means awesome, cool, good looking or sexy. Could also be used in contexts of food, which would mean yummy or delicious. 

Fy Faen - expression that just means “dammit” or “oh shit”. Usually the subs translate it to “fucking hell” but it’s not really quite that crude.

Girl Squad - refers to a group of characters - Eva Kviig Mohn , Noora Sætre, Sana Bakkoush, Vilde Lien Hellerud , and Chris Berg.

Halla - “Hello”

Hei - “Hi” pronounced almost exactly the same

Hooke - came from the English slang of “hooking up”. In English, it typically means sex, but in Norway it usually means making out or heavy foreplay.

Hva skjer - “Whats’s Up”

Jeg elsker deg - “I love you”

Kjæreste - a gender less term for boyfriend/girlfriend. Directly translates to “dearest”.  Not specific to any season, but the genderless part is important in season 3 when (SPOILER) Isak is texting his parents and says “I have a Kjæreste. His name is Even. That’s a boy’s name. The reason he specifies that it is a boy is because it is a gender less term.

Kollektive / Kollektivet -  The apartment in season 2 that Linn, Eskild, and Noora live in, and (SPOILER) in season three that Linn,Noora, Eskild, and Isak live in. The collective just means it’s a shared apartment.

Kos  / Kose / Kosegruppa -  Specific to season 3. Kos / Kose directly translates to ‘snuggles’, but is kind of untranslatable. It means the overall feeling of warmth and coziness you get with friends. 

Russefeiring - also referred to as “Russ”. a Norwegian high school celebration in which students in their third year and second semester party really hard. Public drunkenness is usually associated with this tradition. It usually spans from late April  and ends in mid May the same day as Norwegian Constitution Day. Usually if they are not in school, they are partying on their buss.  A lot of times, kids wear corresponding clothes or colored overalls. Their friend groups get together and rent or purchase bus or a car. 

Serr - shortened version of the word ‘seriøst’, which means seriously.

Takk - “Thank You”

Unnskyld - “Sorry”

So basically, everything revolves around this masterpost. The masterpost links you to literally everything I have put together. 

Once you click on the link to a season, you will be directed to a submasterpost, specific to that season. It is divided into episodes, and the order of when things happen is the same order in which the links are posted to each individual SKAM clip or text. 

Each individual post will have a caption underneath it, indicating information about the post. For example...

Season 1 - Indicates the season

Episode 4 - indicates the episodes, which are broken up by the week. 

Post 12 - indicates that this is the 12th post chronologically from this episode.

Clip: “Bet Bus”  - Tells what kind of post it is; a clip, texts, or Instagram post.

I’m new to SKAM. Help! ~SubPost

Click here to return to the main masterpost. So, a little bit about SKAM. SKAM is a Norwegian teen drama. SKAM translates to SHAME in English.

The show is unique in many ways, one of which is that it is social media and internet based. 

On the official SKAM website (Link here), clips, texts between the characters, and even Instagram posts from the profiles of the characters are posted to the website.  Unfortunately, if you don’t live in Norway, you can no longer view the clips. NRK (the channel that broadcasts SKAM) has set up a geofence around the website, and from what we understand, it has something to so with music copyright. But, luckily, there are people that take it upon themselves to translate every clip, text, and social media post into English. I’ve put them all in order, and in one place for anyone to use. 

Also, it is set in real time. For example, if, in the show, 2 characters have a conversation that takes place at 7:23 am on Monday, October 23rd, then a clip of the characters talking will be uploaded to the official website on Monday, October 23rd, at exactly 7:23 am (Norway time - Here is a link to a time zone converter). 

These things make the show so unique, as well as provide a noteworthy feel of immersion. And, to top it all off, each season centers around a different main character. A scene never takes place without the main there, because everything you see is in the perspective of the main. The limited perspective of the show offers something really special.

So, I’ve started blogs and posts to help you navigate through this show. To see how the posts are set up, return to the main masterpost to see vocabulary you might want to know, and cultural things that might make everything make a little more sense.

I suggest following the order of the masterpost if you want to get a full expeirience, following the getting started to how the posts are set up to the vocab, or you could just jump right in to season 1 episode 1, like I did.
