Your man on the road, he doing promo
You said keep our business on the low-low
I’m just tryna get you out the friend zone
“Is he gone?” Derek’s muffled voice spoke through the speaker. “Yeah, he just left.” I watched as my fiancée’s car disappeared down the road for his week-long business trip. “Perfect timing.”
A moment later Derek was knocking on my front door and I ran for it, immediately pulling me into a kiss when he saw me.
I kissed back, a smile apparent on my lips as his hands wrapped tightly around my waist and pulled me flat against his body. I could practically taste the familiar bitterness of weed on his tongue. When I met Desmond I had to give up doing most of the things I loved to do— getting high, drinking, partying, staying out late. I was still young but my parents were certain on me finding a man I had to calm down for. My parents loved Garrett, my whole family did. I did too, just not to the point where I was eager to marry or settle down with. I hated not being a regular 22 year old girl.
Derek hauled me off the ground and I locked my legs around his hips and he sandwiched me between the wall and his body. His tongue traced my jaw and down to the crook of my neck, “Derek…” I sighed in content as I allowed him to mark my skin with his gentle touch.
He knew exactly where to touch me and how to get me to melt, even if I wasn’t in the mood to have sex. I always did.
I fisted balls of his shirt in my hands and he took it as a sign to pull me away from the wall and carry me to the bedroom.
‘Cause you look even better than the photos
I can’t find your house, send me the info
Driving through the gated residential
Found out I was coming, sent your friends home
Keep on tryna hide it but your friends know
“Where’d you say you moved again?” Derek questioned. “Oh… The Hills.” I answered, a little unsure. Garrett was suspicious of me considering last time Derek and I were together I’d almost been caught. He came home early from work one day and Derek hid in the closet while Garrett and I argued about trust but in the end I’d gotten away with it. Ever since then Garrett had been eager to get away from our old house and move to a new one.
“That’s not really a specific answer. There are tons of houses of up there.”
I sighed and held the phone a little more up to display my face better, “Maybe we should stop. Maybe this is wrong.”
I pursed my lips together and I could hear light laughing from the living room, “Who’s there?”
“Just some girlfriends of mine.”
“Oh, well I’m gonna to come over. See you in a bit.” And with that Derek hung up.
I got up quickly and couldn’t deny the excitement bubbling in my chest. It’d been over four weeks since I’d seen Derek.
“Guys can we post-pone this sleep-over? I forgot I had some of Garretts family coming through for a bit today.”
They giggled and shook their heads, “Quit lying. I know when you’re seeing someone. So… Who is it?” Y/B/F/N teased, causing me to blush. “I’m not saying anyone.” I defended rather quickly.
She scoffed, “Is it Derek? You’ve been seeing him since we were teenagers.”
I pleaded, “Don’t rat me out. I don’t love Garrett like I love Derek.”
“Of course we won’t!” They all agreed and I sighed in relief. “But does he love you too?”
A question I’d thought about so many times before but I shrugged, “I don’t actually know.”
I felt my phone buzz and I looked at the message sent by Derek:
I’m almost there tell your friends to leave
“Okay guys time to go.” I rushed them out of the door and they giggled in response, “Best wishes!”
As they piled into one car and drove away Derek pulled up. He smoothly leaned against his car door and I ran up to him. He pulled me into a hard kiss I’ll never get used to and rested his hands on my butt as he leaned in further and let his tongue trace my bottom lip. My arms extended around his neck and I leaned further into his embrace.
Deciding oxygen was necessary I pulled away and pulled him inside and as soon as I shut the door my shirt was off and my jeans were unbuttoned and unzipped. I giggled before pulling him to the couch.
I only call you when it’s half past five.
The only time that I’d ever call you mine
I only love it when you touch me, not feel me
When I’m fucked up, that’s the real me
Hearing my phone vibrate I quickly reached for it, trying not to disturb Garrett sleeping beside me. “Hello?” My voice was super raspy, possibly because of the argument Garrett and I had earlier that day involved a lot of screaming.
“Y/n…” Derek slurred and laughed shortly after, “Your name is cute.”
“Are you drunk or high?” I whispered.
“Both? I miss you. Come here.”
“Okay great! See you in 20!”
The line went dead and I sighed as I sat up and checked the time. 5:30.
“Derek open up!” I banged on his door for what seemed like the millionth time. “Fucking Christ.” I grumbled and turned around. I was getting in my car when Derek’s door opened and he stumbled out. “Wait! Where you going?”
“Home.” I snapped. “No you aren’t.” He chuckled and stepped back and waited. I sat in my car and rolled my eyes as I forced my own body out of the car and stomped past Derek. “Alright Derek let’s get this over with,” I said and turned around after we’d made it inside and wrapped my arms around his neck. He pecked my lips and the simple gesture erupted butterflies in the pit of my stomach and I could also taste the liquor and pot on his mouth. “No baby girl, no sex tonight. I just wanna lay down with you.” He staggered up to his room and pulled me along, “Just cuddles.”
He slipped under the covers and I watched him with a confused gaze.
“What?” He said, opening his tired and high eyes, “What’s wrong?”
I shook my head and crawled into the space next to him. He pulled my back against his chest and nestled his head in my hair.
“I wish we did this more…” He mumbled, already dozing off.
I just fucked two bitches 'fore I saw you
You gon’ have to do it at my tempo
“You smell like perfume.” I snapped as I pushed the boy in front of me off. He scoffed, “You’re crazy just come on.” He says as he pulls me by my hand back into his chest. “No, Derek. I can’t do this anymore. Garrett is so good to me and you’re not. He doesn’t deserve this. If he ever found out he’d be broken.”
“What the fuck, Y/n. We’ve been doing this for years. What’s different now?”
“What’s different? You keep telling me that no one else has been here but,” I stomped over towards the door and pointed towards a pair of glossy black stiletto stages, “These aren’t mine. That perfume isn’t mine. This isn’t like when we were teenagers, Derek. We were together then.”
“So you’re tellin me that you want to stop seeing each other? You’re tellin me that you’re goin back some guy you don’t even love?”
“I do love him.” My voice was shaky and we both knew I was lying. “You don’t see it as ‘seeing each other’. You go around fucking any girl that you want then call me when there’s no one else.”
“That’s not true. If I didn’t see it as that then I wouldn’t call it that. You have some guy to fuck on the side and I got a bitch. It’s fair.” He growled, grinding his teeth and balling his fist. “We don’t love each other Derek so who cares? Let’s just stop and remain friends before something happens or we get caught.”
“So you’re going to waste your life away and enter a loveless marriage. When’s the last time you partied? Got high? Drank so much you got drunk off your ass? You gave up things you love. You’re giving up on me. You make me happy.”
“Garrett calls it compromising.”
“Garrett is full of shit.” Derek scoffed and turned away from me and quickly paced back in forth in front of me.
“So I can only see you? You get to fuck whoever you want and I have to wait for a phone call or a text?”
He finally stopped pacing and stepped so close in front of me I could feel his body weight, “You’re in love with me, Y/n. I know you are.”
I could feel the tears start to well up in my eyes and I looked down at my shoes, “But I’m married to someone else now.”
He shook his head and looked up at the ceiling like Jesus was up there talking to him and he laughed, “You’re not married yet.”
He pulled my face to his and smashed his lips against mine. I was taken by surprise but soon felt myself kissing back and I knew I’d never be able to Leave Derek Luh. Not any time soon.
Always tryna send me off to rehab
Drugs start to feeling like it’s decaf
I’m just tryna live life for the moment
And all these motherfuckers want a real love
“Hey,” I said as I sat up and pulled a sheet around my bare chest. “Maybe you should slow down a little bit.” I wrapped my arms around his waist, pressed my chest against his back, and set my chin on his shoulder.
“Or not.” Derek mumbled as he placed his sixth blunt of the night between his lips.
“I’m starting to get worried about you…”
“Don’t be. Want some? Been a while since we fucked while were both high.”
I winced at his words and shook my head, “No thanks.” Shrugging, he took a long drag and blew the smoke around his room. “I need a pretty large amount of weed to actually feel high these days.”
“It’s because you do it so much that you’ve become numb to the feeling. You’re not sensitive to the euphoria anymore. That’s what scares me…”
“Who cares? So I smoke weed? It’s not like I do hardcore drugs that’ll kill me when I take them.”
“Not anymore.” I whispered but he heard me and shrugged me off. “Yeah, I used to. But I don’t anymore. I paid my dues now let it go.”
“I have… But the amount of weed you smoke isn’t safe. Maybe you should—”
“Don’t you dare say it,” He interrupted.
“Get help. Maybe you should get help. I’m worried about this.”
He stood up and pulled on his boxers and grey sweats and turned to give me a menacing glare. “Who are you to tell what I can and can’t do?”
“Just what?” He growled. I was almost afraid to say anything so I just shook my head and kept my mouth shut, “Nothing.”
I knew Derek would never hurt a hair on my head but I still didn’t want to upset him anymore than I already have.
“Look,” he sighed and sat next to me and pulled me into his lap, “I know you’re just looking out for me but I know what I’m doing. I know my boundaries.” He pecked my neck, then my cheek, then my lips and I nodded, “I’m just afraid you’ll actually get hurt one day.”
“Promised me then,” I said and held up my pinky finger between us, “Promise me you won’t get hurt. Promise me you’ll not push yourself more than you need to. Promise me you’ll call me night or day if you ever need anything. Promise me.”
He smiled and cupped the back of my neck so he could give me a long and soft kiss while in the process connecting his pinky with mine.
Who are you to judge, who are you to judge?
Hide your lies, girl, hide your lies
Only you to trust, only you…
I studied the engagement ring and silver wedding band on my finger with a smile across my features. The engagement ring was simple, but I preferred simple. “Babe,” Derek’s raspy morning voice chimed as he pulled me further into his chest, “Why’re you up so early?”
He was looking down at me with his eyes closed and I leaned up to peck his lips. “I’m just thinking.”
“What about?” He was still half asleep but I found it extremely adorable that he was still trying to make conversation with me.
Now his eyes were open. He laced his fingers through mine and tiredly smiled down at me. Derek’s rap career had taken off without a hitch. Being longtime friends with Jack and Jack, Skate, Dillon (he and Skate are the reason why Derek and I even met when we were teens), Swazz, and everyone apart of that community helped him a little too but his pure talent is what made Derek, Derek Luh.
“Why’s that Mami?” He rolled onto his back and pulled me with him so I was basically laying on top of him. “Because I finally have the man I love.”
Derek’s hand was still laced with mine and his matching silver ring was noticeably bigger than mine. He removed his hands from mine and wrapped his arms tightly around my waist.
“And I finally have the woman I love.”
I relaxed in his grasp and it was mornings like this that I loved the most; when I wake up, fully clothed, in the arms of Derek Luh.
Pulling him to my lips I felt electricity bolt through my body and I knew that there wasn’t a single soul I’d rather be with.
________________________________________________________ Okay, I'm gonna be writing an imagine explaining how Derek and Y/n ended up together in the end. Stay tuned!
