“Don’t you think this is a little bit of an overreaction?”
Employing a great deal of concentration, and with the an obvious effort to forget how uncomfortable she felt simply sitting, she kept her face calmly composed. Such calmness seemed quite the antithesis to the stormy, flustered brat he could sense stirring with force just under the surface of her composure, anxious to get out and throw a fit.
“No,” he replied calmly. “I’m pretty sure this is exactly the reaction you were expecting. It’s certainly nothing less than what the situation deserved.”
Fidgeting with the hem of her skirt, she tried again. “But really, don’t you think this is just a tad more than the ‘situation’”—she air quoted—“warranted? It’s just…” Her fingers clenched the hem tightly in her fist, the careful composure she had tried to maintain slipping on a flustered whine. “It’s so big,” she finished.
He smiled condescendingly at her. “Sweetie, little girls who have accidents just need a little help staying dry,” he explained slowly. “There’s nothing wrong with that. I don’t mind putting you in a diaper.”
“But I’m not a little girl! I don’t have accidents!” Her protests were so adorable. Especially the way her lips quivered.
“Well,” he replied carefully, “if you don’t have accidents, does that mean you wet yourself on purpose? Because I’m pretty sure we can both agree that wasn’t soda on your shorts we just put in the washing machine.”
“It wasn’t on purpose!” She caught herself too late. He could see the cogs turning as she suddenly tried to figure out if she’d lost some advantage, said too much. Was it worse to admit she’d done it on purpose or that she’d had an accident? If possible, she looked even more distressed at her hasty confession than she did before, but he was willing to admit it was probably very difficult—very embarrassing—for her to admit she was just a very little girl in need of diapers.
“It wasn’t on purpose? So it was an accident then,” he concluded helpfully. “So, see? Putting you in a thick diaper wasn’t an overreaction. I’d be willing to bet that it even excites you.”
“No,” she whined unconvincingly.
“Well, I’ll be sure to check for myself when I change your diaper.”
She sighed in resignation, mumbling grumpily, “It was just one accident.”
He gave her diaper a few little pats. “I know,” he answered cheerfully.
