and here we talk|| Nate&Alexis
How was it possible for her to be this nervous? Next to Juni, Nate was her best friend, she’d shared so much of her life with him, he was the first boy she’d ever really loved. Even still, she dropped everything when he asked to meet her. Desperate for any interaction with him, hoping one day to be able to understand why he pushed her away. Maybe that was why her heart was beating out far faster than she liked to admit.
It was almost pathetic how quickly she got to the Beleaf Cafe, she wished he would’ve been sitting there waiting for her. It wouldn’t have given her the time to have a mental freak out as she sat tapping her foot against the table. She raked her brain to find some reason why he’d want to talk to her, they had a few overlapping friends which it could concern. Since breaking up the two of them rarely talked about themselves, they almost avoided each other sometimes. Or Alexis avoided him, it was easier that was. She was drawn to him, loved him still like she had the day he pulled away.
In what world would she be able to sit across from Nate and have a normal conversation if it was about them? It couldn’t be about them, they avoided it. Attempted to act like they’d always been friends and nothing more. Yes, their interactions were awkward and forced sometimes, but it worked. Or well - it didn’t. Alexis always walked away feeling more confused and still none the less in love with Nate.
Giving a sigh Alexis leaned back in her chair, she wasn’t leaving, she couldn’t. She agreed to meet him, to talk - about whatever it was he wanted to talk about. He could want to talk about the stuff going on around town for all she knew. She’d have to deal with whatever the conversation was.
It was time. After everything they’d been through in the last few months, he owed it to her to have a real conversation. He wanted to protect her, to keep her safe from himself, but at the end of the day there was nowhere safe in Oak Pines anymore. He had no idea where they stood, what she felt for him now, but he had to be honest.
The texts had been short, he’d sat fretting over them for hours trying to pick the right words but there were none. The fact that she’d agreed to have coffee was a surprise but he couldn’t help being stupidly happy that she had. Heading in to town, he figured he’d be the first there but she was sat at a table waiting. Pushing the door to Beleaf open, he waved to her before swinging by the counter to grab a coffee.
He was nervous, undoubtedly, but this had to be done. Taking his cup from the barista, he walked towards her table, trying and failing to meet her gaze. “Lex.” He murmured by way of greeting, pulling out the chair opposite. “Thanks...for coming.”
