Christmas 2020
I inherited this Hallmarky holiday tableau from Mom. She was a person for whom there simply was no such thing as excessive Christmas decorating. I put this little scene on the desk in our entry. A late afternoon sun casts unseasonal dark dramatic shadows across it. Merry Christmas 2020. Â

Bikes
Motorcycles are mobile sculptures (as opposed to sculptures that are mobiles). I don’t ride. But I know people who do. I did this double bike portrait for my step-son—who is also my mechanic.

Congaree
Congaree National Park protects the largest remaining tract of old-growth bottomland hardwood forest in North America. – National Park Guide
Moss on the trunk of a water tupelo indicates the water level of previous floods.
“Knees” of bald cypress grow up from the roots throughout the forest floor. Their function is not entirely understood, but seem to offer structural support during floods…

Bound & Determined, 24″ x 24″. acrylic on plywood., crochet thread

Mom chair
This is my mom’s old rocking chair. She rocked all her babies in it. And then, in the 70s, she had it reupholstered with a pattern we disagreed on. But it was her chair. And then she rocked her grand babies and eventually great grand babies in it. It sits in my studio because it’s still a damn comfortable chair. But I still disagree with the pattern.
Here’s an old photo of the original chair with…

Seeing… Spending more time at home these days, I'm seeing more home. I don't mean I'm seeing things I didn't see before.
Apple Among the many useless things I have in my studio/storage room is this 1999 16" Apple Studio Display. It probably works, but who cares?

Horse Farm
My wife says one of the most peaceful sounds you can hear is a horse munching hay. That’s true. But it’s not simple. First, you have to get close enough to an animal that outweighs you by a thousand pounds to hear him munch. It’s not a loud sound. Most importantly, that large animal has to trust you enough to let you get close to him. Horses are smart. He knows you probably eat meat. And he knows…
