Native copper Reminiscent of some piece of Harkonnen statuary designed by the late H.R. Giger, a spray of copper crystals has been precipitated from the hot briny fluids that spat out of a cooling granite in what is known as a copper porphyry deposit. It usually precipitates as mixed sulphides that are then altered to secondary minerals such as malachite by later interactions with groundwater. The specimen in the photo measures 6x3x2.5cm.
