Slay The Tourney: Princess Battle Royale

Welcome, one and all, for the Princess battle of the century! Instead of Slaying the Princess here, we’ll be making your lovely Princesses (and/or Princes!) ✨slay✨ the stage and showcase everyone’s creations! Whether you’ve got basic recolors or full-blown AUs, crossovers or complex designs, we wanna see them.

How This Works:

🛡️Rounds are determined along the lines of Stranger’s Poem, going through each Vessel individually (Ex: Consumption is first, so Beast will be the first Vessel. Den will follow, before going into Betrayal). Joint Vessels’ rounds are at the end of the section, and can depict either or both variants (Ex: Wounded or Networked Wild, Drowned or Burned Grey, etc) or traits from either/both routes.

🛡️Contestants submit their vessel designs to the applicable Google Form for each tournament, where we’ll permit a min of 12 & a max of 40 designs (open for revision for popular vessels). One design submission per person. You can depict varied forms (ex normal & Stencil PATD), but do mention preference for which is “main.”

Once entries are in, we’ll randomly select participants to go up against each other for typical elimination.

We’ll keep going until there’s a determined winner!

What do you win? A sad feeling :c Jokes aside, this is just like VOT for bragging rights predominantly. But I’m sure you’ll fetch plenty of fanart/propaganda on the road to victory!

Rules:

🩸Cannonical Vessels only. Please submit only the vessel up in the running (you can choose which round to do for combo ladies).

🩸 Crossovers, Stylistic Choices & Abstract Designs are encouraged! Fan chapter continuations are very case-by-case (guide TBD), and all designs must be thematically recognizable.

🩸Designs must be owned by you, or submitted w permission.

🩸We are beginner friendly! If you’re having trouble, feel free to contact Design Helpers to get your ladies live. (Note: we’ll need at minimum a detailed description & a sloppy sketch.)

🩸Despite being set up in a Tumblr Sexyman style, this is more focused on design aesthetics & personal lore than hotness factor. Who they are, what they do, their relationships, if they’re in or out of construct, etc.

🩸No NSFW. Pretty outfits, flirty posing and mild dirty jokes ok, but anything overtly sexual/suggestive is not. Unfortunately, this also covers nonsexual nudity for safety/ease of moderation purposes.

🩸Assignment is random! [With the exception of option to be put in a bracket with other newcomers] If you are uncomfortable with a certain member, let staff know and we’ll try our best not to pair you. But do know as competition tapers, face-off may still be inevitable.

🩸We WANT to see your gender non-conforming & disabled designs! Just please be mindful of how you portray them. Ask Mod Sapphic (@sapphic-slaylist) if you have questions or concerns, and she’ll steer you towards the proper resources.

🩸No Proshippers. Former/recovered are fine, but no active ones (this is a personal boundary on Sapphic’s end and will not change).

Hey, so When is the next contest?

While we do not have exact dates I can tell you that the Hunted tournament will run after our sister tourney, @slay-the-tourney, and their Den tournament. They have officially stated in ask response that they plan for the Den tournament to start after @princessappreciationweek (Aug 23-29).

Then by making a few assumptions, such as a similar amount of participants as the Beast round, the Princess Tournament would end somewhere in late September/early October. So roughly mid October would be where we pick up with our own submissions opening.

Do remember this is an estimation and nothing definitive as running a tournament has a lot of moving parts in order to get running and delays can occur because of it.

Once we have a more definitive date, we will be sure to notify everyone in advance when submissions will open and we hope to see everyone then.

Openings In Mod & Creative Team

Hey hey! With the new tournament coming up in the next month, I wanted to let people know that we’ll be looking into adding some new people onto staff, be it for creating assets for the tournament or moderating the back-end of the blog. Do note that unless you are on moderation team, you may still contribute a design! So don’t let that discourage you from applying!

Creative Team helps with things like banners, backdrops, props, and any design assistance that contestants may need! You can specify if you’re best at any of these in particular; we may have some of these bases already covered!

Mods are active blog co-owners who assist with Answering asks, directing participant feedback, helping set up rounds, and adding in the little quips and sonas for personalized flair. You’ll also be there to help assist with any HR matters which may arise. We are looking for folks who are open to being active during tourney runs, and will be selective with applications.

There is no set application form, but if you are interested in applying, send a message to @sapphic-slaylist with the following:

- Creative: Send work examples, expertise (backgrounds, props, etc), and duration needed to complete pieces. Limitations (Ex: blood ok, not comfortable with Fury’s unwinding) will also help us gauge which rounds we can work with you on.

- Moderator: Tell us your past history with moderation (can include Discord, Ask Blogs, etc), the fandom, etc, and what you hope to contribute. Do note that due to the nature of STP and potential fandom discourse, we will be generally looking for older and more experienced moderators over minors. However, we will look over all fairly and see who fits best with current staff!

ArtFight Will Ujhh Exist Maybe For Me

Team Comedy, but I go by a Fuck it We Ball mentality if I like the OCs. Got a good swath of characters but if y’all are looking for STP specifically I’ll have Voicelings & Borrowed Paths up later; Shrew and Alchemist up now (and I think also my Smitten & Hunted). And I’ll be putting up my new Thorn FicHeartSona I’ve been playing around with.

No guaranteed revenges and entering the game late, but! I wanna at least try something if I can. Still recovering from Furality & work tho so it’ll probably be light. I’ll make sure to comment on all art I get ✨

Do we have a date for the next contest??? :)

It will likely be after July. Our artists are not prepared at present, and I am on bereavement for my grandparents + winding down from Furality activities (check @furodiversity if any of y’all are curious 👀).

We are thinking that Den’s tournament will be following Artfight and likely @princessappreciationweek , with @voice-of-the-sexyman following after! So lots of things upcoming!

What exactly is the limit for straying off of in-game design? Because I have a specific idea in mind for Dragon, and let's just say she's a bit far off, so I'm curious because I'm hoping it's not so far that she'd be disqualified.

The main thing we’re looking for is if the designs are thematically aligned with cannon much more than if the design is a 1:1 with cannon (in fact, we embrace going nuts with it!). Similar to how the Voices over on VOT are all a variety of different birds/humans/creatures, we expect and encourage the designs to have as much variation as desired.

If it helps gauge for you, this was one of the designs for Beast last round which went the abstract route (banger design by @beewithapen):

So there’s a lot you can do with design elements! The rules for “thematically recognizable” are only in place because we had several people trying to slip in Fan Princesses/OCs/Characters which were not based on the cannonical Princesses themselves, nor reflective of continuing their chapters. And of course, if you have any questions on specifics you’re welcome to submit to mods and have us confirm!

Are you guys pitting the final results of each individual Princess tourney together in a final tournament at the end to compare how the diffferent princesses and their new designs match up

Because that would be fun

We are not! Bias would definitely take place based on which Princess would come out on top, and that would become much more of a popularity poll of which Princess is more favored opposed to which designs people are pulled towards. It would kinda defeat the purpose of the tourney ^^

However, we might place all the winners together poster-style to see how the community’s take differs from Abby’s!

Can't remember if this is listed in the rules or if it's been answered before so please forgive me if it is, but are already-existing fan designs allowed to be submitted or do you have to make a new design specifically for the tourney?

Do you mean if you have to make a Princess for the tourney specifically? No! I expect that people will be using their versions of the lovely ladies from various AUs, be it modern, alternate fantasy, or traditional cannonical divergence. So long as the designs aren’t sexually overt and resemble the current Princess in design or theming they’re a-ok!

Hey! Sorry if this doesn't really count as a tourney question - I'm the mod of Princess Appreciation week (event that was in August last year), and I wanted to check with the mods of the voice & princess tourneys before deciding on when to hold it this year. I was thinking of mid-to-late August, but is there any time that might work better for you?

I’m actually thinking if you wanted to do it sometime in early June, that’d work just fine? Either that or August yaya! I’m trying to plan accordingly for some family travel + a con I’m attending (Sapphic softly drops that she’s hoping to vend at VRChat con Furality if her application gets accepted) as well as ArtFight in July, so the first two weeks of June will probably have some free time between both events!

Also if anyone wants to check out said project I’m gonna just soft drop @furodiversity hhhhh. It’s disability pride stuff w these lil guys & more and yes this’ll be the only time I talk about that here hsjsjsks

Okay, now I’m wondering, with VOT starting up again with another round, will Den’s tourney be placed after that? Sort of alternate between the two and give both equal chance to shine? Of course STT will last longer on account of there being more princesses, but for now is that the plan?

Are renditions from AUs that mesh with other fandoms allowed? Just asking bc I have a couple and idk if that would be allowed...

We’ve had a good handful of crossover ones, yes! That’s totally fine so long as they’re distinguishable as inspired off the rounds’ designated Princess in themes/design etc.

By the way, do we have a set date for when sign-ups for Den's tourney will start? I want to snatch up a spot as soon as possible, and I already have a cool design idea in mind!!

Hold your horses haha! We still have to let VOT run its course, so we’re looking more like June at present. We may let VOT do an additional round in the interim because I’m gonna be away for a good portion of that month, and then ArtFight proceeding in July. But I promise as soon as we have more info I’ll let everyone know!
