Rain poured down from the sky, no signs of stopping or slowing down anytime soon. The street lights reflecting softly off of the puddles in the empty street. It was almost three in the morning, and even in a city it seemed as if the life of it practically died around then. It was serene, nobody else out on the streets, it was silent aside from the rhythmic patter of rain hitting pavement and the occasional metal of a car roof.
He walked down the street, hoodie pulled over his head covering his face for the most part, looking down at the ground. He walked over to a phone booth on the corner right in front of a convenience store and shut the case door behind himself before dialing in a number. The dialing tone sounded for a few moments before the tell tale sound of someone answering, a click, sounded.
“Agent Checking in,” He said softly into the phone, leaning back resting on the glass wall of the case.
“Code name?”
“The Red Hood.”
“Confirmed.” There was a pause for a few moments, the silence stretching on. “You’ve been given a new assignment.”
“Details?”
“Gotham, all other details are confidential. You’ll receive a package in the mail in the morning, there will be a key in it for a safety deposit box. Inside the box will be all the details you need for the assignment along with a new identity. Good night Hood.”
“Night…” Jason sighed, hanging up the phone on the hook, resting his head against the glass above the phone. He couldn't protest the assignment… that just wasn’t how this worked, but the agency should have known how he felt about going back to Gotham, about the dangers of it. They knew that the moment he stepped into that city his cover could be blown, that he could be killed.

Jason walked down the street, hood pulled over his head, rain pittering against his leather jacket. He went over to a phone booth on the corner of the street in front of a convenience store. The store’s lights off, long since closed for the night though the phone box was lit up. He stepped inside, shutting the door behind himself before dialing in a number. The dialing tone sounded for a few moments before the tell tale sound of someone answering, a click, sounded.
Jason rested his head against the cool glass wall of the box, holding the phone loosely to his ear. “Red Hood, checking in,” Jason greeted quietly.
“Confirmed, transferring,” a monotone voice responded.
There was another click before a new voice spoke.
“Good Evening Hood, you’ve been given a new assignment.”
“Details?” he asked sighing a bit.
“Long-term, undercover, Gotham City. Mission details are sensitive, and can’t be discussed over a phone line, even an encrypted one. All additional mission information will be sent in a secure package. The package will have all the details you need on your assignment, identity, and cover.”
“Gotham?”
“Yes Hood, the agency understands your reluctance but believes you’re the best fit. Good luck and good night, we’ll be cutting down to check ins every month to avoid suspicion.”
“Thank you, and of course, good night.” Jason practically slammed the phone back on its receiver.
