Final Reflective Statement

It has become the last term in my year of foundation in London College of Fashion. Throughout the whole term two and three, I can definitely say that I have got to learn many skills, moods of the school, how to work on my projects, and the introduction to fashion. For being honest I wasn't really sure about how this course would affect my fashion career, however, it changed my perspective of fashion, making me change to media rather than design, and also I got to know how the school runs and how the whole process of this university works as well.

At the start of term 2, I have got really interested in the styling and production course, however at the end of the term 2 I have changed my perspective, changing the course I would prefer, which is the creative direction. The reason I got to change my perspective was that I really like to style someone, however, if I don't get to choose the concept or the mood of the photo shoot, I would rather choose the concept and the mood of the photo shoots. So I was focusing on styling on term 2 so I got marked on styling and production for the mini portfolio that we had to turn in, but for term 3 I have decided to change the way of my work focusing more on the concept and the mood of the final shoot.

After finishing the whole photo shoot, I feel like it was a good choice to change my mind, I had great experience through making the whole process, choosing the theme of the whole project, going out and doing research, making the whole concept and mood boards, and getting my models and photographers for the final shoot. I feel like I have chosen the right pathway for my career in fashion.

Through the whole process, I have got to think about myself, thinking about my strength and weaknesses. For the strengths I think that I am a fast learner, making me a student that has the possibility for the future, and this advantage that I have could not be earned easily, I can get smudged into every situation that I face, which makes me think that this strength of myself has a great advantage. For the creative and direction course, I could use this strength to learn how to make a better concept and mood board, and even use these skills to learn the concept of my course and learn what I have to do. For the weakness that I think that I have would be time management. It is a skill that is really required in life, and this affects my studies. However this weakness could be fixed, and I can feel that I have been improving on managing my time. I think that the reason why I had this weakness was that it was my first year living alone by myself, which made me a hard time in the beginning, but after I got used to living alone and going to universities I think that in the next year I would definitely not have a problem managing my own time.

Starting something new is always tough it gives struggles and problems. But, I feel like the past year in the foundation it was a pleasure to learn, it gave me a good introduction how London College of fashion studies and learning the whole concept, at this stage I could definitely think that it is a good course to have as when you start to learn fashion. I hope my career continues in London College of Fashion, proceeding my own ideas through fashion, and learning more about fashion.

CLEE-2017 SPRING/SUMMER

Who we are:

For the whole brand and the concept the name “CLEE” who is the founder of this brand. We have tried to give a calm brand having a name as the brand name, which made us that that it is more familiar to the audience.

We usually make clothes related to street/sport wear style brand. It is casual brand, which deals with great quality and style.

What project:

This is a project that is handling a theme with street/sport style wear brand. The design comes from the whole movement and the whole energy that we can earn from the people. We deconstruct them and make them into a form of design, and then we get to plan the concept and the mood, then finally styling and shooting the shoot for our brand.

How we made it:

The main concept of the whole theme of this project is “movement”. This has several possibilities about how to produce the design, style, mood, and concept. We have been interested into the skaters making the concept and the mood from when they jump around, giving them details out when they do the shoot. Every person has a different movement that they produce that was the reason why there are so several styles and moods in our work. We have also developed our mood from every moment that we live our life; moreover we have deconstructed the whole theme, concept, and mood for this project. We have continuously destroying it to parts and reconstructing them to a new piece making a whole new different mood about the whole project. Which means that we have approached the whole project a different perspective. In this project we mainly approached to get the feel of the mood of calm and at same time trying to show movements. This part of deconstruction is the most part we have worked on, making us available to make variety of styles, mood, and concepts.

Rationale

The project that I have chosen to do is about movement. The reason why I have chosen this concept is that it gives several ideas and I can develop the movements of people, clothing, how it is in air, how shapes in slow motion, etc. I can develop the movements in the variety of ways because I have several choices in the research that I have done, which means that I would have more choices over developing the images as well. The way to do primary research would be actually everywhere and every moment, because movement exists every part of our life. This research could happen when I walk, when I wake up, when I sit down, when I look at cars going through, and even when I go out, because of these kinds of variety of choices that I can make, this project of movement has an infinite possibility to be produced in any type of way. The effective way to research this project would be doing the research everywhere and every moment, because the more research will become better images that lead to a better outcome in the end. I do not think this concept is original because the word “movement” is just a concept that could be thought easy.

Going into the development part, I thought that I would have to think of the consumer or audience that would watch my final outcome. I first thought that my consumer would be twenty-five years old to forty years old. They would be working in the fashion industry or would be having a job such as a stylist. Their income would be mid-high to high. Their status would have both possibilities of being single, married, and even married. They would probably live inside of the big fashion cities such as Europe, USA, and China, in more details they would live in London or New York. They would have free time going out to drink and meet people, go to museums, go trips to other cities, and sports as well. One time they shop would be around five hundred pounds to two thousand pounds. The place that they would shop would be places like big department stores, such as Harrods. Since they are interested into fashion they would have a variety of brands that they like to shop, and they would usually shop through online, because they would like to go to shopping and relax with their friends and family, or they could even shop by themselves. Their favorite designer would be Demna Gvasalia, and they would read fashion magazines like Vogue and Bazaar.

Throughout the development, I think that the costume would be oversized, because of the development of the photos of movements. The mood would be really calm, because the movement would be enhanced into the costume, which means the editorial work would look like the model just standing still, however, their clothes would be in an oversized or going around, making it look like its moving around. I would express the mood of tiredness or the breathless by using makeup or the hair. Through out that I would like to go to into creative direction I was thinking to make an editorial work through out the development that I have made. I think if I get enough of images, development, mood boards, concept boards, and plans, I would ask the people that I know getting the stylist, photographer, makeup or hair dresser, and the model and make the editorial work. Throughout the process of getting to the final step, there will always be a chance to as the staff or a peer to get the feedback to improve my work, I would just have to ask them to take a look at my work and get to hear what I would need to work on more, what I should change, and what I should keep doing. These kinds of feedbacks are great to listen, because someone else tells you about your project, making the problems editable, and making my own strengths even stronger.

The skills that I am using in this project are the whole concept, technique, and skills that I could use in the media part. The reason that I am using every part is to attract the audience making them feel like my editorial work is the one that is interesting, and for a work that has attention would eventually become the one that gives an issue, which becomes a trend later on. Since I have chosen the two pathways of creative direction and styling I think that showing the full work, attract the audience which will be the interviews, and in a result, they would keep on thinking about my work and this work would support my pathway to creative direction and styling. Throughout this project, I am trying to show that I am able to produce a variety of work with the same old topic, which could also catch the mind of other people, and think that they way I produced is very impressive. As I am in the process of through this project, I have got a feeling that I have a lack of development because currently, I am in the stage of working about developments, it is hard to develop the whole mood, concept, and the picture of the project.

So far, I would say that I am doing a decent job, I have done my research, I kept thinking the shape of the clothes, the whole mood, the concept, and how to attract the audience for the editorial work that I would produce at the end. Throughout what skills that I have been using was every work that I was taught in this course using time management, I start to work effectively and organized, thinking the project, the basic concept, research, mood boards, development, the final outcome, and the presentation. Everything I learned here was so grateful and useful at the same moment. I think that this project would be a good project to show myself, why I would be suitable for the creative direction course in London College of Fashion.
