“ apparently my children don’t wish for me to have decent hygiene. .. i take a shower... ( may have belted beyonce a little too long until my fingers began to prune over... ) and i come out and see both of my girls taking sharpies to the hallway walls... an absolute nightmare to clean. you don’t understand how many mr. clean erasers i will be needing. .. how does one process being upset when their children are clearly proud of their art creativity ?? i think i am internally SCREAMING. ”

“You know well how to distract me don’t you,” Siofra teased as she moved to sit at the table. Anyone who knew her knew she couldn’t say to anything that had chocolate in it or any other sweet ingredient. She reached for a brownie with childish glee.
“Oh I’m fine, most of us are preparing for the easter holidays thats when we see a lot of kids coming in.” Siofra said with a little shrug.
it filled sloan with a mothering joy to take care of others; even in the smallest of ways. such as having her friend indulge in sweets. “ have another. ” dentists CLEARLY wouldn’t be a fan of her dessert pushing. a cavity menace she’d be. though, in her defense, her children ate plenty of succeeding foods on the healthy spectrum.
pouring her dear friend a cup of tea, the blond left the dressings of the beverage to siofra. it’d be however she took it. sloan, however, added a little sugar, a little milk, and her spoon began to turn it. “ hopefully you won’t be seeing either of mine after charlie shakes this bug. - unless it’s socially. ” a small sip of tea, her elbows placed on the counter. “ tell me something interesting about your life ? how are you and darce ? i just feel like i need to stimulate my brain outside of motherhood. ”

There’s not a lot Maggie’s good at – she’s shit at budgeting, her credit is a disaster, and her longest relationship is with Jack Daniels – but she does have one special skill. A sixth sense, really, for knowing when someone needs a drink. Pretty useless talent to most, she figures, but as a bartender, it comes in handy. People love leaving big tips when they feel seen.
But it’s not the tips she’s thinking about as she slides the usual across the bar to the lone patron. “You look like you could use this.”
the smell of liquor. it was one thing to be controlled in the atmosphere where it belonged to others, but when its slid into your space.. sloan felt her body automatically stiffen. ... - or was it because of the VOICE behind the glass. jack. some things hardly changed. it was sloans own fault. being aware of maggie’s place of employment, firstly, but secondly she had thought to put trust in her friends to tip her if the other woman had been there. it all was based on sloan going out or not. avoidance.
clearing her throat seemed to break down the petrified structure of her body. the blond rubbed her temples before conjuring the utter STRENGTH to look at the woman. “ no thank you. i’m fine with water. ” what an impersonal response. maggie was just ... beautifully, intoxicating, dangerous waters. waters she needed to stay away from. - and the teacher could just tip her head back and curse at the universe for making her deal with such a scene. she had a daughter with a high fever at home. ( what made her body langue apparent that she was NOT enjoying herself. ) - and being social with people wasn’t always easy, especially for sloan... in such a consuming setting. some days were better than others. period.

“Hey FAM,” Darce all but shouts to no one in particular as she walks into Retrograde that night. It’s not busy, but there are a smattering of people – enough that Darcy could surely find someone with an ear to talk off. “What’s the skinny? The haps? What are my cool kids up to?”
darce. of course the woman would grace everyone in such a presentable way. sloan wouldn’t have expected any other different scene to play out. “ you are absolutely WILD. ” laughing, sloan rubbed her temples before reaching for her glass of water. no wine tonight. her company was with another fellow teacher, until her company needed to bail to deal with her problematic babysitter. sloan herself was thankful she had a very nurturing, and trusting one looking over her two girls while she took a shot at adult normalcy. “ come sit.” at the bar. her hand patted the counter top. “ come, come. - where’s siofra ? hung up at work ? ” - afterall, sloan had been great friends with siofra for years. sad to not see her behind the blond, sloan was still delighted to unexpectedly see darcy.
siofraranford:
Siofra had always been open to home calls, she understood that there were times that taking your child out when they were unwell was just going to an uphill battle leaving parent and child more upset. It also helped that the woman who was asking for her help had become a friend over the years.
“It’s alright it’s what I’m here for,” Siofra said with a gentle smile as she walked into the home. “You said she’d been sick yeah? I wouldn’t worry about it being the virus because sickness isn’t one of the symptoms.” She knew that that was likely to be a parents top worry at the moment and wanted to put it to rest. “You’re not crazy I’d be wanting to stay in too if I was you. Why don’t we have a cup of tea and a chat?”
proper tea, and a chat. it would be just fine, considering charlie was tucked in bed. there wasn’t so much she could do right away for the sick napping child. siofra always knew exactly how to calm the woman down. sloan sometimes just thought it was some natural reassuring grace in the pediatricians existence. “ sounds good. ” living in america couldn’t sometimes take out the bluntness of her british roots. it was always in a pure, friendly tone.
walking into the kitchen, sloan collected the kettle. water would boil, and she would gather the tea cups with bags to place within, and near, a container and small spoon for the sugar, and a pourer of milk. “ i have some peanut butter and chocolate brownies the girls and i made last night, if you’d like a little sweet. ” an offering. naturally maternal. as the kettle worked itself, and the rest of the materials were placed on the island counter, sloan leaned against it looking over to her friend. “ so, how’ve you been, siofra ? ”
sonderbound:
“well, thankfully, i really like juice.”
“painting the town?” she presses down her own laugh, enjoying the peace of the room, even though it wasn’t for her. “ridiculous, really, that i’d ever rather sit with my friend than be crammed into some bar with music that’s way too loud for anyone who’s not completely blasted.”
there’s a playful glare as she takes it, moving to hold the bottle between her knees. “besides,” a shrug. “i really like goodnight moon.”
she opens it carefully, her face showing her hesitance to make any loud noise. as she does, mia speaks again. “i have no problem with this, lo. really. it’s nice. and it’s nice to see how much you care.” her head nods towards the child behind them. “they’re lucky to have such a good mom. or, i’m sorry, mum.”
there’s an inaudible celebration when she gets the bottle open, stifling a little cheer.
her eyes opted to roll. it was a better result than to bust out laughter that she was currently swallowing. surely, THAT would have woken the sleeping child. sloan had felt a cloud of endearment loom over them with mia’s sincerity. until she corrected herself with the playful mocking of ‘ mum. ’ that’s where the eye roll reeled in from. “ you sound like that one. ” her head tilted back. it was to motion to sleeping charlie. the tike was entirely full of sass. six going on 18, it seemed. children were humorous. “ she purposefully mocks me. ” charlie hadn’t carried much of an accent. both of her children raised in the heart of california. her youngest, preciously clung to the accent. it was soft, and heart-pinching. “ shes a lover of rebellion. - there’s STILL hope for her sweet sibling though. ” a finger pointed in the air.
“ but, thank you. ” eyes directed to mia beside her. the comfort the other was bringing was radiant, and yet soft. the words were almost TOO much to accept and appreciate. so, without any further spoken words, sloan rested her head on the others shoulder. it was brief, but a moment of relief. there was so much stress in being a mother. times came when she questioned how the hell she was balancing it all. life was ... funny. “ alright. ” lifting her head, sloan poured the two glasses with wine. demi-sec. fairly sweet, but not all too much. “ do you REALLY want me to read this to you ? ” - because she would. - and with a light hearted shushed laugh.

Sighing was something Santana found herself doing way too often at her job, yet that’s exactly what she found herself doing for the umpteenth time that day. With a roll of her eyes, she rung out the rag before moving it to the wall, using the frustration she felt to fuel her scrubbing, because seriously, why were people such jerks? Her ears pricked as she heard a few sounds before the door opened to the small hall that lead to the kitchen and bathroom of the truckstop. Why anyone would choose to eat there was beyond her - then again, the type of customer the establishment seemed to draw in were the type to graffiti the damn walls. Barely sparing a glance at whoever it was, she continued the task at hand, only muttering, “We close soon.”
“ i’m terribly sorry, - i’ll be quick. ” a truthfully spoken tongue of promise. “ i just feel like i am going to burst. ” like a water balloon, or something that would bust dramatically. home wasn’t too far in distance, but the teacher knew if she waited any longer that would be pushing it. - or her kidneys would surrender, and fail. couldn’t have THAT. pushing through the door, sloan could barely get it shut before she pulled her pants down. high-waisted jeans were such a BITCH in rushing moments. as she did her business with such relief, the blond chided who ever invented the restricting denim.
thank GOD the children weren’t with her. sloan rolled her eyes in imagination. the two tots reaching a point of whining being in the car too long. - and she’d never admit it to her eldest daughter, but there was only so many times she could hear FROZEN songs before wanting to completely blow her brains out. the facade a mother put on sometimes was spectacular. oscar award-winning, even. “ jesus. thank god.” honestly, felt like a new woman. washing her hands thoroughly, sloans eyes caught sight of the woman in the reflection. “ cleaning up after those who clearly don’t know how to be respectful ? ” a look of apology. “ you owe yourself a stiff drink after your shift... or some proper trash food. - or BOTH. ”
