A Luxurious Dress Watch from My Love ❤️

My wife bought this watch for me from her grandmother's favorite jewelry store in Nuremberg and gifted it to me for my birthday during our trip to Lisbon in 2022. It is the classiest dress watch in my collection. This piece pairs nicely with my colorful suits and I love wearing it at weddings and on fancy dates with my wife :)

"The name Le Locle seems to be a reliable ingredient of success. As well as being the name of Tissot's home and heritage, nestled in the Swiss Jura Mountains, it is the name of a hugely popular automatic watch family. The models display exquisite elegance with details such as Roman numerals and a traditional Le Locle signature which complete the picture of classical chic.

Understated Elegance & Sporty Versatility

This was a gift from a good family friend - shortly after I graduated from college and before I started law school - back in May of 2013.

This is the only quartz movement watch in my collection, and I especially like that it's an Omega, which was one of the only Swiss companies to embrace innovative quartz movements to compete with Japanese and American watch companies during the "Quartz Revolution." While other Swiss watch companies responded to the "Quartz Crisis" by remaining focused on traditional mechanical automatic movements (which can be more expensive and less accurate), Omega was not afraid to venture into this new technology. This piece makes me think of that history, and I enjoy being reminded of the practicality and adaptability this watch represents.

Stylistically, it's an understated and minimalist timepiece, and I like to wear it when I don't want to draw attention to the fact that I have a fancy watch. It's humble, but classy and great for black-tie events, yet also somber and professional - good for funerals and sentencing hearings, where flashy dress watches may not be appropriate. Personally, I love wearing this with my three-piece black and grey suits, though it looks great with black Levi's too.

With a water resistance of 150 M, it's also the only watch in my collection that I can confidently swim in, so it's the watch that I wear to Hawaii when I visit with my family.

My First Watch:

A Gift from Mama Lo

My mom had bought this for me when I was still in elementary school, sometime in the late 90's to early 2000's; it was my first watch ever, and I've had it for decades. At first, I hated the color, but have grown to adore it (proving that mom often knows best). Yellow is also my mother's favorite color, so it's nice to be reminded of her (and her excellent taste in watches) when I wear this piece.

I wore this watch through law school and throughout my career as a public defender. The racing theme seems appropriate for the pace and excitement of my work, but it also promotes a certain kind of energy I like to feel in my practice: vibrant and fun, sporty yet classy, and maybe a little eccentric.

This watch matches with everything, is extremely versatile, and I wear it almost every day, more often than any other watch in my collection.

"This striking model is notable for its 'younger aesthetics' and was launched by racing legend Michael Schumacher, who had become a new OMEGA ambassador in 1996.

As well as featuring a racing-style minute track, the watch has a rubber presentation box that resembled the tires of F1 cars and featured Schumacher’s signature in white."

Past, Present & Future: My First Vintage Rolex

I got this watch on March 10th, 2025, the same day I was certified to co-counsel murder cases as a public defender in the State of Oregon; having practiced for over 7 years, it felt like a very special milestone to commemorate.

A fun detail about this particular watch is that it was made in 1984, the same year that my mom came to the United States! And as my first vintage watch, it's fun to think that I can pass it off to my son, who might wear it when he's in his 60's, and by then, this watch will be over 100 years old!

What makes this watch even more special to me is that I purchased it with a portion of my godmother's inheritance, and it's lovely to have something that will always remind me of her.

My mom had gifted my godmother's Rolex to my wife, who wears it for important court hearings and special events, and I felt it would be nice to get a matching piece for similar occasions.

How serendipitous, then, that I would find the perfect watch, and then purchase it on the same day as the most important professional milestone of my career yet; as if my godmother were still congratulating me from above :)

So much to celebrate, hope for and honor with this timepiece.

Vintage 1984 Rolex Datejust 16013

White "Buckley" dial with black painted Roman numerals.

Calibre 3035 Automatic self-winding chronometer movement with a 42-hour power reserve.

Manufactured in 1980-1989, the original Buckley dial included radioactive tritium lume dots, which likely had fallen off over time due to degradation of the lacquer binding, which was not uncommon.

This watch matches with every suit, and is a classic dress-watch for formal attire, although it could certainly be dressed down and worn with more casual attire as well.

The two-tone jubilee bracelet and fluted bezel give this timepiece an elegant and luxurious feel, complimented by a Buckley dial that acts almost as a counterweight to the extravagance, resulting in a classic look that is minimalist and understated.
