Okay so the writing for episode 8 was definitely weird... Right?

Especially certain Harry lines.. Angel's lines.. the way certain scenes were edited. This episode felt a little all over the place not gonna lie. I still thought it was objectively good but something felt really off.

Trying to write a Dexter fic is so hard because I don't know if I want it to be well written or if I want it to read like an actual episode of Dexter..

I know I'm not the first to say this and certainly not the last but one of the main reasons episode seven was such a letdown wasn't exactly because of the way it was written but because...

Spoilers and a rant under the cut for those not caught up!

Everyone hyped it up SO much. The Gemini twist was hyped up SO much by the people working on this show and it ended up being... Nothing.

I still really enjoyed episode seven and I'm loving Resurrection as a whole.. but yes I do think the killers were ALL wasted potential. Watching Dexter kill the first one was so awesome! Because it was the "return" of the Bay Harbor Butcher and it left the audience wondering what was going to happen next.

And then a pattern was established. Where he quickly got rid of Mia after only an episode and killed Gemini without even letting him get a final word in.. and it didn't leave much to the imagination anymore. That was how the show was going to go. So when Gemini's twist was revealed it seemed like there would be a change in pace.. and also everyone in interviews practically hinted at this big shake up for Dexter 🙃 Only for him to kill the second twin like it was nothing. I think any long time Dexter fan would agree.

We've seen Dexter use that exact provoking trick before, the "he came after me first!" thing, and then the framing part which honestly felt unfulfilled this time because clearly nobody is actually buying that Gemini was the one targeting the other members of the group, and how much time did it really buy Dexter anyway?? It feels so boring, even more so after they made Gemini into such a big deal.

If they were always planning to waste David Dastmalchian's fantastic acting skills like that.. they could have done without the theatrics of teasing the Gemini reveal and saying things like 'Dexter would be challenged.'

Dexter was not challenged. By any of these killers. If he WERE to be challenged it should have been by the second Gemini twin, scorned by the reveal of his brother's murder. But instead he picked him off with a shard of wine glass and that was done. 🤦

Still very interested and curious to see where this show goes.. just disappointed. Because I think like a lot of y'all, I spent all week only thinking about how this episode was going to go down and it was.. quite underwhelming.

Okay. The show is coming to an end this Sunday and I've seen mixed reviews on it. Before everything is said and done, I am just curious where everyone is at by now..

How do y'all feel about the overall quality of the final season? I'm talking writing, acting, costuming, plot points, side characters, storylines etc.

I can't be the only one who is starting to feel like there's something off about this season.

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying it's bad or anything but it just feels off. I can't put my finger on what it is (yet) but in comparison to the last three, this season isn't feeling the same.

This may be an unpopular take but I feel like some people in this fandom need to remember that the Gemstones... Are not good people.

It's weird to me that some people play favorites just bc they frown upon something one of the Gemstones did at one point in the show.

You cannot love Baby Billy but hate Jesse for treating his sons the way he does.

You cannot love Kelvin but hate Judy because she has her own insecurities in her relationship with BJ.

You cannot love Keefe but shit on Amber because she's devoted to Jesse and blindly follows him (sometimes).

I think it's important to remember that at it's very core, this show is not about perfect people. ALL of the characters have flaws and it's not fair to hate on only *some* of them for the same reasons you love others.
