Its my birthday, and ive realized ive not posted art in SO LONG, but ive never stopped drawing

so ive made myself a little birthday/new year goal, to suck it up, and just post stuff

so expect a very diverse amount of fanart and sketches in the coming weeks

a positive word on jacob romero as usopp because i feel like he’s been a bit overlooked at first - so: besides the usual top tier OPLA performance suspects (emily rudd - she fought 3 years to be nami and it shows - and another funky jeff ward masterclass) alongside david dastmalchian as a hyper-sadistic, scene-stealing mr. 3 plus the breakout performance of mark harelik/doctor hiriluk, jacob also has to be mentioned as the standout in the series. he brings in all of usopp’s chaotic facets, quirks, energy, raison d'être, make-believe, and his presence fills the screen with atmosphere. usopp/jacob is like bass in a band, you notice when the contribution is missing. even people who weren’t happy with the second season haven’t mentioned him once (if you don’t stand out to a hater you can’t be clocked i guess? safe to say people like him all across the board). it’s just like jeff who melts into the franchise so organically while adding his own fun flavor to the part, making the role his natural home, especially through body language. which is difficult because jacob has to make it clear that usopp is a person who pretends to be someone else. so jacob has to act as if he was an actor within the acting (lmao it’s insane) and make it obvious to the audience as well, which he succeeds at. he’s believable and straight out of the anime. OPLA really brings this all to life with it’s own logic it’s crazy.

The thing I love the most about David Dastmalchian being in the One Piece is that years ago he literally said in an interview that he had started reading One Piece because his son loved it and he had become a huge fan himself. And he joked that if they ever made anything One Piece related he would love to be in it.

And I just love that my guy manifested that so hard because not only did he end up in the show, they gave him Mr. 3. They gave him Galdino. Which is SUCH a David Dastmalchian character it’s not even funny. Like. This man basically became famous so he could play weird little comic book freaks that he personally loves and honestly? respect. That is the best possible career path.

And the thing is I never doubted him for a second. I may doubt many things in life but I never doubt David Dastmalchian’s commitment to a character. Because he’s a fan. He plays these roles as a fan. So of course his Mr. 3 is amazing. And now I’m just sitting here thinking about the inevitable Impel Down arc and realizing we are eventually going to get his Galdino interacting with Jeff Ward’s Buggy and honestly that’s a need I didn’t know I had until this casting happened.

Also shoutout to Joe Manganiello because that man is ALSO a gigantic nerd who loves comics, he just happens to look like a walking action figure so people forget. And now he gets to play Crocodile in the same show. Imagine being a massive nerd and suddenly you’re playing Crocodile in One Piece. That man must be living his best teenage dream right now.

Honestly more productions should cast actual nerds. They care more. They’re happier to be there. And you can tell.
