When you can’t sleep at night. Trip planning is the next best thing to do. Popped wide awake at 1:49 AM. I’m camping in the most secure location in Alabama. No noise and no worries. Sometimes I just wake up raring to go.
The Pelican 1600 case fit where the Yeti 50 was. Water jug, @biolite grill, anchor, chain and rode back in their original spot. Won’t have to move the tie downs. Bottom case will hold weeks of food while the top case holds my cooking gear, stove, seasoning and clean up stuff along with a weeks worth of food. Top case is already packed to go. This all worked out better than I had hoped. Now to cut decent straps to replace 1/4” Vintage line. #smallcraftlife #coastalexploration #coastalsurvival #Bushcraftskills #bushcraftgear
Road kill surprise for supper. I got most of the bones, fur and Firestone pieces out before I started cooking. Will go good on some pasta with a nice fresh salad. Smells better than it did earlier today!
Thanks to all for the questions. The black rings are cup, can or bottle holders. I bought one of those swim pads and cut to roughly fit my cockpit sole. It had four of these holders that I repositioned to fit my needs. Two forward and two aft. I sit on the sole when I sail most of the time. Moving about while tacking is much more comfortable on this pad. I also use it to sleep on. Multi-use as everything should be on a small craft. The red strap holds the pad to the boat which adds roughly 300+ pounds of flotation. The straps are secured to stainless steel straps I screwed and fiberglassed to the inside of the hull. It comes out easily to clean the bilge. I’ll trim for a better fit in the next week after I fit the new containers up forward.
I had three of these Pelican 1600 expedition cases in storage. Here are two of them stacked where the Yeti 50 was tied down. They fit. One of these cases was previously used as my overland galley box. The other two were used as food storage. Going from overland to on the water will make no difference. Now to sort out the mounting and strapping. Guess I’ll see how this works out. Now to clean everything and get started with the changes. Stay Tuned!
Unloaded from a few sailing trips. Pretty dirty. I don’t think I am going to reinstall the Yeti. Wasn’t a good utilization of the space. Going to try something else. Now to clean Mon Neg!
Added a frame to a piece of artwork created by Anne Plummer a wonderful Marine Artist from the UK. Another Small Boat painting for the caravan.
No to find a location on S/V Mon Neg to mount my Garmin Montana 750i and the associated iPhone for the sonar display.
I did have trouble with my iPad and Navionics this past weekend and last week. Speed display often hung up, Sonar integration didn’t work correctly. I think I’ll go back to my Montana 750i. I always have my paper charts, compass and monocular as my primary tools. I was getting to use to the convenience of the electronic tools. I’m never out of sight of the shoreline for that long. So no big issue for me.
The photo above is from my trip to Galveston and not this weekend trip to the Mississippi gulf coast. But the issue we’re on that trip too.
Had a great sail and did some exploring too! Always feels like I am the first person to land on the island when I see no foot prints and no trash.
Some distances to consider if you are visiting the Mississippi barrier islands.
So happy and fortunate to get views like this whenever we want them. Photo reminds me to epoxy the bottoms edge of my paddle, finish the hunting spear tip for my gray walking stick, and order another 125’ of 7/16 Vintage anchor line. Both seen in this picture. No rest for the weary.
Amazing all the Sunfish out sailing at the US Sunfish Masters held at the BWYC (Bay St. Louis / Waveland Mississippi USA
Everything working normal. Components are talking to each other. Always double check your firmware revision number against the latest available from the manufacturer. No matter what brand you use. A firmware update can sometimes give you that little bit of extra efficiency that we can all use in our systems.
The 110vac to 12v lithium battery charger is doing its part to keep my four 12v 24ah lithium cells fully charged. I don’t use it often because the solar panel and charge controller normally does the job while I’m out.
