Happy Pride Month to all of my fellow aces!! 🖤🩶🤍💜
I suddenly became very interested in whether Irving would make it into heaven, and I was delighted to find out that he would. For protestants it seems it's not particularly complicated in that regard. I was also wondering whether his martyr's death means anything, but protestants are rather indifferent to that too, so they don't fixate on all those unhealthy details. As I understand it, in some denominations it adds points toward sainthood, but not here. They could've at least added some gold to the halo, look how much that poor guy suffered.
Little unbuttons Jopson's trousers
Literally me watching this
Every time another questionable whump idea crosses my mind and I worry people will misunderstand me if I post it, I remember this picture and laugh so hard. This is literally me.
Given how much I love the PTSD theme, it's strange I'm so little interested in Hodgson, who ate human flesh off a porcelain plate with knife and fork to make the whole thing seem more normal, and then compared the experience to a mass. The human psyche is a fascinating thing. If Hodgson had survived and returned to England, he'd have become Patrick Bateman.
By the way, did you know that rats can laugh, but this frequency is undetectable to the human ear? Indeed, why shouldn't rats laugh.
Damn!!! For the first time I noticed that during Irving and Hickey's conversation, they carry a ladder right behind Irving. It's insane. To me that’s less a reference to Hickey’s ambitions and more like Jacob’s ladder. Irving promises Hickey that he can find God, and despite how comic the scene is, it’s also touching if you think about it. Irving means well. I think the ladder underlines the sincerity of his words and that he actually believes it himself. And that conversation is the trigger, while the ladder is Chekhov’s gun. You’ll climb that ladder yourself, dear.
I really like Fitzjames, but I keep stumbling over the fact that I can't come up with enough whump scenarios for him. I can only be obsessed with characters I can make suffer and bleed. For example, in my opinion, Fitzjames would be perfect for a whump scenario where someone cuts his face with a knife. But I can't come up with emotionally interesting reasons for it, or find someone who'd do it in a way that works for their dynamic. I guess it's a skill issue. If anyone can come up with a scenario where someone cuts Fitzjames' face with a knife, I'll take off my hat to them with the deepest respect.
Okay, I’ve slept, and an idea came to me. China Mieville’s lore is, as always, full of charm - in The Scar, there’s a custom in which a lover’s or wife’s face may be scarred so that no one else will desire her. Especially if your lover is beautiful: the more attractive she is, the greater the chance that someone else will want to take her away. So, an omegaverse AU (of course! Omegaverse AU can take anything), where Fitzjames is hiding the fact that he’s an omega, but when it comes out, guess what happens? That’s right: FORCED MARRIAGE. Yes, there’s both omegaverse and forced marriage here, why not. Francis knows that Fitzjames is very beautiful 😔 and Fitzjames knows it too, but of course he isn’t worried - god, they’re in the Arctic, the rules are different here. And after all, they’re comrades in this brotherhood at sea, it’s not the same thing as if he were just some weak omega. And although in some places this tradition is considered honorable, and omegas wear their scars with pride, Fitzjames... wouldn’t want that. He likes his face. He likes being admired. If his beauty is the weapon they want to disarm him of, why should he want that for himself? But Francis can’t stop thinking about his face. No, James is too beautiful, too beautiful. And Francis has already lost enough, so if there is anything that can keep Fitzjames with him...
Of course, the rifle is Jopson’s acknowledged weapon, but you know what else would suit him as a symbol, just as the knife suits Hickey? Scissors. I can imagine a great scene with Jopson armed with bloody scissors (guess whose blood is on them).

Jopson and Jopson with mayonnaise on his face
back on that. jopzier.
Star Trek AU works really well for The Terror, but imagine Crozier’s uniform keeps ripping all the time. Okay, wait- No, I need this AU seriously now.
When you're sufficiently Hickey-pilled, Irving's killing can metaphorically be viewed through the lens of rape revenge. But then the question comes up - why Irving, and not Crozier? Crozier wanted to break his spirit, to humiliate him, so to take back what was taken from him, you need something more complex. Irving is one of the instruments of power. The physical can be destroyed by the physical.
succession is as much about sexual abuse and incestuous abuse as it is business. logan lords over the children in all aspects of their lives, including the sexual, he is invasive because he is surveillance, he is news, he is the world. he goes missing from their childhoods to spend his time aiding and abetting and wining and dining sexual abusers and rapists, who he then brings home to them, because work and family are one, and the home and the office are one. he spends their adulthood covering it up and pawning them off to aid in managing the fallout. roman is sexually perverse and anorexic, shiv is hypersexual and transactional, kendall is infertile and oedipal. there was a dog cage and roman kept wetting the bed because kendall locked him inside and fed him dog food and they both 'enjoyed it' and logan used this or orchestrated this to find the runt and send him away, "you got two fighting dog's you send the weak one away, you punish the weak one". shiv is a daddy's girl and the favourite, in his varying states of delirium she becomes his wives and he drags her hand down to grope him under his clothes. kendall is groomed his entire life and toyed with and discarded over and over in a perverse push and pull of intimacy and violence that logan enacts as business and as sex, because in succession sex and business are interchangable. "sometimes it is a big dick competition."
