Sean Mort was part of our print exhibition last week and showcased some of his fantastic screen prints.

About:

Sean Mort is a designer, illustrator and screen printer based in the UK and he has been making gig posters and art prints since 2011. He has created posters for The National, Death Cab For Cutie, Band Of Horses, Fleet Foxes, Midlake, Ben Folds Five, Friendly Fires, The Magnetic Fields and many others. As a designer he has also worked with The University of Warwick, Threadless and Lionsgate Films among many others.

In this time he has exhibited his work all over the UK, Rome, Barcelona, Hamburg, Austin and Los Angeles.

It's great to announce that Hope House Prints will be joining us at our print fair this Wednesday!

About:

Hope House Prints is a collective of artists who work with, but not exclusively, the medium of print.

Our collective philosophy is to provide a platform for people to engage in the practical process of print making. We do this through running community and education workshops around different print processes and paper making. We also love taking our pop up DIY Screen Printing stall on the road. This summer expect to see us returning to Beacons Festival and Festival No.6.

@wyprintworkshop will be joining us on the day to give you lots of information about their open access printmaking, studio spaces, courses and workshops!

About WYPW:

"Our primary aim is to support artists and creative businesses by providing open and accessible printmaking facilities, affordable studio spaces and exhibiting opportunities for members. 

We provide a regular programme of educational workshops which includes specialised printmaking courses as well as more general art and craft courses. We have three main printing rooms as well as a large community room which is used to host larger workshops and activities, as well as special events and exhibitions."

@FootprintLeeds will be in attendance on the day! They will be bringing along some of their material which they produce on their Risograph RZ which is a wonderful demonstration of traditional printing methods being driven with more modern technology.

About Footprint: 

We are a small, ecologically minded radical printers based in Leeds. We are a workers co-operative, which means our business is owned by the workers. As we have no bosses we run it as we want, doing interesting jobs for interesting people. We print zines, posters, newsletters, flyers, books, record sleeves and that sort of gubbins. We like this stuff so much that we run a distro of the things we've printed that we like the most.

Jo Wilkinson will be exhibiting some of her beautiful prints on the day as well as joining us with a stall packed full of her wonderful work!  

About: 

"I love drawing. I love printing - monoprint, relief, drypoint and I have just discovered collography with a touch of carborundum. I love ephemera too. I started making little books about two years ago and I haven't looked back since. I use all three loves in my tiny tomes. It is a very satisfying all encompassing thing to do.....draw make fold stick."

We are delighted to have Village (@village_leeds) taking part in our print fair on Wednesday 24th April. Their store is based upstairs in the Corn Exchange and is definitely worth a visit!  

About Village:

Village is a new art book store, gallery and publishing house based in The Corn Exchange. We offer a curated selection of contemporary artist books, creative magazines and self-published zines from independent publishers, artists and collectives around the world. Our stock includes inspirational  and cutting-edge art, design, illustration and photography publications from well-known and emerging artists, as well as some of the world’s best and most sought-after fashion and lifestyle magazines.

The store also acts as a gallery and event space. We regularly host exhibitions, book launches, workshops and artists talks. To date we have worked with Jay Cover (Nous Vous), No Culture Icons and DR.ME and have many exciting events planned for the future.

We are currently in the process of setting up our espresso bar and will soon be serving great quality coffees in store. We want to offer a unique experience and make Village a space where people can meet, hang out, browse the shelves and the gallery and revive the forgotten art of exploring a book store.

In addition to the shop we have also launched Village Press, a new publishing platform that views print as an art form in its own right. Each book we produce is the product of close collaboration with the artists and every aspect of the design, materials used and the processes involved is carefully considered in order to ensure the end result communicates the same ideas as the work itself.

The overall aim of Village is to celebrate the medium of print and champion creativity across a range of disciplines. Our goal is to develop the Leeds creative community as a whole by providing exposure to talented emerging artists and connecting different organisations and collectives through collaboration. We want to put independent art at the forefront of the city’s identity and make the Leeds creative community something people are proud to be part of.

Gold Hands Collective will be joining us with their vast knowledge of up and coming local creatives as well as bringing down some of their own cool t-shirts and prints. 

Background:

'Leeds based creative collective and design studio. We promote the up and coming designers, illustrators, photographers and musicians of our generation.

Creativity in art and music have always been and will be massive influences in our lives. We use our hands for all we do, and so value them like Gold.'

We are very happy to let you all know that @armyofcats aka Graham Pilling will be exhibiting some of his fantastic screen prints on our traditional print day. 

Graham Pilling is a graphic designer and print maker from Leeds. Working under the studio name Army of Cats, his creative output ranges from working with commercial clients on branding and logo design to illustrating gig posters and record sleeves for noisy bands.

He has taken part in numerous international exhibitions and his work has appeared in a handful of books about screenprinting and concert posters. He occasionally teaches screenprinting workshops and lectures on graphic design and in his free time enjoys running and cycling over the Yorkshire hills.

Prepare yourself for screen prints, lino prints and etchings being brought down by @thejujushop, who will be part of our print fair on the day. If you can't wait until then, definitely go and check out their lovely store in the Corn Exchange.
