Visit Peak District will today launch a range of Augmented Reality postcards as part of their Extending the Season Campaign.
Smart4 were asked to develop interactive postcards for visitors to the Peak District, the cards will be used to promote independent businesses who create high quality food and drink produce. Over the last month Mike has filmed Sarah at Taste of the Moorlands, Bob at Hope Valley Ice Cream, Dave at CocoaDance, Adrian and Alan at Hartington Creamery and Robert at Peak Ales.
To see the films from each of the companies, download the Aurasma app which is free form the App store or Google Play, then search and follow the Extending the Season channel.
Then simply scan the picture on the front of the postcard to view the film.
All of the producers involved will be attending the "2013 Peak District Tourism Conference and Exhibition" at Pavilion Gardens, Buxton. So to get your own postcard or to speak to the producers and buy some fantastic Biscuits, Ice Cream, Chocolate, Cheese and Beer, head along to the event.
Great article explaining the potential of AR to work as an effective teaching resource. Article by Judy Bloxham for the Guardian, have a look to see how Smart4's Dan Hodge helped Judy realise that AR isn't just a fad!
Who are the digital practitioners?
Smart4's Dan Hodge will be delivering a seminar at the upcoming bett Powering Learning event at the Excel in London.
Dan will be explaining how we worked with JIsc and Kendal College to create the Living Learning app, providing a Health & Safety Augmented Reality resource for the Construction Department. Allowing students to view safe working practices on their Smart phone or on iPads provided by the College.
The aim of the project was to support learning and provide opportunities for the students who are working independently to find solutions.
To find out more about the project and to see what Dan will be talking about visit our website.
Great to see the amazing Aurasma app with updates now live on the App store and Google Play to download. Smart4 has been selected as a developing partner to help you get to use it, making use of the new channel feature to build your own catalogue of Auras for people to view.

Filming at Oaklands Manor outdoor centre in Buxton for their upcoming AR campaign.
As it's nearly our birthday we thought we better treat our website to a facial!

New Tricks
We've been experimenting with some new applications available from Aurasma. For the recent Living LeARning campaign we developed for Jisc with Kendal College we've incorporated screen pause and play options into the video.
This enables Kendal College students to view practical demonstrations to recap skills through the Living LeARning App and pause the video allowing them to do a small part of the activity before return to the video for the next step.
More exciting function developments to come soon.

Living LeARning for Education
Smart4 recently developed a JISC funded project undertaken for Kendal College. Living LeARning is an Augmented Reality project to reinforce teaching and learning in areas not normally heavily supported by IT.
The first stage of the project focuses on Plumbing with 14 AR posters that demonstrate safe working processes. The videos can be paused allowing the viewer to be taken through activities step by step.
You can download the Aurasma powered Living LeARning App from the App Store or Android Market Place.
For information about this project and others contact Smart4.
Here's a video to show you how we created an Aurasma powered App to bring the Buxton College prospectus to life using Augmented Reality.

Great day at Tameside College
smart4 had a great day at Tameside college yesterday for the college's staff development day. We provided training and lectures to the colleges staff on "Augmented Reality in Education".
After meeting the team at Tameside previously and giving them guidance on using Aurasma within Tameside College, our session complimented the "in house session" showcasing the colleges use of Augmented Reality so far.
