- Don't draw only stuff that you intend to finish. Make many sketches and doodles! Put away the pressure of your own standards
- train yourself to draw long lines. Make some curved, some straight. This will make the process of drawing much easier. Try to do circles in one stroke too!
- try out different brushes and pens, whether you draw traditionally or digitally. This way you'll find what gets you going smoothly
- reduce your uses of the eraser/ctrl-z for your sketches. It gotta stay messy, otherwise you'll almost always gonna be disappointed with your lineart. Unless you want to keep the sketch AS lineart of course.
- if you use building skeletons to start a character, use curvy lines, preferably. This will make the pose less stiff and more natural.
- for making the colors a little more harmonious on digital, start and fill a base color for the subject, then on a top layer, color it like you do normally. When you're done, reduce the opacity of the latter a little, like 10 to 15%, and you're done!
- don't go pure white with eyes and teeth, make them a little bit yellow for realism, or you can use blue gray or purple for funsies
- use references whenever you can. Your own body, stock photos, illustrations by artists you like... Otherwise your inspiration will inevitably dry up and you'll hit a nasty art block. You can also allow yourself to trace, a little bit, so you can pose the guiding lines correctly. DON'T trace the lineart of other artists (and then post it), that's rude asf and cheating, you will learn nothing and never improve.
- no such thing as girl body and boy body. Sexual dimorphism isn't that big in humans, and you can have women with broad shoulders and men with large hips and breasts (yes, even cis men). Have fun with it 👍
