Uncertain

I’m sick of living in “unprecedented times”, 

If someone important would pick up a history book, 

I think I’d see that phrase a lot less. 

It’s all so uncertain- 

I knew I didn’t have control, 

But knowing and seeing are two different things. 

Uncertain, adjective 

‘Not being able to be relied on; not known or definite’

I’m living in an age where no one trusts the government, 

Or corporations, or the economy, or gas prices, 

Or even other people. 

Independence is now a coping mechanism. 

I have one real friend, 

The others seem fictitious. 

I watch world leaders on a big, wide screen; 

I read peoples’ thoughts and commentary, 

And I wonder if we’re going in the right direction. 

People look to my generation for change, 

But I already know: 

Our brightest stars will be burnt out.
