How to make a detailed research of an Instagram account growth strategy
The users apply two ways to grow their accounts: organic and automated. To discover which way is used by a certain Instagram user you should monitor his actions within 2–3 weeks with the Instagram monitoring tool Snoopreport and then compare the data with the common user behavior on Instagram. More details here: https://snoopreport.com/use_cases_blog/2017/11/28/how-to-determine-if-instagram-growth-is-organic-or-automated/
Let’s see how you can discover a growth strategy and what data you can get from this research.
If an user makes 2482 likes within one week his activity is completely automated and mass liking method is used. The number of likes for the usual user’s behavior is about 50–500 likes a week.
To make certain that the activity is automated you should check out the Actions Hitmap that displays the 24/7 activity and top and low periods of activity with obvious target time zone.
To determine the targeted hashtags used have a look at liked media tags cloud.
It shows all the liked posts hashtags with the most popular ones and among them (they have a bigger font size and brighter colour).
The users also apply follow-to-follow method when the bots follow other users instead of you and these users are expected to follow your account back.
When the number of follows prevails 20-30 follows a week it's a follow-to-follow strategy. If there are about 1000 follows it is surely!
To avoid bans the user distributed the equal number of follows evenly and the follows activity is continuous for 24/7. So the conclusion is that the account’s engagement is 100% automated.
When you discover other users growth strategies, you can update your own and borrow some tips.

Research how users grow their Instagram accounts: with organic or automated method?
Instagram is widely used by brands and bloggers, businesses and marketers to attract their target audience and engage with it. Instagram is a great place to boost products and services, listen to your customers, expand your influence on social media and more.
You need a large number of followers to implement this. To gain more followers you can apply one of the following method of growth: organic or automated.
Organic growth
It is an user's natural behavior on social networks: posting the photos and videos, creating a single theme for posts, use of the hashtags, contests and the engagement. To attract more users to like and follow you back you should make many likes, comments, follows.
For an organic growth only your activity matters.
Automated growth
It takes the minimum of your activity because Instagram bots behave on your behalf. To start using it you need to select the specific hashtags, geotags or users so the bots actions will be targeted. Then they will like Instagram posts, comment them and follow/unfollow users and real people will follow back your Instagram account.
Research how other users grow accounts
If you want to research how other Instagram accounts grow the best way is to use monitoring. With the Instagram tool Snoopreport that tracks user likes, comments and follows you can explore the competitors marketing strategy, customers interests, raising trends on Instagram. after one week check a report and see every post someone liked on Instagram and users he followed.
compare the certain user activity with the common user behavior to know how an user grows his account.
The standard like activity varies from 50 to 500 likes and the follows one from 20 to 30 a week.
If the user makes more than 600 likes a week he probably uses a mass liking way for his followers count growth.
If more than 1000 likes it is for sure! And if he follows more than 20 users within a week, it is an automated follow-to-follow method.

THE INSTAGRAM USER BEHAVIOR TENDENCIES RESEARCH PERFORMED BY PUBLICIS MEDIA
Internet is a great place for brands to display their products and services. That’s why they tend to create accounts in social networks to have solid presence and to engage their customers and attract the potential ones.
Every brand is about to create an effective marketing strategy for successful promotional campaigns. Some use a simple way — they pay for ads on all social media, buy services of the most expensive influencers, but it’s not 100% guaranteed that you will achieve your goals with such costs.
There is another way — to make a plan of your marketing campaigns and analyze some common points on social media — celebrities and influencers posts, popular and niche hashtags, the competitors ways of promotion and so on.
The most advanced strategy includes the monitoring of your customers interests and activity tendencies, your competitors growth strategies and new trends on Instagram. It helps to improve your content and target the users you really need.
How to apply it on one of the most used social network — Instagram
Instagram is the social media with high quality images and stylish photos, so the users are attracted mostly by the content related to fashion, car, travel industries. The smartest way to reveal the trends of popular content is to monitor users on Instagram: what photos they like, what posts they comment, what new users they follow.
Snoopreport can help you with that. You just need to add Instagram usernames in the dashboard and choose the number of weeks for monitoring. The service then will track the user actions during the time period set and will provide you the user activity report each week.
And one of the “Big Four” largest marketing and communications agencies in the world — Publicis Media used the monitoring to track Instagram users.
They had an artificial intelligence agent mine Instagram to understand what type of beauty captures the attention of millennials.
They selected 200 Instagram users for the research, namely Instagram followers of Fructis and Other Millennial brands pages, and monitored them during 15 days. The results of monitoring — 48,000 pictures liked were provided in the reports.
Then they used Google Vision Image Recognition that described each image in 20 words and got the clusters of text labels.
Basing on the analysis of these clusters they made important findings of top beauty themes.
The research implemented the aims set and provided user insights (the users interests displayed in clusters) and the trends in beauty industry images.

In ‘Likes’ you can see the profile photos and usernames of the users that got likes, the number of monitored users engaged with them, the number of likes received, photo snippets of the posts that you can click to see full on Instagram. To the right of the photo snippets there is a number of monitored users that made them (if more than one). The data is sorted in descending order by interactions with the certain user. The more likes made the higher an interaction rate with this user is.
In ‘Follows’ there are photo snippets and usernames of the accounts the monitored users followed on Instagram. The report displays only the users followed by more than one monitored users. On the right there is a number of monitored users that followed the certain account.
How to use group reports for analytics
Group reports are the great source of user insights and data for analysis.
There is an example of the research made by our team of Snoopreport.
We monitored 73 celebrities Instagram accounts within 9 weeks and then generated a group report.
We searched the users with up to 1 million followers that are engaged by minimum 10% of the users monitored. In other words we looked for implicit influencers and here they are:
https://www.instagram.com/upscalehype/
https://www.instagram.com/patrickta/
https://www.instagram.com/davegrutman/
https://www.instagram.com/hungvanngo/
We analyzed follows during this period as well, and we can see quickly gaining popularity accounts among our users selection:
Among the users that are followed by at least 5% of our users selected there are 2 accounts under 1 million followers:
https://www.instagram.com/virgilabloh/
https://www.instagram.com/charliewalk
You can also see the most popular bloggers from the user's selection if you need to pick them for promoting your content:
The most popular bloggers are:
https://www.instagram.com/badgalriri/
https://www.instagram.com/djkhaled/
https://www.instagram.com/jlo/
https://www.instagram.com/kendalljenner/
https://www.instagram.com/cristiano/
https://www.instagram.com/beyonce/
So if you want to use your Influencers marketing to engage the audience of TOP Instagram celebrities with cheaper price, you should choose the users with up to 1 million followers that are widely popular among this audience. If there is a goal of using TOP Instagram influencers, we would choose the following accounts:
Badgalriri, djkhaled, jlo, kendaljenner, cristiano, beyonce
(19-25% engagement rate, possible reach up to 100%)
We made an example based on the monitoring of Instagram celebrities, it means we searched influencers among influencers, as the celebrities are more selective in making likes (25% of them don’t like almost anyone on Instagram and their accounts are likely managed by their agents). With individual users, who definitely manage their accounts by themselves and put likes to the posts with no selectivity, the accuracy of data will be even higher.
You can make your group report and start your own research of the Instagram users.
As group reports will be extremely useful for marketers and researchers, we offer them an opportunity to try Snoopreport for free.
