I don’t usually post things like this, but for the love of god, can people stop saying Timothee Chalamet has done more for ballet and opera than anyone else in the past 20 years?
bruh, Timothee hasn’t done sh*t for either. All of that was done by the dancers, musicians, vocalists, and fans of the medium. What exactly did Timothee do? Whine from his perch on a high horse.
Opera and ballet aren’t falling from popularity because nobody cares, they’re falling from popularity because they are the least accessible art form known to mankind. Only the incredibly wealthy are able to afford tickets to their shows (a bogus reason they use to claim it’s “high society”, it’s not, it’s just expensive) and its influence rarely reaches outside a theater. They don’t have cast recordings or animatics like Broadway musicals, and very rarely will they have bootleg recordings or slime tutorials. If there is a story for people to latch onto, it’s not one that can be gleaned from listening to the music alone. The whole point of ballet and opera is for it to be seen live, and that’s only something a very, very small percentage of people can afford to see.
Saying Timothee has done anything for the legitimate theater is like saying a person making homophobic comments has done a lot for the LGBT community because of how everyone rushed to prove him wrong. Give credit to the artists, not the people who try to tear them down.
