Came down with a bout of food poisoning on Friday but that didn’t stop the us from carrying on with the planned celebration. Don’t be deceived by the photos, I was actually lying down half the time. 🤪. It was a very cold day and steamboat was the perfect meal (although I ate my porridge). I was comforted by the laughter and chatter. Thank you for the surprise balloons and the video you girls made for me.. ❤️❤️ very happy that I get to share the celebration with QQ. Since Minghan planned a surprise birthday party for me last week, I decided to plan my own party on my actual day. What did I do? I shamelessly invited myself to Tim’s house and asked the entire gang along.. 😝 It was so good to see the whole gang all together at one place again, after years I believe.. There was good vibes all around, delightful conversations and wine flowed endlessly until past midnight… totally inconveniencing the hosts. You only get to use the 40th birthday pass once in a lifetime right? What a lovely evening! My husband actually managed to pull off a true surprise party for me despite us spending almost every moment together these days (maybe because the event was many days in advance of my actual birthday haha!) We arrived at my in laws’ place for our usual dinner and lo and behold, my friends were there exclaiming “Surprise!” But they claimed I was more delighted in meeting chef Tiziano whom Ming hired to cook up a feast for us all! 🤣 Our usual dining area was so beautifully done up with the help of my sis in law. And chef Tiziano really pampered us with such delicious food. I’m feeling really touched by everyone who showed up and made this night so special. I’m also really amused at how everyone had been trying to keep this a secret from me since the beginning of the month. One avoided texting me altogether, the other let slip but I was too unsuspecting. Minghan actually had a dream that he overslept on the actual day. Linus had been telling his dad worriedly, “I am scared that I will forget and tell mama” and on the day, when I picked him up from school, he kept giggling in excitement. What a memorable and heartwarming start to the big 40 celebrations! It’s been a year with really dark moments. I don’t know where to begin and how to describe so I’ll leave it as that. But if I have to sum up the year, I can only say it’s a year that once again, brought me friends who supported me through the darkest times, my husband who stood by me unwaveringly, my son who gave me joy in the saddest moments and just people who showed me much kindness. We visited the Murano Glass Factory in Venice and learnt how they made these beautiful and intricate glass pieces. Swipe left to see how the kind master made an elegant glass horse for Linus in under two minutes. The end product is so hot that the paper burst into flames the moment it came in contact with the glass. Our Justin Timberlake lookalike guide explained that they can only make two pieces of vase a day due to laborious process and only the better one will be sold to customers. The two small drinking glasses he held in the picture were made entirely from broken pieces of glass. I love this recycling concept so much so guess who spent some money at this place 🤣. We decided at the very last minute to check out the reindeers and with rather vague and loosely translated English directions, we made our way there. We drove up the mountains and walked away from the main road. It was a little nerve wrecking at first, as it was quite foggy and I wondered if we would step on a frozen lake covered by snow. Thankfully, the guide met us mid way and cleared a path for us. Still, it was very slippery and walking without falling took some effort for a tropical country girl like me. In fact, Linus fell flat and rolled on the snow a couple of times until Ming carried him on his shoulders. But we were rewarded with such picturesque views. It was beauty all around and breathing in the crisp and fresh air, with the cool wind caressing my face, I am reminded of how nature is God’s masterpiece and how beautiful His creation is. The reindeers were sweet and gentle with us. Photo dumping a few pictures from our last trip before we embark on another adventure. This was the first long trip (slightly more than two weeks) we’ve ever had with Linus and he adapted very well to the weather, time difference, food and the traveling from one city to the next. Even though I’ve been to a few of these places before, I find myself experiencing them anew, as I observed from a fresh perspective, read up and explained information to Linus. I was put out of my comfort zone slightly in taking all the roller coaster rides and taking a what seems like never ending bashing sand dunes ride. I’m so proud of Linus who learnt the performance, made his shadow puppets theatre and came up with his own story within a week (instead of 3) because we went for our holiday.
