I don't think people understand what happened when Sunny was fighting Basil. Basil didn't try to commit a "double suicide", he had a psychotic break and genuinely thought that Something was trying to harm Sunny, so he tried to protect him by killing it. He didn't realize that in the process he was actually harming Sunny and I'm sure he regrets taking Sunny's eye out a lot. The fact that people think Basil could just fucking kill his best friend out of nowhere makes me so mad. Sunny's death is like the last thing he wants.

           “So… why are we here?” Aubrey asks. She, Sunny, and Basil were all in Basil’s room. For some reason, Sunny had locked the door. Which was kind of suspicious, honestly, two boys locking a girl into one of their rooms. But she was pretty sure that she could take both of them at once if it came to that, and neither seemed the type to do anything bad… on purpose. She stared at Sunny, who had called them here.

          The boy had the same neutral look he usually wore which did nothing to prepare her or Basil for what came out of his mouth next, “I want a baby.”

           Basil stammered incoherently, getting redder and redder until he apparently just gave up, staring dumbfounded at his friend.

It took a few seconds for the words to sink into Aubrey’s brain, and a few seconds after that to convince herself that Sunny had actually said that. The second it fully registered, she grabbed a pillow from Basil’s bed and hurled it full-pelt at the boy. “SUNNY WHAT THE FUCK.”

Sunny stumbled a bit as the pillow hit him, but caught it as it fell off his face, staring at the door behind him. He made the “sshhhhhh” motion, looking around like he would when he’d try to sneak extra cookies from Mari and Hero.

“What?! No! Why?! And why at Basil’s house?!” Aubrey said. God was Sunny hitting on her? Argh, how did she used to have a crush on this moron?!

“Um… Yeah… I mean, uh…? Why am I here?” Basil says, “It, uh… Sunny?”

“Shhhhh…” Sunny hisses, getting in close and sitting in front of them, pulling out a sketchbook and setting it between them all, “Here’s the plan… I’ll say I’m getting a baby doll from the store.” He sketched a little doodle of himself and drew a rectangle labeled “Othermart,” making a little line to show himself going inside. “For Sally. Basil. You get the cabbage seeds from Fix-It and whatever we need to plant this.”

“Um, wait… What?” Basil said. What did cabbage have to do with babies?

Sunny continued, undeterred “Aubrey, I don’t know when you bleed, but we’ll need one of those cup things.” He did a little doodle of Aubrey holding a cup of red… as in an actual cup. Like a wine glass.

“Sunny what the fuck.” What was even happening right now? Was she having a fever dream? It’d make more sense than anything else going on. She pinched herself, ow, nope, somehow this is happening.

“I can come over and sneak it out for you if you need. No one will question Basil planting things, but maybe we should do it at Aubrey’s house just in case. Or maybe the secret hangout spot? We can figure it out.” He was sketching up vague ideas of places, trying to find the best place to plant apparently secret cabbages?

“Sunny what the fuck is happening right now,” Aubrey says, rubbing the bridge of her nose and gesturing helplessly to the drawings. Mikhael was easier to deal with than this…

Basil seemed equally lost, opening and closing his mouth, brows furrowed, until he finally thought to ask, “Sunny? Where exactly do you think babies come from?”

Sunny tilted his head, “Is… this not?”

“No! Why would you…? No!” Aubrey says, chuckling at the sheer absurdity. “Sunny, Sunny please. I have to know how you think this relates to babies.” She’s desperate for the thought process here.

“I kind of want to know too? I’m so confused…” Basil says. “What does cabbage have to do with babies? Or blood???”

Sunny looked up at the ceiling, trying to dredge memories together, “When I was little, I saw something bloody in the bathroom after Mari came out.” He’d cried. A lot. Of course he had, he’d thought his sister was dying! It was a lot of blood, and even he knew that blood wasn’t supposed to be in “pee.” Apparently he’d been shaken enough to get some details… “Mom said that was a thing that happened to girls when they got big. It was to prepare for making babies. So blood makes babies, right? I wasn’t sure how, but I asked Kel’s parents where Sally came from, and they said a cabbage patch. That when two people love each other, they can go find a baby in the cabbage, though I think the dad has to pee on it?

“But I’m pretty sure you have to have a marriage license to have a baby legally. That’s why only girls and boys get married, because the boy has to pee on it too. You have to get a baby doll from high school and show you can take care of it, then plant it with the cabbage and use the blood and pee.” He nodded definitively like somehow this made sense.

Aubrey stared at him, dumbfounded by the sheer amount of wrong. How does someone even get that bad of a misconception? How?! “Nope. I’m done.” She went to go hit her head against the window a few times, brain short-circuited by the sheer amount of errors. Aubrey.exe is not responding, please try again later.

Basil, on the other hand, had burst out into helpless laughter the second Sunny finished, going onto his bed and trying to muffle himself in the pillow as he laughed until his sides hurt, kicking his feet like he was being tickled.

Sunny scooted to the corner of the room to sulk. They were making fun of him…

Eventually Aubrey and Basil got a handle on themselves, Aubrey saying with a sigh, “Dude, we’ve gotta get you some sex ed.”

Basil wiped away tears of laughter, still grinning, and asked, “Why do you want a baby all of the sudden anyways?”

“Sally’s probably lonely. She’s so little, and we’re big. So if I have a baby, she can have a friend her sized,” Sunny says.

Aubrey feels her insides turning to mush. “Dangit, you’re too freaking cute…” She goes to hug him, giving a pat on the back, “But pretty sure babies are fine with everyone being bigger than them. Even so, what were you gonna do, just give Kel’s parents a new baby and hope they were down for it?”

“… I didn’t think this through,” Sunny says.

“No shit!” Aubrey snorts.

Basil giggles, scooting closer and wrapping Sunny in a hug, “You’re so sweet. I’m sure she’d appreciate it if she was old enough to understand! But, um… Aubrey… We should probably tell him where babies come from…”

Aubrey sighs, “I can’t believe I’m doing this… Gimme that.” She grabbed the sketchbook with an evil grin, “We’re doing this shit right! Get ready Sunny, welcome to CRASH COURSE IN SEX ED!”

Basil immediately regretted his life choices. Though to be fair, it wasn’t anywhere close to the most traumatizing thing he or Sunny had seen.

do you have any headcanons for Sally? I haven't seen much aout her in the fandom, at least on tumblr. I feel like she would take a lot after Kel growing up. (or if you don't have any, maybe hc for any other of the npc relatives?)

Okay this is actually so cute and I really like it! I haven’t but now I will (fair warning a lot of this is based off of my own experiences with little ones)

I see Sally growing up in a very different household because essentially she’s kind of an only child. Her brothers (especially Hero) function a lot more as pseudo parent types then traditional older brother figures, and Basil sunny and Aubrey all also fill that role. Sally loves her weird amazing family, but it’s hard to be the baby of that kind of family for sure.

She definitely has a rebellious phase that aubrey tries to help her through, but Sally won’t listen to her and just has to learn for herself who she wants to be

Okay but before teenage delinquent Sally we have baby Sally. Little Sally imprints on her brothers specifically and it drives her mother c r a z y. Toddlers and little kids pick one or two people they think are like…the epitome of human, and Sally picks Hero and Kel. She wants to spend all her time with them, she demands to sit on one of their laps at dinner, everything

She knows that Hero leaves for long times and comes back sporadically, and so from ages of 1.5-3 every single time Hero leaves the house for anything she will throw a minor fit. Then after Kel goes to college she starts to do the same for him

It gets to the point where Kel and Hero have to sneak out of the house. One of the funniest memories they love to tease Sally with is when they tried to go out while she was upstairs and they heard her screaming “No Leave! No LEAVE” over and over from upstairs while she scooted down the stairs on her butt. Teenage Sally hates this story and her brothers love to embarrass her with it

Sally also grows up thinking Aubrey is too cool. She starts to wear bows in her hair once she starts kindergarten and she refuses to stop till she gets to be 13 or 14

Aubrey is personally very sad when Sally stops wearing bows, but she drags out her old bomber jacket and gives it to Sally to wear. Sally loves the “vintage” look and pairs it with a pair of Kels old high tops. Speaking of Kels old high tops, Sally wears almost exclusively hand me downs.

Her mom so wanted a little girl that was very much a girly girl, and Sally does enjoy a lot of femininity and she isn’t afraid to rock a look, but Sally is a tomboy for sure.

She grows like a weed and plays basketball because that’s what Kel used to do with her when she was little. The only reason Sally never really went full Delinquent like aubrey did was she needed to keep good grades to stay on the basketball team

Older Siblings’ Friends are Cute, Okay?

Some things don’t change... or do they? Sunny has the strangest ideas about the world, Sally is feeding him, and Hero learns something he would rather not know... Enjoooooy!!!

          Hero was visiting for the weekend, and so was Sunny! Like usual, he was staying at Kel’s house, something Kel was perfectly fine with. They were watching a cheesy comedy movie together, only half paying attention, and eating some cheesy popcorn and chocolate pretzels Hero had made for everyone. The couch was full, so Sunny and Kel sat on the ground, sharing snacks. Sunny got full pretty quickly, but, well…

           “Aaaaaaaa!” Sally said, holding her mouth open as she tried to feed Sunny yet another freaking pretzel. Sunny had had enough pretzels, thank you, and was looking to the others for help.

          Kel snorted, “C’mon dude, you gotta eat it! That’s, like, the rule of babies. Can’t say no when they try to give you something.”

          Sally went, “AAAAAAAA!” louder, opening her little mouth as wide as she could and staring intently at Sunny until he gave up and opened his mouth, letting her put the pretzel inside.

           Kel’s mom chuckled, “I would do that to get her to open her mouth for a bottle, seems she’s learned it as well!”

          Sunny had barely swallowed his current pretzel before another was being offered to him. He tried to move his face away, looking very much like a reticent baby himself, but she just started stepping on him to try to get the pretzel in. Sunny looked up to Hero and his parents for help, but they were all laughing at him. Traitors. How dare they!

          Hero was the first to take pity on him and actually help, scooping up his little sister, “I’ll take some pretzels!” He held his mouth open, but Sally huffed and pointed to Sunny. “Noooo… Sally, why! I want pretzels too…” He put on fake sad eyes, hoping to tempt her, but he just got smacked in the nose as she tried to wiggle out.

           Kel snickered, this was funnier than the movie! “Why do you wanna feed Sunny so bad anyways?”

          “She has a crush on me,” Sunny said. He sighed and took Sally, holding her in place far enough away that he couldn’t get fed. “Sally, you’re very cute, but I’m too old for you. You’re a baby.”

            “Wait, what?” Kel says. “Um… Sunny, babies and little kids just like feeding people and stuff. I don’t think it means anything.”

           “Yeah, you’d do that to me all the time, remember?” Hero says.

          Sunny nodded, but apparently gave up enough to take the pretzel from Sally. Sally clapped in joy, giving him a few moments of respite before she went to get another. Insatiable child. “No more…”

           “Wait, Sunny used to feed you?” Kel says. “Sunnyyyyyyyy… Why didn’t you ever feed meeeeeee?”

           “I didn’t have a crush on you,” Sunny said.

          “Erm… wait… Sunny, did…? You know I was dating Mari, right?” Hero said, staring wide-eyed at Sunny. “Though, I guess I just- I kind of wondered why you weren’t jealous. A lot of kids are, when- But?”

          Their parents were absolutely laughing at the mixture of bafflement and blush on Hero’s face as the awful truth dawned upon him.

           “So handsome even the boys wanted him!” his dad said.

           “Who wouldn’t?” his mom said.            “Sunny. Didn’t you meet Hero when you were, like, a baby?”

           “Yes.”

           Kel stares at him, “… Sunny? How long did you have a crush on Hero?”

           Sunny shrugs, “Always?”

          Hero was having a small existential crisis, “I thought you were just being a kid when you said you wanted to marry me…”

           Sally screamed, not content with the fact that people were not paying attention to her.

           Sunny sighed, pulling her into his lap for a hug and smiling ever so slightly, “You’re so needy. Shameless flirt.”

           Sally was blowing spit bubbles while staring up at him.

           “I don’t like you that way. You’re very cute, and are apparently a literal baby, but not my baby, do you understand?”

           “Bwabwabwa.”

           “Good. Things couldn’t work out between us, and I promise you can do much better.”

           Hero whispered, “(Kel, what is even happening?)”

           “Eeeeee? Memememememe.”

          “I know your older siblings’ friends can be quite charming, but I’m not really dating right now in general. Working stuff out in therapy, for starters.”

           “(Hero I have no freaking clue, I think that’s just how they talk to each other.)”

           Sally huffed, crossing her arms, and shook her head, “Nanananaaaaa! NAAAAAA!”

          “I know, I know. But you’ll find someone else, if you want. I know I look younger than I am, but really, it’d just be weird.”

           “(And having a crush on your sister’s boyfriend isn’t?)” Hero said.

           “(Shhhh, Hero, they’re having a moment.)” Kel stuffed more popcorn in his mouth.

           Sally got a really focused, upset face for a few seconds, straining and turning a bright shade of red…

           Ew.

          Sunny scrunched his nose, picking her up and handing her to Hero, “She pooped.” He turned to Sunny, “Maybe talk to me when you can use a toilet.” And then left to get something to wash down all the pretzels with.

           Hero stared dumbfounded at Sally who was looking at him expectantly. Sunny used to have a crush on him? Sunny thought Sally had a crush on him? He was aware that babies couldn’t have crushes… could they? Little kids could have crushes, right? So maybe babies could as well? He wasn’t sure he liked the implications of that, but at least Sunny was setting firm boundaries and talking this out in a healthy way- What is he thinking, this is a baby. Also… “Wait, Sunny, did you ever stop having a crush on me?”

           “She needs her diaper changed,” Sunny said as he brought the cup of soda back.

           “That’s… not an answer.”

           Sunny was never particularly expressive, but somehow managed to perfectly pull off that look Mari would get when teasing him. (And in reality, realized it was weird by now, but he could still tease him. It’s family tradition!)

           “I’m… going to change this,” Hero said.

          “Bye bye!” Sally said, waving to Sunny and blowing him a kiss as she was carried to the bathroom. Hero was pretty sure it was completely innocent, but a shudder ran down his spine anyways.

Everyone’s Baby

Hello Tumblrites! Guess who’s back on their silliness? It’s me, of course XD As before, I am MaddieMuse and this is an AO3 repost, so if it looks familiar, that’s why.

This one’s shorter than the previous fic in the Sunny Baby Fluff Saga, but still just silly and kinda sweet. Mostly silly.

           They were having a little picnic in their hangout spot. It seemed the full stomach and warm weather was enough to do Sunny in: he’d fallen asleep on Basil’s legs. Sally was sitting on the grass, dressed in a tiny leather jacket and sunglasses for kids courtesy of Aubrey. Sally then started chewing on the sunglasses and Aubrey huffed, amused, “Hey baby, those aren’t for eating you know.” She tried to take the sunglasses back, but Sally slapped her hand, glaring.

           For a few seconds, Aubrey looked dumbfounded, then ended up laughing, shaking her head as she took the sunglasses and put them on, “Pffft, look at you, just getting a jacket and already a delinquent.”

           “Hey, don’t teach my sister to be part of the scooter gang!” Kel huffed.

          Aubrey, immediately taking this as a challenge, grinned and said, “Hey baby! Wanna be part of the scooter gang? Give me a yeah!”

           Sally threw her arms up and gleefully shrieked, “EEEEEAAAAAAAA!!!” then immediately fell down onto her back.

           “Close enough!”

          Basil giggles, “That might actually be cute though? Imagine her going around on a tiny scooter. Like the colorful ones for little kids!”

           “No way!” Kel says, “She’s too little! Maybe a tricycle? Or one of those four-wheeled bikes? A… quartcycle???”

           “That’s dumb. Only the leader gets a bike,” Aubrey says.

           “Then I think the baby’s outranking you,” Kel says. “Isn’t that right baby?”

          Sally gave no answers as she was more interested in trying to get to Sunny again, apparently not content with the fact that he was asleep. However, there was a problem: she had approached from behind Basil, so Basil was in the way. Clearly the solution is to grab Basil to stand up on, then scream, pointing at Sunny.

           Kel snorted, scooping her up, “Do you wanna play with Sunny more, Sally? He’s sleeping now, baby girl. Let him get some rest, yeah?”

           Sally let out an exasperated yell, waving all her limbs around in sheer baby anger.

           “I know, I know. You two are interested in each other, but he needs naps too.”

           Aubrey snorted, “You tell Kel, sister. Tell him!”

           And Basil wasn’t helping, just laughing at them, “Aaaw, she’s so cute! Have they been getting along? I guess he is the baby of the group…”

          “Snrk…” Kel stifles a laugh at the memory of earlier in Sunny’s visit, “Oh yeah… Oh geez, guys, you’ve gotta hear this. I guess Sunny had never seen a baby before? Or at least didn’t seem to know what one was? He thought ‘baby’ was just something you called a crush, so I guess he thought we were all hitting on him???”

           Both Basil and Aubrey choked, Aubrey looking like she might murder someone (though maybe that was just her face… or attitude… or everything) and Basil a bright shade of red, not at all helped by Sunny literally being in his lap. How was the boy not waking up? Sunny was a champ in the sleeping Olympics, that’s why.

           Kel laughed at first, but it slowly dawned… “Uh… wait… Did you guys also used have crushes on him too as a kid?”

           Basil squeaked, “Um… ‘used to?’”

           While Aubrey yelled, “WHAT DO YOU MEAN ALSO?!”

          Welp. This was a lot to unpack, but Kel decides to just throw away the whole metaphorical suitcase, handing Sally to Aubrey and shouting, “HEY GUYS I’M GONNA DO A DIVE OFF OF THE STATUE!”

           Aubrey yelled, “DO A FLIP!” completely overwhelming Basil’s hurried shout of, “Wait Kel no! It’s like sixty degrees out here!”

            Mistakes were made, but thankfully Kel was fast enough to run home really quickly to get a dry pair of clothes. Sunny was slightly confused by the outfit change when he eventually woke up, but was distracted by finding a blade of grass the perfect length to pretend he had a green streak in his hair. Between that, Aubrey, and Sally’s leather baby jacket, Basil got a few photos of “The Delinquent Club.” On that day, Aubrey had corrupted two youth, apparently.

Like I said, kinda short this time. But hey, as always, if you like what I do, maybe throw some shellfish my way (or, y’know, Buy Me a Kofi) since I’m starting to get sick of mugging Sprout Moles.

Sunny, Do You Even Know What a Baby Is?

If this is looking a little familiar to some of you, yeah, it’s me, MaddieMuse on AO3. I have my own permission to put this here of course lol. You can see more of this series over there, but I plan to release it bit by bit on here too. Now then, on with the show!

         Sunny was visiting! They’d had some time to hang out at the park all together, had a little picnic in the old secret spot, and Aubrey and Kel had had a coffee/orange joe drinking contest (Aubrey lost despite drinking the coffee), but it was getting late. Given how their last visit had gone, they still weren’t sure about Basil and Sunny staying the night together, so Kel had volunteered to let Sunny share his room – Hero’s bed was empty since college was in session.

           They opened the door and Kel’s mom greeted them, “Welcome back Kel! And Sunny, so good to see you!”

           Sunny nodded in acknowledgement, giving a little wave.

           “Did you boys have fun?”

          “Sure did!” Kel yelled, “I beat Aubrey in a drinking contest.” Sunny elbowed him in the side, “Ow- what the heck…” His mom was looking at him in a mix of horror, confusion, and mounting anger. Why would she… Oh. Oh. “A coffee drinking contest! No alcohol involved, I promise!”

           “Orange Joe,” Sunny said, pointing to Kel.

           “What? It’s a type of coffee! I think…”

           Sunny shook his head.

          “Hey, c’mon dude! Yeah it is! Sure it’s got sugar, but lots of people put sugar in their coffees! And flavorings and creams and stuff too. It’s just, like, orange flavored, sweet coffee!”

           Sunny scrunched up his nose, quickly shaking his head no.

          “Eh, more for me!” Kel said, “Hey Mom, I’m gonna help Sunny get settled in upstairs. We’ll be down in time for dinner for sure though! See ya!” He took Sunny’s hand and started heading for his room, but a noise came from his parents’ room. “Oop, Sally must be awake!”

            Sunny tilted his head, his good eye staring at the doorway. Without a word, he went in there. Sally was in her crib, trying to stand herself up and grinning at them. Sunny’s eye was wide as he went over, staring at her.

           “Aaaaw, you saying hi to Sally? She’s pretty cute, isn’t she?” Kel says, joining him. She’d grown quite a bit since Sunny had last seen her, though he supposes Sunny never actually got to do anything with her in that time with everything else going on… She was asleep last time he came over, after all.

           Sunny peered quizzically at the crib, eye narrowed and brows furrowed questioningly. He walked all the way around the crib, feeling up the sides and the handle bars, leaning down so his face was at tummy-level with Sally, and trying to stick his hands through the bars – his arms didn’t fit.

           “Uh… Sunny… Whatcha doing dude?” Kel said.

           “… why is she in jail?”

          Kel choked on a laugh, shaking his head, “Dude. Dude no. That’s a crib. It’s so she doesn’t climb out and hurt herself.”

           “Why?”

          “Uh… so she doesn’t climb out and hurt herself? Like, falling hurts dude. I know it’s not a long distance for us, but she’s kinda tiny.”

           Sunny shakes his head, “Why climb out?”

           Uh… Kel wasn’t entirely sure how he was supposed to answer that. “Because… baby?”

          Sunny pointed to himself and quirked his head in a silent question. Kel was confused until he remembered that they used to call Sunny the baby of the group. Did- Did Sunny think “baby” was his title or something…? “I mean, yeah, you’re the youngest of the group, but Sally’s younger than you, y’know?”

           Sunny just looked even more confused.

          “Sunny, what do you think ‘baby’ means?” Kel wasn’t sure if this was hilarious, worrying, or just plain sad. Of course, it’s possible Sunny was just pulling his leg, but thinking back, they didn’t really play with younger kids very often, did they? Most people weren’t asking twelve year olds to babysit. Sure, they’d see them occasionally at the park, but Sunny spent most of that time either on the swings or in the big yellow cat. Then he spent four years inside, so not like he was learning much there… Did Sunny actually not know what a baby was???

          “’Baby’ is just…” Sunny took a few seconds, tongue slightly poking out of his mouth in concentration, “Baby is… For crushes.”

           Kel chokes on his own spit, “Sunny where’d  you get that idea?!”

           “Hero and Mari.”

          Right, right… Hero would call her “baby” or “babe” teasingly, for a while. It didn’t stick and was awkward as hell, but…

           “Wait, we all called you the baby of the group.”

           “Yes.”

          “…??? Uh… Dude. I don’t think literally everyone had a crush on you???” He was desperately trying to remember if Mari ever called him her “baby brother” but all he could remember was “little brother,” so he couldn’t use that as a counter example…

           “But I’m baby.”

          Kel makes a noise that should not be possible with human mouths then goes to scream into a pillow. Sally laughs at him, traitor!

          By the time he gets up, thankfully Sunny has been distracted from what he apparently thought was his entire friend group simultaneously hitting on him – a can of worms they’d have to clear up before Sunny left again – by Sally grabbing at his hand. Sunny’s one eye was open over-wide in alarm as his fingers were held hostage.

           Kel couldn’t help but laugh, “Dude. Your face-“ Pfffft hahahahaha!

           “Help.”

          The sheer helplessness and confused fear in his voice over a baby holding onto his hand was enough to send Kel into a laughing fit on the floor. This was too good. Sunny was pouting at him now, only making him laugh even harder.

           Sunny huffed through his nose, pout turning to a glare, and apparently sensing that Sally wasn’t a threat, he picked her up under the armpits like a cat or a ferret. She apparently didn’t like that, fussing and glaring back at him. In response, Sunny set her down and picked her up by the ankle instead.

          “ACK- SUNNY NO!” Kel rushed over, gently picking her up correctly and putting her back in the crib, though she had a huge grin on her face… “You can’t hold a baby by the ankle!” Or could they…? Kel looked at her and carefully picked her up by the other ankle, slowly lifting and watching for signs of distress, but she just went, “wheeeeee!” and let him. Kel snorted, “I stand corrected! Heh, guess I’m being a bit over-cautious. Kids love being treated like sacks of potatoes!” He hoisted her up onto his shoulder, albeit gently. Her little fingers tugged at his hair as he tried to eat his ear – gosh she was so freaking precious.

           Sunny apparently didn’t agree, gently moving her head, “No eating Kel…”

           Kel snorted, “Pffft, it’s fine. She’s just a baby! She doesn’t know any better.”

          Sunny got a funny look on his face, but before Kel could question it, Sunny was also trying to eat his ear?!?!? “DUDE NO. Heh… no. Just… You’re the group baby, but you aren’t a baby.”

           Sunny tilted his head at him again, then huffed, poking Sally then going to sulk in the corner. Was Sunny jealous? Of a baby?

          “Oh geez… Saaaaaalllyyyyy, you made Sunny jealous. Go say sorry!” He put her on the ground near Sunny, giving a little push. She looked towards her big brother, but seemed to get the hint, crawling towards Sunny with the face of determination only a baby could make. Her hands met Sunny’s legs and she stood up, getting overly close and staring at him. Sunny blinked owlishly, leaning away, but Sally just leaned closer, so Sunny leaned away, and Sally closer, and on and on until Sunny was on the ground with Sally on his chest, her hands in his hair.

           Sunny sent a pleading look to Kel, “Help.”

          Kel laughed and desperately wished Basil was here with his camera, “Dude, help, this is amazing. Pffft- Sunny, it’s okay, snrk, it’s alright! She’s just a little kid! She ain’t gonna hurt-”

           “Ow!”

          Spoke too soon, Sally had pulled his hair, making Sunny jolt and sending her tumbling to the floor. Sally, surprised, started crying, reaching towards her big brother.

           “Aw… C’mere kiddo,” Kel said, picking up Sally in one arm and bouncing her. With his free hand, he helped Sunny get up, “Sorry. You, uh… Really don’t know what a baby is, huh? Gosh… Well, Sally, say Hi to Sunny, okay? He’s an old friend of mine, and he’s a little confused, but he’s pretty nice.”

          Sally sniffled away the last of her tears, turning to look at Sunny and waving her hands around like she was at a rave, “HIIIII!”

           Sunny jolted, surprised by the yelling, but quietly added, “hi…”

          Sally screeched happily, breaking into a grin – Sunny had replied to her! She made that happen, yes she did! Kel’s chest felt all too warm and fuzzy, and the cuteness hitting right in the heart.

          Sunny looked at them both for a while, expression hard to read, but a small smile made its way onto his face as he nodded, “Cute.” He went forward and hugged them both, though backed up, shaking his head in disgust as Sally gave one of her patented, open-mouthed baby “kisses” that was more like a bite without teeth. The sheer betrayal and disgust on Sunny’s face threatened to make Kel double over again, though at this point it felt like he was already worked into such a giggle fit that literally anything would make him laugh.

           “Oh geez, it’s alright Sunny! That’s just how she gives kisses, watch!” He kissed Sally’s cheek and she tackled his face with her mouth in reply, both of them grinning and laughing as Kel was coated in drool.

          Sunny raised an eyebrow and came back, slowly getting closer, and gently nommed her cheek. Sally gasped, looking outright offended and crossing her little arms.

           Kel snorted, “Turnabout’s fair play kiddo!”

           “Abaaa!” She shouted.

           “Abaaa?” Sunny mimicked.

           “AAAAA! BAAAYEEEAAA!”

           Sunny nodded sagely, giving her a pat, “I understand.”

           “Heh, you speak baby?”

           “Of course, I am baby.” His fingers ran through Sally’s soft hair as she babbled, Sunny nodding along and occasionally saying a word or two himself, but it was mostly Sally doing the talking.

           But eventually it was time for dinner and, “Welp… Uh, guess we didn’t get you set up, but this is way more fun. But yeah…” Maybe his parents would help explain to Sunny what a baby was…

           Sunny sat down at the table with all of them and thankfully no one had started eating yet or they might’ve choked when Sunny asked, “Where’d the baby come from?”

           Kel wished he’d let Sunny stay at Basil’s.
