It’s a joke, it’s a joke, it’s a joke, Tommy repeats to himself. And yet, his mind is running on overdrive - convincing itself that no matter how jokingly Wilbur says it, it must have some degree of truth to it. It doesn’t, Tommy reminds himself, Wilbur makes himself the butt of the joke so often, this is no different. And yet, there’s an ache deep in the pit of his stomach, an unease enveloping his soul - it says: your brother is crying for help.
Or: Wilbur makes one too many jokes about his ‘bad relationship’ with his parents, and Tommy’s concerned.

Tommy clears his throat so as not to laugh, and hums, buying himself some time. “A few people; Schlatt is a big one - I used to watch him a lot, same with Wil. Technoblade is every Minecraft player’s idol, and so’s CaptainSparklez. Hm, who else?” He glances at discord, giggling at the messages.
Dream: I WILL LEAVE IF YOU DONT SAY ME
He rolls his eyes, “And, if I’m forced to admit it, I guess Dream was a bit of an inspiration. Or whatever.”
Or: the 6 times Tommy saves someone from a VC, and the 1 times someone saves him.
Tommy thought he was a picky eater and grows up with a restrictive food intake (which his parents did not support) only to find out later that his pickiness may be an actual problem.
"Yeah, I fucking know, Wil. I’m broken. And while a broken clock may be right twice a day, at the end of that fucking day, you throw it out because it simply doesn’t work. I’m that clock, Wil. I just don’t fit.“

“You’re so good,” Phil murmurs into his hair, “so bright and strong. Like a star, a little fallen star landed right on my doorstep.” He tucks his nose into Wilbur’s hair and whispers, like a secret, “my little wish come true.”
Wilbur trembles. He feels lost, adrift, and yet all too grounded. Everything is too real to be real. It has to be fake. The words, the gentle touches. All of that will end if–when?–Phil and Techno find Tommy.
He freezes. “Where’s Techno?”
Phil’s arms tighten around him, “he’s out looking for your brother.”

That was Phil’s first thought upon opening his front door—that the kid on his front porch was so small. Too small for the warnings heaped upon Phil by the state, warnings of wild magic and dangerous words, of the treachery and trickery that came hand in hand with the legends of the fae. Phil had known many fae over the course of his lifetime, both kind and cruel. The kid on the front porch just looked like a kid.
Or: Phil signs up to be a foster parent and ends up just stacking broken kids in his house.
Some instinctual part of Tommy, whether it came with the wings or the wars, tells him if he doesn’t get help he will die. He knows it like he knows the sun rises and he knows he’ll wake up drowning. It’s a blur how this thought process leads him to Technoblade’s cabin, especially considering the man hates him, but at least he won’t die alone.
Tommy gets wings in exile and nearly loses them too, so he flees from Logstedshire to Technoblade’s cabin for help.

Phil, excited and happy, says, “When we get together, we’re going drinking for sure.”
Tommy’s unsure what else he’s supposed to feel other than sidelined. “But then- I can’t go, can I?”
Phil’s smile is absent-minded—too distracted by the topic they were talking about to notice Tommy’s careful tone. “It was more directed at Wil and Techno, Tommy.”
“Okay.” He physically pulls back, wondering if he can curl up on his chair—knees to his chest—without looking dejected.
Or: 5 times Tommy didn’t think he was as important to the others in SBI, and the 1 time they made sure he knew he was.
