Yoongi gets sick. Luckily, super-caring-and-amazing-pro doctor-boyfriend Jungkook is here to help.Â

âYoongi hyung, itâs time to get uuup!â
âYoongles? Are you dead?â
Huh. This was going to be more difficult then it seemed. But Jungkook had a mission, bestowed on him by none other than the great gods above (Namjoon hyung, mostly). A mission to wake Yoongi up. Because, you see, they had to be on set for an interview in about 45 minutes, which meant they needed to be leaving in about 15 minutes. Which meant Yoongi needed to be awake.
After a few minutes of discussion over the breakfast of cereal and toast that Yoongi wasnât attending, it was decided that Jungkook should go wake him up. (Seokjin hyung said it was because him and Yoongi were dating, which meant Yoongi was more likely to listen to him. Jungkook said it was because Seokjin was a pussy and was afraid of the mean right hook a just awoken Yoongi could swing, but Jungkook went anyway. What was he supposed to do, say no to seeing Yoongiâs cute little nose scrunch when he wakes up?). Yet, here he was, absolutely nose scrunch deprived. Because a crucial part to seeing Yoongi up was, well, Yoongi waking up. And Yoongi wasnât doing that, so here Jungkook stood. Standing over Yoongi, curled up under a mound of blankets.
âBabyyyyyâŠ. please? Pwease? Pwetty pwease will you wake up?â
Jungkook was pulling out all the stops. Obnoxious baby voice, sickly sweet pout â one way or another Yoongi was waking up, whether it was because of the noise or out of annoyance.
Aha! At long last, a semblance of success! Yoongi had spoken! Well, while it wasnât quite words, it was certainly noise. But as Yoongi began to wake up and peel the various blankets, Jungkook soon realised the reason for his reluctance. Because Yoongi, for lack of a better word to describe his cuddly, adorable, cute boyfriend, looked like shit. His eyes were red and puffy, his cute chubby cheeks were flushed, and his nose was red and runny. To his credit, it took Jungkook all of 2 seconds to get over his initial shock and switch straight into âsuper-caring-and-amazing-pro doctor-boyfriendâ mode. He dropped to his knees besides Yoongiâs bed and went to feel his forehead. Yoongi had other ideas. He batted away Jungkookâs hand, mumbling something unsavoury about mother hens and overprotective boyfriends. âJungkook-ah, itâs not that bad. Itâs just a small cold, really, Iâll be fi-â. Whatever Yoongiâs next words were, they were cut off by a violent sneezing fit into the tissues Jungkook had grabbed from the bedside table. (Thatâs right, heâs the one and only âsuper-caring-and-amazing-pro doctorâ boyfriend).
âNo, Yoongi. I donât know if youâve seen yourself but like, look at you! Thereâs no way youâre going to any interviewâ or anywhere, in fact, besides this bed. Not as long as I, your super-caring-and-amazing-pro doctor boyfriend is here to stop you.â âMy super-caringâŠwhat? Anyway, you worry too much. Iâll be fine, truly! Just a dab of concealer and no-one will notice.â Yoongi made a good point. It was unfortunate, then, that his good point was immediately ruined by the fact that when he sat up to drive his point home, his head started spinning and he collapsed into Jungkookâs waiting arms. âI think my point has proven.â He mumbled weakly into Jungkookâs chest, causing the younger to laugh. âYeah, youâre not going anywhere. Donât worry, Yoongles. We all have sick days. You lie back down, and Iâll go talk to everyone else. Be back soon.â He patted Yoongiâs head and manoeuvred him back into a lying down position, kissing him on the forehead before standing and leaving.

Yoongi hated being sick. He hated having a headache. He hated feeling sore in all his joints. He hated feeling so weak and frail. And he hated people going out of their way to care for him. Which is exactly what Jungkook was doing. He had been up and down constantly, getting Yoongi more water, more tea, another blanket, checking his temperature, and pretty much giving Yoongi another headache with how much heâs fretting. He figures maybe he should be more sympathetic â to be fair to him, they havenât been dating for that long, only pining for years, and this is the first time that Yoongi has gotten sick since theyâve started dating. So, maybe itâs understandable that Jungkook is stressed, maybe that Jungkook sees it as a kind of âtestâ or whatever, to prove to someone (maybe himself?) that he can, actually, look after Yoongi. Hell or high water. Or nasty virus. But Yoongi is sick. So, he doesnât have to be understanding. Or sympathetic. And sure, maybe Yoongi did like to be taken care of in ah...otherareas (but he wasnât a pillow princess! No matter what Jungkook said), this was getting ridiculous.
After Jungkook has made his fifth round out of Yoongiâs room and back again (no, hyung, I swear! Tae always has the fluffiest blankets, so Iâll just get you one of his, so you can be super comfortable!) Yoongi put his foot down. Well, not really. Since Jungkook had told him to lie down, he hadnât got back up. âJungkook-ah. Seriously. I know you want to look after me but â come on! I know that Namjoon told you that you could stay only if you keep an eye on me and make sure I donât get worse, but seriously. Sit down.â
âBut hyung, what if you get uncomfortable or start to feel worse, and I know youâre too stubborn to say anything-â
âThanks, Kook.â
âAnd then you just end up feeling worse and I fail in my duty as a super-caring-and-amazing-pro doctor boyfriend!â
âKook. Kookie. Baby. Calm the fuck down.â
That, at least, got Jungkook to stop. Apparently, thereâs something more intimidating about being told what to do when the order is issued by a small, grumpy man lying in bed. Yoongi continued, âif you really wanna help me and be my super-caring and whatever boyfriend, then calm down, lie with me, put on that stupid drama you got me addicted to, and cuddle with me until my stupid immune system getâs better at itâs job. Actually, donât cuddle with me. I think the managers might kill me if I get you sick too.â
Jungkook laughed at the last statement, already moving to get Yoongiâs laptop from where it was charging on the desk. âNot a chance, hyung. You asked me to cuddle with you, and thereâs no taking it back. I wonât get sick, anyway. Not me. I eat oranges. My vitamin C levels are so high, theyâll protect you too. But only if weâre touching so, the cuddling is necessary, in fact.â Jungkook heard the soft laughter from the bed behind him and smiled, glad that even though Yoongi was feeling bad, he still had an intact sense of humour. He smiled again as Yoongi immediately latched onto him as soon as he lay down, resting his head on Jungkookâs chest. As the opening scenes of the episode began to play, he felt Yoongiâs breathing slow and smiled softly once more as he ran his fingers through Yoongiâs hair.

Jungkook was not smiling anymore. Oh no. Jungkook was trying to, as quiet as possibly, curse the kitchen, the universe, and the creator of chicken noodle soup for making it so damn difficult. He thought it would be easy. He thought it would be a nice gesture for Yoongi. He had fallen asleep, sometime in the third or fourth episode. Ok, Jungkook thought, time for lunch. Time to sneakily un-intertwine himself with Yoongiâs arms, (a feat in itself, but only because he had to stop and coo at every one of Yoongiâs adorable noises), then go to kitchen and get working on the 100% absolute scientifically proven cure for the common cold â chicken noodle soup. Itâs easy, he thought. Iâve seen the hyungâs do it a thousand times. Just throw the shit into a pot and wait. Easy. Yeah, real easy, Jungkook thought bitterly, staring at the lump, congealed mess that was supposed to be Yoongiâs lunch.
But itâs not like it couldnât be salvaged. Uber Eats existed. But he wanted to do this, at least, for Yoongi. Even if these were less then ideal circumstances, it was always nice to make a meal for someone you love. He could just order the Uber Eats and then put it in the pot, play off like he made it. But where would he put the already existing chicken soup-likeâŠthing? Jungkook is pretty sure the plumber wouldnât appreciate him pouring it down the sink â it could probably clog pipes at 20 paces. Just as he is debating on the ethical pros and cons of lying to his boyfriend about making him soup, said boyfriend appeared in the doorway.
Well, it was either Yoongi or a living, breathing blanket, which is what actually appeared. Yoongi had made it out of bed, but brought one of the multiple blankets with him, and had used it to cover almost his entire body as he walked (shuffled) towards the kitchen, only his eyes visible. âJungkookie? Where did you go?â Jungkook couldnât see the elderâs mouth, but he just knew he was talking in pout again. This was the kind of Yoongi he signed up to see in the morning â not the âI have had a terrible nightâs sleep, woken up and realised Iâm sickâ morning Yoongi, but the âIâm very cuddly and soft and have just woken up from a nice dreamâ post-nap Yoongi.
âNowhere, baby. Just to the kitchen to ahâŠattempt some soup.â That got Yoongiâs attention, and had him shuffling over to look in the pot. He frowned upon the sight of the greasy soup. âIs thatâŠis that a noodle?â He asked, pointing at a blubbery, bloated pale thing. âThank you for trying, Kookie butâŠmaybe we could order lunch?â Jungkook smiled down at the talking mound of blankets and patted it on the head. âYouâre the boss today, Yoongles. What do you want to eat?â
After about 3 seconds of deciding (obviously I want lamb skewers, Kookie. What else?), the two were sitting down on the couch and setting the same drama up on the TV. There was a moment of comfortable silence between the two.
âYou know, Kook. When youâre not trying to be the best super-caring-and-amazing-pro doctor boyfriend, youâre actually really really good at taking care of people. Thank you for today.â He snuggled into Jungkookâs side, content with his confession.
ââŠ..Just double checking, I am still a super-caring-and-amazing-pro doctor boyfriend, right?â
âKOOK! Oh my god, shut up!â Yoongi hit him with the pillow, laughing behind his fake anger.
âJust double checking, Yoons! Hey, ow!â Another hit from the pillow.
âYouâve asked me so many times!â Another hit.
âOk, ow! That hit called for revenge!â Jungkook grabbed a pillow of his own.
âKookie, you wouldnât hit an ill person would you? Jungkook!â Yoongi immediately went into defence, curling up under his blanket.
âYou asked for this, hyung!â Jungkook would feel guilty later. Now was the time for winning.
It was barely 30 seconds of playfighting before Yoongi was collapsing back onto Jungkook with exhaustion. A few more moments of silence went by, filled only with Yoongiâs heavy breathing.
âYou are, by the way.â
âAre what, babe?â
âA super-caring-and-amazing-pro doctor boyfriend.â
âYoongi, you canât just go around saying things like that. I could get a heart attack from the overwhelming amount of cuteness!â
âKookie!â
âItâs true hyung. Iâd be fine, though, everyone knows super-caring-and-amazing-pro doctor boyfriends donât get hurt. Their too busy looking after their cute, sweet, amazing boyfriends.â
âOh, now whoâs going around giving people heart attacks with their cuteness?â
âStill you, Yoons. Donât deny it.â

When Yoongi doesn't come home, Taehyung looks for him.
3:04 am
The bed is cold when Taehyung wakes up. He had only meant to have a nap while waiting for Yoongi to come home, but he had been asleep for longer then he meant and judging by the clock on his bedside table, itâs just past 3 in the morning. His Yoongi hyung isnât here, his baby, his soulmate. And thatâs just, thatâs just unacceptable. And at this time in the morning! Taehyung immediately decides that something must be done. He steels himself for the coldness when he removes the sheets, slips his feet into those adorable bunny slippers Jimin bought him years ago, and begins the search for Yoongi.Â
3:16 am
Taehyung has been everywhere. Heâs looked in the kitchen. In the bathroom. In the laundry. In the other bathroom. Under the couch. In the closet. He even has a peek in Seokjinâs room, even though Yoongi hasnât slept there for the 6 months theyâve been dating â he far prefers being surrounded by Taehyung, both in a physical sense when they cuddle and in a mental sense when heâs covered in his sheets. Plus, it means Namjoonâs free to visit the eldest whenever he wants so, it works out for everyone. Except for the fact, of course, that Yoongi isnât there. Texting him is no help â it never is, Yoongi will only respond to a text under pain of death. But Taehyung has been trying anyway.

No response. Taehyung sighs heavily. Yoongi still isnât responding which usually wouldnât worry him but just â itâs late (or rather, itâs early). His mind is filled with images of Yoongi working himself to death in the Genius Lab, ruining his eyesight and spine. Itâs true, Yoongi had promised that heâd limit his time in the studio for the sake of Taehyung, and itâs true heâs been getting better with limiting his work, not letting his perfectionism force him to sacrifice his sanity. Still frowning, Taehyung grabs his coat and calls an uber to the BigHit building.
3:36 am
Taehyung lets himself into the Genius Lab. He remembers the day he got the passcode like it was yesterday â two months into them dating, he had been standing outside holding takeaway food and knocking on the door. Yoongi had texted him the code and even though he sounded aloof in the text, he was blushing like crazy and refused to meet Taehyungâs eyes once he got in. The code was (and still is) 123095 which is just â unbelievably adorable, and lead to Taehyung kissing every available bit of face that Yoongi wasnât hiding in his hands. But now, each number causes a little more disappointment to fester in Taehyungs gut. And he knows its unfair, he knows that being disappointed because his boyfriend had to work is selfish but if heâs being honest, he doesnât care. Yoongi had promised him this, had promised him he would be home before midnight at the absolute â absolute latest. And he wasnât. Taehyung is young and allowed to be selfish, and half of his disappointment comes from concern for Yoongi. Every night that Yoongi spends locked inside his studio is another night that he hasnât eaten properly, another night he hasnât slept properly, and Taehyung is worried, ok? But he practices his best âNo, Iâm not angry Yoongi, I promiseâ face and swings open the door.
Yoongi isnât there.
3:48 am
Taehyung isnât stressed. Heâs not. Heâs really, really, not. Heâs just anxiously pacing the length of the Genius Lab for fun. The fact heâs almost pulled his own hair out â well, thatâs just him trying out a new look. Because Yoongi â Yoongi isnât anywhere. Heâs been waiting here for 3 minutes, in case Yoongi has just gone to get a snack. And then he went to check the dance rooms, checked the offices, checked the cafeteria, and ended up back at the studio. Again, no sign of Yoongi. In fact, no sign of another breathing soul, despite a security guard that looked at him oddly. Heâs just so worried. The studio seems like he left in a hurry â his phone is on the desk and the lights were still on. He has no idea what heâs supposed to do now â go back to bed? Wait in the Genius Lab? Text Yoongi 17 more times? He tried the last one. Thereâs been no response. He thinks heâs justified in being concerned but now, thereâs nowhere for that concern to go. He ends up wandering the BigHit building, hoping that Yoongi will jump out of nowhere â maybe throw him a 7-month early surprise birthday party. To no-oneâs surprise, it doesnât happen.Â
3:56 am
Heâs made it to the roof. From here, you can see the expanse of the city, but still feel removed. Itâs quiet here as well. And cold. The ideal place youâd come to calm down and focus after a bad day working. Thinking back, Taehyung canât believe he didnât think of it sooner. Because there, leaning against the air conditioning unit, is a dark figure. As he gets closer, he can see the figure is wearing dark jeans and a large oversized hoodie. As Taehyung gets even closer, he can see the delicate features from under the hood â the doll lips and kitten eyes. Which are currently closed, showing that Yoongi is fast asleep.Â
âYoongi. Yoongles. Hyung. Baby?â
A quiet groan, and a shift of the shoulders.
âHyung, wake up please?â
A moment, and then the pretty eyes open.
âTaehyung-ah!âÂ
Thereâs another moment of silence, in which Yoongi takes in his position on the roof, the fact that Taehyung is still wearing pyjamas, and the fact that he somehow made it all the way over here wearing bunny slippers. Another moment as Yoongi wakes up and realises how long after he was expected home it is. One more moment, and Yoongi registers the relief and worry in Taehyungâs eyes.
âWhat time is it?â
âItâs almost 4, hyung. What are you doing out here? Why didnât you respond to my texts? I was worried, Yoongi-hyung, I- I missed you.â
Yoongi frowns at the confession, but he seems more disappointed in himself at causing Taehyung to feel that way. He stands, leading Taehyung to the barrier at the edge. He chews his lip and tries to find the right words.
âIâm sorry, Tae. IâŠI was having a bad day. Nothing seemed to go right for me as I was working and IâŠI donât know what happened, but I just started thinking about all of these horrible things, Tae⊠I thought I was over having panic attacks when things didnât go my way, but I guessâŠâ
Yoongi lets out a bitter laugh, staring at the ground. Heâs too ashamed of himself at putting Taehyung in this situation to meet his eyes.Â
âAnd then I came up here to try calm down and I guess it worked a little bit but⊠I left my phone in the studio and just the thought of going back there seemed ⊠too much. Iâm sorry I didnât respond to you, Tae. And Iâm sorry that I didnât come home when I should of, and Iâm sorry I left you to sleep alone, and I know that this doesnât really make it better but I am really sorry, Taehyung-ah, Iâm so sorry and-â
Yoongiâs long winded apology is interrupted by Taehyung pulling him into an embrace. All the bitterness has melted out of him upon hearing Yoongiâs reason. But still, thereâs something he wants Yoongi to hear.Â
âYou know hyung,â Taehyung speaks into the top of Yoongiâs head, refusing to let him out of the embrace. âYou could have just talked to me. You donât have to be alone in situations like these, hyung. Let me take care of you, ok?â
Yoongi swallows harshly and takes a moment to reply.
âI didnât want to-to bother you, Tae. Iâve always dealt with them myself andâŠâ
His voice is so unbearably soft and vulnerable it melts Taehyungs heart, but then steels it as he decides on a new resolve.Â
âIâm not going to let you suffer alone again, hyung, ok? I donât want you to. So tell me! No matter when or where.â The two pull apart as Taehyung looks into Yoongiâs eyes.Â
âPromise me, hyung. Promise me youâll tell me when youâre suffering.â
âO-ok, Tae. I promise.â
They kiss, sealing the promise as one Taehyung never intends to break. The romantic moment, however, is interrupted by Taehyung yawning loudly, causing Yoongi to take his hand and tug him towards the stairs down to the exit.
4:34 am
They sleep, bodies entwined. Their eyes are both closed. They sleep soundly throughout the night, the whispers of promises never to be broken ringing in their ears.
There are far worse things, after all, to be ringing in your ear.
(Such as the noise of an alarm clock going off at an unacceptable time, signalling that even those going on 3 am hunts for their boyfriend still have to get up at 6 am).
