Location: Serena’s home
As an Italian that grew up loving food and feeding the people that she cared for, it felt weird to not be doing that tonight. Instead her dear friend had insisted she came empty handed to enjoy a girl’s night together. Not cooking was one thing but to appear at Serena’s home without a gift would be entirely unlike her. She tried to shuffle the bottle of wine she was holding in one hand to the same hand that had a bag filled with a good crusty loaf of baguette sticking out of it plus some really good olive oil and balsamic vinegar before ringing the doorbell. With a smile she waited for the beautiful woman to open the door and when she did, the petite brunette was quick to add, “i know you said I shouldn’t bring anything but.. I couldn’t help myself. This wine needs to be shared with good company.”
boxofmightymemories:
Robbie thought about it for a moment. “Oh I’d have to say anything caramel, or butter pecan, oh coffee ice cream. To die for.” A twinkle in his eyes followed his recollection of favorite ice cream flavors. Robbie then took out his phone and handed it to her. “New isn’t always bad. I like new adventures.” He winked at her.
✨
“Oh thank goodness.. I thought you were going to request for something bizarre like Mint Chocolate Chip. And no offence but that is the oddest tasting ice cream I have ever tried.” And the first time she did was also the last time she has ever tasted the minty delight. There’s something to be said about being innovative when it comes to food but there are also some classics that should not be toyed with. Laela took his phone and keyed in her phone number, leaving a missed call on her phone so she knew how to contact him come the day and then she had a thought, she wondered whether she should save her contact on a different name just to surprise him. “Oh trust me, this is the most exciting I’ve ever done in quite awhile. And you know, I don’t think I ever asked for your name but I did ask about your dating stories.”
mattjdavidson:
.
Ah, it appears Laelae is starting to pick up on his antics and Matt’s hiiiiiighly amused. “You strike me as someone who actually gives a damn about the people who work at their restaurant. Growing up I worked at a couple greasy spoons and they treated me and the other people like shit there. So, it’s good to see someone in the restaurant industry giving props to those who work at her spot. It’s cool.” he said with a smile.
Matt watched the exchange between Laela and the man and could tell she wants to do more for him. When she returned he hung back and listened to her speak about herself. “Why do you consider yourself helpless? What you’re doing here shows just how helpless you’re not, Laela.” He doesn’t know a thing about her or her brothers but he’s basing this on what he’s seen of her so far since the day they met. She might be a bit of a klutz, which is putting it lightly, but she does a lot what what she has.
“Sweet! I’ll pop by the restaurant whenever I pegged down more in terms of details.” He tried not to laugh at the way she said down but it sounded comically unnatural coming out of her mouth. Something he didn’t think possible. “Figured it’ll be whatever’s easy to dish out to people. Lasagna, spaghetti with meatballs. But in the end I’ll hear out whatever suggestions you’ve got. And you know it with the tiramisu.
✨
“Greasy spoons?” She asked him with furrowed brows. “What are greasy spoons?” If that was a restaurant then she has never heard of it before and would be quite curious to try it out. In truth she did not understand why he made it seem like a big deal that she thought so highly of her team, she truly felt that if it weren’t for each and every one of them, Bella Notte would not be as successful as it currently was. And if she were the only one running the place then the restaurant might end up in flames purely by an uncanny occurrence of chance mixed with her clumsiness.
And just like that, her day of feeding everybody that needed some food had come to an end. Only she felt deep in her heart that there were definitely more that would still be missing out on a meal tonight which left her feeling a bit sad. “Oh you have no idea how much my brothers has helped me with everything. They are doing so well with the family business and I just.. I didn’t know what to do. I think I made more messes for them to clean up when I tried to help. Eventually it was them that helped me with Bella Notte.” She told him, but she was smiling as she told her story. There would never be a day where she were not grateful for the two most important men in her life.
“Why do I have this feeling that I will be seeing you at Bella Notte regardless?” This time she was not sure if she was entirely teasing or she was that confident in the food she was serving. But she knew he would not be able to stay away for too long. “Oh you know I would definitely not be planning the catering that way. Everything has to be good for the people at the station. Who knows, I might be able to tempt them all to bring their friends and family to come by Bella Notte.” Not that that would ever be her intention when she served food, but it would be a plus. “You know there are a lot more Italia desserts that are as good as Tiramisu, right?”
queencobraeva:
“Tonight! After work!” Eva’s eyes lit up. She had more words in mind but in her excitement that’s all that came out. “Can we make her some pasta too?” Hana got off work in a few hours she wouldn’t mind swinging over Laela’s house at all. “She…. She just… just has to feed the c-cats… and then she can come join us! And we can tell you about our adventures!” Eva knew that longing for a taste of food feeling. Her dad’s hot chocolate was divine and she had yet to find a way to replicate it.
✨
There was no mistaking the way her friend’s face lit up like a Christmas tree when she spoke of her girlfriend and instantly Laela too got excited at the thought of finally meeting the other lady. The Italian has heard all the best things about her that she thought it would be sad if she never got a chance to meet such a beautiful soul. “Tell you what, how about we make something together?” She asked with the biggest grin on her face. “A whole meal that we can all sit down and eat together as a surprise for Hana. What do you think?”
msjackieroberts:
“Of course it is! Sitting in nature with kind and beautiful company? I feel so incredibly lucky.” Jackie complimented, a bright smile still on her face. “Again, lucky me, it looks wonderful on you.” She was always full of compliments, she always felt like people deserved to hear how great they were. It always made her happy to see others happy. “That is a very good point! But look at us being smart and enjoying it while we can. Who knows maybe the cold weather is suppose to make us more thankful for the warmth like this. Although one of her eyebrows rose at the other woman’s kind words. “I think you may take the prize in making people blush. If you aren’t too careful I can turn the color of my hair.” She teased, “Oh it certainly won’t be the last time. My heart couldn’t the handle the idea of someone as gorgeous as yourself ever being bored if I can help it.”
✨
“Oh darling if you continue saying such things to me, I would not just be as red as a tomato but I’d be a melted pile of mush.” She laughed at her own dramatics. Laela had never been one to accept compliments well, she would often times blush and deny anything that was being said about her. While she had trouble accepting compliments, she did not however have trouble showering people with them. “But don’t you kind of wish there were more weathers like this in Seattle?” She asked casually, looking around at the trees and how the sunlight would peek through the gaps between the leaves leaving interesting shapes of shadows all around. “The cold sometimes make even my bones ache.” Or perhaps she was just not built for such weathers having grown used to the Italian summers. “And what a beautiful hair colour it is. The sun only makes it look that much better.” See, she truly had no problem offering such kind words to others and yet she found it hard to accept it when it was directed at her. “Well I suggest perhaps for our next meeting, we make a better plan so I can remember to bring you coffee and food too.”
boxofmightymemories:
“Those are the best kind.” He could feel a joke about bringing the chocolate syrup but Robbie kept it to himself. “You can ask me anything you want. I’m an open book. But I’d like to save some mystery for the date. Which we still have to pick a date and time for.” He was more than happy to set a day. If anything it might be better if he had offered his availability first. “I do work… a lot… Life of a chef and all. I am free this weekend though. Sundaes on a Sunday?"
✨
“What about ice cream flavours? Any flavours preference?” She thought it would be polite to at least ask. “If you say mint chocolate chip then I might have to rethink that date. Just a little bit.” Well that was a joke even if she did cringe at the thought of the usually green tinged dessert that reminded of nothing other than toothpaste. When he suggested a date, she realised that this was actually happening and all chances for him the play it off as nothing more than a tease was out the window. “Sundae on a Sunday sounds great. Should I uhm.. give you my number or something? This.. is kind of new for me if you can’t already tell.”
mattjdavidson:
.
“What??????????? How could you say such a thing? I wouldn’t dream to make you sad.” It’s clear as day Matt’s amping up the dramatics here and it’s hard to take what he said seriously. But he pretends it’s serious business. All the way. “Next time I’ll order the tiramisu to go and sit outside, in front of the restaurant, and eat it with the biggest pout. Bonus points if it’s raining outside.” Don’t worry, his mun is shaking her head at him right now. “The competition doesn’t stand a chance when it comes to your place. The food’s great but you’re the heart of it and it shows, Lae.” he said with a big smile. “Besides, where else can you go and possibly see you trip over your own two feet?” This is a bit of a tease and he moves over to the other side of the table and gives Laela a playful hip bump. “How much more of these do you have left to hand out?” They’re packaged meals but he can’t tell if each container is one meal or if they’re grouped.
Matt looks at her and knows that question all too well as it’s one he asks himself. “It’s not easy. It’s also not easy to feel you didn’t help enough in a situation. Or how you could have done more but were unable to due to x,y,z reasons. But it comes down to this Laela, for me that is and maybe you’ll find your own peace over time. That you’re doing everything you can in your power. You need to recognize you’re only one person and you can only do so much. And with what you do you are helping those with it. But, it is also important to realize that it’s something you can’t do on your own, especially when you truly want to reach out to as many as possible. That’s why it’s okay to ask for help here and there.”
“Absolutely! I wouldn’t go as far to say I’m a foodie but I do eat at a lot of different places and yours is one of my faves! Aksel’s heard about it and all the guys at the station have, too. Which is why I think it’s only fitting if your place caters the fiesta. It’s in the summer and as soon as I get the date figured out I’ll hit you up. Figured you’ll need plenty of notice so you can do whatever it is that goes into catering. I only know to show up and eat whenever the food’s ready.” he said, laughing. He’s worked at restaurants when he was in high school but never did catering. “So yes. This is me asking. You down?”
✨
“Now doing that would definitely hurt my feelings. How could you ruin a perfectly good tiramisu by eating it in the rain.” This time it was her turn to return the dramatics. To think that he would do such a thing just to make her feel bad was quite amusing. Now she could not help but turn bright red at his compliment, truly thinking that it was the food of her home that had people coming to Bella Notte often. “Noo.. It wouldn’t be what it is without the people that put their time and effort into the restaurant. I am lucky to have my team because I wouldn’t be able to do anything by myself.” While the place was hers, she owed it to so many different people to make it what it was today. She would never think that the customers came purely based on her effort alone.
“Well this is all that’s left.” She sighed as she looked at the last two packs of food left. The Italian still felt guilty for not being able to feed more, knowing that while she has made many a people’s day, she still thought only of those that she could not help. There was a man who seemed unsure if he could have some so she was quick to take one box and walked up to him, making sure that he knew that he could help himself to the food. He had been grateful, thanking her endlessly while she kept saying that she did not do much. The smile on her face when the man walked away smiling, probably relieved to not have to worry when he would be able to have his next meal, she turned to walk back to where Matt was and let out a soft chuckle. “You know, I’m actually one of the most helpless persons out there. I rely so much on my brothers really. I probably would not be alive if it were not for them constantly being there for me.” A tad bit dramatic but very much true.
The past few weeks, she had seen an increase in new faces at Bella Notte and she never knew why. Now she was starting to think that this cheeky friend of hers had something to do with it. “Well since you asked nicely and you know, you’ve been telling everyone about the restaurant, it would be a shame to not give them a chance to try it.” This time it was her turn to tease. “I am uhm.. down?” That was such an odd expression to the Italian so she ended up laughing just from hearing herself say it. “So, what do you want for the food? Tiramisu is a must, that I know.”
queencobraeva:
“My dad says something kind of… strange… Food will always taste d…diff-different because no two hands are the same.” Eva wasn’t sure if that was the exact quote. It felt like it was the same thing. “It’s not a bad thing either, just a fact of life.” She would get so upset when her attempts at cooking came out differently. It had cheered her up as a kid and still did to this day. Discussing her new life with Hana was difficult. None of the words seemed to describe exactly how happy she was. All she could do was smile and blush about it, until her mouth and brain caught up with each other. “Mi piace tantissimo! I d-don’t have to miss her anymore. I don’t have to watch her get on a plane and leave for a while.” There had been continents and oceans between them for such a long time. “She helps me with a lot of stuff too. And it’s so nice to have a person to cuddle with again."
✨
“I have to agree with your dad,” She said with a nod. “But it still makes me sad because I know there are some tastes that I would never be able to taste again. Especially mi nonna’s e mamma’s cooking.” Although she was lucky enough to have some of the Torricelli recipes, the food would almost never taste the same as what she remembered from her childhood. But she was still glad to have something so precious with her. All of those recipes turned out to be of great help with her restaurant of course. Her friend’s smile and joy was contagious because Laela too was grinning from ear to ear for her friend. “Well I am glad that you have someone to fall asleep and wake up to, mi amore. How is she settling into Seattle? You know I am still waiting for the day where you introduce me to that special darling of yours. She sounds far too amazing for me to not get to know.”

boxofmightymemories:
“It sure does. Think about it, you go buy some flavored syrups, some toppings, and a variety of ice cream flavors. Got yourself an ice cream sundae bar.” He didn’t want to seem too pushy so hopefully this kept the mood light. Except she asked a pretty deep question. “Oh that’s a heavy question. I think it varies person to person. I think it takes a little time. But that’s from my own life experiences.” He rubbed the back of his neck. It might not be the answer she wanted to hear but he couldn’t lie about something that big.
✨
“The colourful sprinkles and mini marshmallows sound good?” She could not help but laugh. This ice cream date with a movie had been just casually mentioned by her earlier on because she thought it was a cute idea. But she never thought he would think so too since he had been on far more interesting dates considering his experience in comparison to her. “Oopps... Sorry.” She cringed. “I didn’t mean to sound as if I was interrogating you. Sometimes my curiosity gets the better of me. I’ve been told that it might actually get me in trouble someday.”
domenick-rossi:
.
For the briefest moment he thought he said the wrong thing, that is when Dom caught on to the playfulness to her words. “Non per niente.” This delivered with a smile, of course. Usually, by now, Domenick would’ve been long seated and about to place an order but he finds this unexpected back and forth quite refreshing. “A dire il vero è raro quando metto piede in un ristorante italiano e le persone parlano la lingua. Questo è un cambiamento gradito.” He explained while she brought him to his table.
“That explains it. I’ve been away for close to two years. There used to be an old antique shop here. Which you’re probably aware of so I don’t know why I said that.” he said as his awkward nature tried to take over. To prevent himself for rambling Domenick looked at the menu. “Yes.” he said at this and realized by hyper focusing on the menu it might’ve come across as brusk. “I mean, yes. I’ve lived in Seattle awhile. Many years. You can say it’s home.” It’s the first place that felt like an actual home. It appeared he’s not the only one who fights with rambles and Domenick gave the woman another smile. “Is there anything you recommend? Come un abbinamento vino e pasto? È la prima volta che vengo qui e preferisco seguire qualsiasi suggerimento tu possa avere.”
✨
The Italian had thought that it was clear that she had been joking but maybe he missed it. “That’s because you haven’t been to an Italian restaurant owned purely by a pure blooded Italian. Which also means you have not been having very good Italian food.” She grinned, albeit a bit too proudly while she allowed him some time to scan through the menu. It was simple and rather small, everything could be seen in one page and she added only the most comforting food one would look for when they wanted something authentic from Italia. There were a few specials every now and then, but those were off menu. Which she was more than excited to introduce to him.
“Oh! Sei in viaggio da due anni? Dove?” She was far too curious for her own good because now she was basically lingering and hovering when she really should leave him to study the menu. This is one of the reasons why her waitstaff often times kept her away from greeting the guests; she was either over-friendly or far too shy to even form a coherent sentence. Oh how her face lit up when he asked for her suggestion. “Ah, un abbinamento vino e cena. Possiamo farlo.” Her voice was soft as she took the menu from him. “Question is, do you trust me to make the decision for your entire meal tonight? I promise it won’t disappoint.”

“We need to find a time to sit down without any distractions.” She mused when Laela mentioned she hadn’t taught her Russian yet. But any time they did get together, over coffee or whatever, the pair always ended up just talking and gossiping. But Alyria was more than willing to teach the other brunette if she wanted to learn. “Argh, okay okay.” She handed one book to Laela to hold while she sorted through the others. Green eyes flicked over the blurbs. “Fantasy - think dragons and swords. Undertones of romance maybe?” The next one. “Mmm crime fiction. I do love some good suspense.” She’d likely keep that one. “Next is… historical romance. And that one,” A point to the one her friend was holding. “Dystopian fiction with a female heroin.”
✨
“I believe finding some time would not be hard but no distractions however... I can’t promise that.” There was a knowing grin on her face because they both knew that whenever they did get together, studying and learning would be the last thing they would be focused on. Often times they would talk about everything else instead of what they should be doing. Laela was quick to receive the book and instinctively she studied it, turning it around in her hand to read an excerpt even though she was not the one buying. But when her friend listed out her options, she knew almost instantly which one would be the best option. “The one with the female heroine. Because I think you would love something like that a whole lot more than anything with some romance. Sweet fantasy romances are more for me, don’t you think?”
serenahollingsworth:
Serena knew that they both tended to hold their hearts close to them. Laela more so than Serena. Serena was overjoyed to hear that they would be able to plan a night to have dinner together. Glass in hand she held it to her lips to take a small sip. “ I know, work has been keeping me so busy. I get home and then I am also working with Winnie on her speech if she is willing. “ I know, I know. We really need to plan something for next week. Winnie will be overly excited to see you. “ Serena added hoping they were able to find a day that would work with their busy schedules. “ How about you send me a text later of which days you will be free, and we can go from there. “ They were here to enjoy the night after all. They were able to plan such things at a later date.
💕
There was something about the other brunette that made her want to be around Serena; she would feel as if she were safe and protected. Basically like an older sister that she always wanted but never had because God gave her two overbearing brothers instead. “Ah speaking of Winnie, how is that going? Has she spoken any Italian word by any chance? Maybe her tia should try to teach her something?” Seems like it has been quite some time since she had seen beautiful little Winnie and with how busy the restaurant had been, she had almost forgotten about her. But now both women would make plans, take some time out of their busy schedule to spend some time together and she could see the little girl again. “For you and little Winnie, I can make time, especially if you’re going to be doing the cooking. I can’t even remember when was the lsat time that has happened.”
queencobraeva:
“We…we are supposed to talk soon. Stasera o domani. Not sure if ‘our’ to-to-night, or ‘my parents’ tonight… but the c-c-con—conversation is happening. Cue nerves.” To her credit she didn’t really have a lot of time to herself to breathe. They were on a time crunch once Hana’s landlord decided her lease was up. They still had some boxes left in their spare bedroom to sort through. She wasn’t as nervous now, talking it out definitely helped. “This pasta is great. Grazie mille."
✨
“Well a soon is better than never.” She said with a smile, enjoying her mouthful of carbonara. No matter how many times she has made this dish before, following her fratello’s recipe down to the tiniest speck of salt, it never tasted the same and she never understood why. “You know I think my oldest brother makes it better than I do. And no matter what I do, I can never get it to taste the same. I even buy the same ingredients and everything.” That was still weird to her but it also meant that every time her brother was in town, she made him cook for her. “So tell me how’s everything? What’s it like living with a girlfriend?”
