When you end up falling asleep on the couch while watching Halloween movies with your kids, and then wake up terrified cause they are screaming and blowing things in your ear. I don’t know who the hell gave them air horns but they are gonna pay. Has anyone else been scared to death like this? Or is it just me?
I can’t say that I’ve been scared like that, it sounds like a terrifying and spooky way to wake up from a night of halloween movies, though.

Jules couldn’t help but giggle at Jeff’s attempt to cover up her little embarrassing slip. It was cute and sweet. Since he had showed up at her door, she couldn’t stop smiling - which was a good sign. It wasn’t like Julianne was sad these days. No, Steven’s little disappearing act stopped making her sad a long time ago, but there was something missing that she didn’t realize quite yet. She wasn’t the girl who hated dating or anything like that. She loved love and romance and all that came along with it, but she put it on the back burner after Steven had left. First, she needed to heal - then, well, no one really caught her attention to really lure her back into the dating scene. Not until now, at least.
“Perfect! We’ve made more than enough so I hope you’re hungry! And don’t worry..” Jules glanced back at Luca and winked before smiling back up at Jeff. “Your secret is safe with us. We’re great at keeping secrets, right Luca Bear?” The mom glanced back again. “The best!” The toddler confirmed.
Julianne walked back to the kitchen and squatted down so she was eye level with Luca. “How about you finish setting the table and tell Jeff where he can sit while I finish getting the food ready. Sound like a deal?” Luca nodded, “What’s gonna work?!” The little boy quoted Wonder Pets. “Team work!” Jules said in unison with her son, giving him a high five, before giving him a kiss on the forehead. “Thanks, baby!” She stood up straight and watched as her son ran over to grab Jeff’s hand to show him the way. “Taco’s coming right up. And they’re the healthier kind, so you won’t feel too guilty about cheating on that hockey player diet,” She grinned to Jeff.
Julianne’s smile was beautiful and Jeff was happy that his visit had made her smile, even if it was hard to believe that there were times when the beautiful woman wasn’t smiling. He was excited to get to be the person to take her out on a date eventually, but he was really happy that she was welcoming him into her home to hang out with her and her son as well. That was really a testament to how she felt that she could trust him, because he could understand that meeting someone’s son would be a big step in a relationship, but they’d already checked that off as he was asking her out, and Luca seemed like a really great kid that Jeff wanted to get to know as well.
“I’m a hockey player, I’m always hungry.” he said, smiling when Jules and Luca shared a moment together where they could just put a smile on even the angriest face. She was a really good mom, he could tell immediately. “If you two are so good at keeping secrets, I feel safe from the wrath of the trainers.” he said, high-fiving Luca.
Jeff helped Luca out while Julianne went back into the kitchen, and soon enough Jeff could smell the sweet aroma of taco sauce cooking. Jeff trailed after Luca, going around the table and putting the heavy plates on it after Luca put down a place mat, “hey we make a good team too, Luca. You must be an expert table-setter by now, right?” he asked Julianne’s son, trying to talk to him like a normal person and interested in seeing how Luca would react to him being around for dinner. “hey, Luca.. let me ask you something. How does she make tacos healthy?” he asked, stumped at how the pretty blonde managed to make one of the unhealthiest greasy foods into something healthy.
(text): How about I come over with some dinner and a movie tonight? This way, you can rest up post-surgery and we get to fit that date before I have to leave tomorrow night to start filming down south.
[text]: Sounds like a plan! Although you are kind of risking the date being really good and then you flying out immediately after would just make us both miserable.
(text): I'm glad to hear the surgery went well! How are you feeling? Do you need anything?
[text]: Thank you, Jules. [text]: Nothing but the date that you promised we’d go on :)
Los Angeles Kings center Jeff Carter will be out indefinitely with a cut to his left leg that will require surgery.
(Text): are you okay? I just heard about the injury.
[text]: Hey, sorry I’m replying to you so late. I’m just recovering from surgery. [text]: Unfortunate casualty of the game :( I’m pissed about being out because of it.

“Can I go now?” Luca whipped around to asked his mom as soon as Jeff mentioned the skating. Julianne laughed and shook her head, placing her hand on his and ruffling his brown hair a bit. “Not tonight, bubba. But soon! I promise. Now how about you go wash up for dinner?” A pout quickly turned into a large smile, the emotions running through the toddler quick. “Momma, I want Jeff to eat dinner with us!” He tried to whisper, but it was a very audible whisper. Jules smiled and loudly whispered back. “I’ll ask him, but you have to go wash up!”
The blonde watched her son rush to the sink, where he quickly dragged his step stool over to. She was about to ask Jeff if he’d like to eat dinner with them, but he took the opportunity to explain himself first. “Jeff Carter is asking me out on a date?” She meant to think that, but it was spoken. Full name and all. The dancer laughed, squeezing her eyes shut and scrunching up her nose - the latter a signature Jules move. “I just said that out loud,” She laughed. It was no secret she had a crush on the man in front of her for quite some time. Even her ex joked about her crush on the hockey player, but it was always just that - a crush. Crushes hardly ever became a thing, right? Celebrity crushes, at least. Apparently not, because Jeff was standing in front of her, asking her out. Oh God, did he know about her crush? That would be humiliating. The two had met a few times briefly, thanks to Jules being a Kings fan and Luc being Luca’s grandfather…but she never expected this.
One eye opened, being sure he wasn’t creeped out or showing signs he thought she was a complete idiot, then the other. “I, um,” She let out a small laugh again. Julianne Hough was bad at dating and flirting and all that came along with it. It was obvious, after three years out of the game - more than that, since she had been with Steven for awhile before he up and left. But, time heals all. Julianne wasn’t completely scared of dating or love like she was before - after Steven had left. “Sorry.. I just, didn’t expect this..” That was an attempt to cover up her embarrassing behavior. Once she had her thoughts and herself collected, her sweet smile grew larger and she nodded. “I would love to go on a date with you… but first, would you like to have dinner with us? It’s National Taco Day so we made tacos. Tacos are our favorite around here.” Luca jumped up and down behind Jules and nodded, hoping that’d get Jeff to say yes. Julianne could see him out of the corner of her eye, letting out a small laugh as she kept her eyes on the hockey player. “No pressure or anything!”
Jeff let Julianne do her thing with her son, not wanting to overstep his boundaries when he hadn’t even asked her on a date yet, but his original plan for the evening did actually involve Luca because he thought that Julianne might be more comfortable going out if she knew her son would be with her and they’d keep the pressure off being too romantic, and just getting to know each other to have a good time. Jeff heard Luca’s request because kids didn’t have the best scale when it came to how loud they were when they were supposed to be whispering, but Jeff laughed, and waited in turn to be asked by Julianne.
“Uhm, yes? At least Jeff Carter thinks that’s what he was doing, unless he really screwed the whole thing up.” he said, playing along with her cute little shocked revelation of her genuine reaction to him being there. He actually had no clue that anyone had a crush on him, much less someone as beautiful as Jules, but he’d had his own crush on her for a while that he was now acting on, so you could say that they were both in a vulnerable position from where the other stood. “You did, but if you meant that you didn’t want me to ask you out, you can say so and I’ll just take a taco to go.” he joked again, trying to get her to feel better about the whole thing and not be so nervous or embarrassed.
“I know you didn’t, and I’m sorry for shocking you… it was my attempt of being kind of romantic, but I see how a text might have prepared you a little more and given you a heads up on my intentions.” Jeff waited for her to process what he’d just asked her and gave her time and space to make her mind up, but when she did he laughed as a result of releasing nervous energy and nodded, “Wow, Julianne Hough just agreed to go on a date with me.” he said, trying to do the same thing she did when he asked her out so that she didn’t feel embarrassed any longer. “I said that out loud.” Jeff looked behind Jules at Luca, both adults knew what the little guy was doing and Jeff did an exaggerated thumbs up at Julianne’s son before he answered Julianne, “I can never say no to a good taco. As long as you two promise to keep it a secret from my trainers and your Grandpa Luc.”

It was National Taco Day and that counted as a holiday in the Hough house. Taco’s were on the menu for dinner and, of course, Jules made sure to make them a healthy version. The dancer was always very health conscious and made sure both her and her son ate well, with a cheat day here and there. Luckily, Luca got her taste for healthy foods and never gave her any issues with eating the good stuff. The two were standing in the kitchen, getting dinner ready together. Not only did the three year old have his mother’s healthy gene, he also loved to be in the kitchen helping her cook. “Good job, Bear,” She smiled over at him as he stood on his little step ladder, putting the taco shells on the plates. “Hm, what do you think? Think Uncle D will want some?” The blonde asked with a smile. “I already made one for him, momma!” His little finger pointing to the third plate. “Well, of course. You never forget Uncle D!” Jules laughed. It was nice having her brother live with them, which meant her nephew, who was also Luca’s BFF, was here half the time. Tonight, unfortunately, wasn’t one of those nights.
“Momma, the door!” The little boy hopped off his step stool and went running as soon as he heard someone knocking. Jules laughed, shaking her head. She put the stove on low and wiped her hands off on one of the dish towels so she could step away and see who it was. Luca never was shy, so the idea of someone coming over was quite the excitement. Pulling the door open, Julianne looked up to see a familiar, yet unexpected face. What was Jeff Carter doing at her house? “Jeff, hi,” She smiled, confused as to what was going on. Before she could get another word out, Luca was reminding her that Jeff played for the Kings. Letting out a laugh, she nodded to her son. “I know, baby,” She told him. Julianne looked up, putting her focus back on Jeff. “Do you-” She was about to invite him in, but she barely got two words out before Luca was taking his hand and pulling him inside. “..Want to come in?” She asked through another laugh, but it seemed like he had no choice now.
The minute that the door opened, a smell of something really good cooking wafted through the air to Jeff’s nose. The first person he saw was Luca, Julianne’s son who he’d seen with Luc a couple of times around the stadium but never had actually met and been introduced to. “Hey, you must be Luca. I’m Jeff, your grandpa Luc has told me a lot about you and how you’re going to be skating with us on the ice really soon.” he tried to talk to the kid like an adult, thinking that was how he would have wanted to be spoken to if he was Luca’s age, and he could already see that he was a really fun loving kid. “Julianne, hi. Uhm, yeah that would be great.” he said, before he was actually able to explain what he was doing at her house, he was being pulled into it by Luca.
When Luca seemed less interested in Jeff being there, he finally was able to actually explain himself. “I wanted to ask you out, on a date… and call me old fashioned but I don’t think there’s anything like actually coming yourself and facing rejection like a man if you’re about to say no to me.” he was nervous, but he was there and that had to show her that he was serious about wanting to go out with her, right? “I know you probably have a lot to think about with dating and spending time with guys because you have Luca in the picture, but there’s by no means a guarantee policy and you could just try it out, let me buy you a cup of coffee and see how it goes, and if you like it we can graduate to lunch or a movie or something, I just wanted to put myself out there and ask, because.. well I’d be an idiot not to, and that’s a direct quote from Luc himself.”

Jeff had been talking to Luc about Julianne and her son Luca, so he had a general understanding of their situation and he was aware of how being a single mom made Julianne an even more impressive individual, adding more than he knew was possible to the funny and sweet first impression that he had of her. After a lot of talking and psyching himself up to gathering the courage to ask her out, he’d come up with a nice day that they could have if she said yes, taking her out with her son to the rink which he had made sure was vacant at the time, before it was cleaned out for the home game.
Luc had given him Julianne’s address because Jeff was old fashioned about actually asking someone out on a date to their face and not through a text, even given how scary it could be with the risk of rejection as soon as he asked the question, but he was there and knocked on the front door, hoping that she was there and he’d give him a shot.

Sometimes–usually about once every year or so–I find myself just, crazy bored. And for some reason I convince myself it’s a good idea to Google ‘Katie Cassidy’. Does anyone else do this–or am I the only masochist around here? I mean, don’t get me wrong–some of the things I came across will have me laughing for days. But take it from me–if you have yet to do it, don’t. Unless you’re like me and you apparently like to torture yourself.
Good rule of thumb is to never google yourself. I’ve gotten drunk and googled myself before and it came up with questions about my teeth mostly and things about how old I am to be still in the game. What did the world wide web have to say about you?

You are truly making me hungry for some Chinese food now. There’s nothing like going to a country and eating their authentic food. Always the best thing about traveling. What can I say I’ve been busy so haven’t been really around much.
You could go out and ask a random person on the street if they want chinese food and you’d find that most people would want some if you offered. It’s one of the really good parts of traveling, but I get into trouble for eating a lot when i’m back home and have to go back to the gym. That’s okay, sometimes being out of the loop makes people feel better than people who are too far into the loop.

Basic Bitches call themselves basic bitches, so it’s okay to say! I think? I have such a sweet tooth, even if I’m good about controlling it most of the time. Does this mean you’re a “no” when it comes to pumpkin bread? I make some pretty good pumpkin bread. She did! It was a little crazy, but she survived so that’s good! I probably should have stuck to apples. I was. I got home the other day. I was missing my pups and Luca too much. We didn’t go skiing but we did go canoeing, fishing, and hiking! It was a blast. A nice girls trip. Thank you! That’s really sweet of you. Luca will feel special, for sure. Like I said, he already thinks he’s a part of the team! So cute. The good news is we’ll be home for the season opener in a couple of nights, so we’ll be there!
Oh so it all cancels each other out when they call themselves basic bitches, I get it. So many things that you could probably explain to me when it comes with the terms that people use now. I’ve actually never had pummpkin bread before, if it’s any good I’d be willing to eat that if it means being able to say no to the Pumpkin spice latte trends. So your teacher ate a candle.. there’s a story you could tell forever. Apples are boring, you’re different, it’s way more interesting that you gave your teacher a candle that she mistook for ice cream toppings. I’ve got dogs, no kids yet but I know what you mean about missing them when you travel to places you can’t take them. Sounds like a good trip! I hope the weather was good while you were up there. Hey, Luc’s grandson? He is a part of the team, it’s about time he skates around with the rest of us. Awesome! I’ll see you guys there.

Okay, so I’m establishing that you’re not a Basic Bitch and that’s not terrible. As long as you can appreciate the pumpkin scents? Pumpkin spiced candles? Something to get into the Fall season? You don’t have to taste the candles, unless you’re my fifth grade teacher who thought the candle I gifted her for the holidays was an ice cream topping. I didn’t have the heart to tell her it was a candle after I received that thank you note. Oh! Timmy’s! I love Tim Horton’s. Best coffee and donuts ever. I’m actually in Canada right now - Banff, to be exact - with some girl friends for a Kind Campaign trip. Luca is with Luc and Stacia this week, and I miss him soooo much. He would love skating with you guys. He already feels like he’s part of the team when he gets to hang out with you guys. Grandpa Luc spoils him. That sounds awesome. Luca will be so excited to get back in the Staples Center for a game. He’s been practicing his Go Kings Go! cheer.
I mean, I didn’t want to make it sound like there’s anything bitchy about being basic, but it’s all up to your personal preference. I just really hate that overly sugary stuff. Just a normal cup of coffee is just fine for me, and Tim Hortons is the best. She ate the candle you gave her? Damn, I used to just give my teachers apples and I’m feeling good about that now because at least they knew they were supposed to eat those. You’re in Canada? That’s great, have a great time.Banff has awesome slopes if you like to ski.
