i always thought this take was stupid but fantasy high fans really do make me understand when the ace discoursers argued that talking about asexuality with teenagers is homophobic. i could elaborate on this if i wanted to get death threats from 17 year olds

as a day 1 riz fan. the way this fandom polices interpretations of a fully fictional made up character is weird + the show isn’t even very interested in litigating all the explicit details of the characters’ sexual and romantic identities + who cares + i think this fandom has a very childish and immature understanding of sexuality and identity + it’s weird to tell alloromantic/allosexual gay fans who identify with riz’s characterization that they aren’t allowed to relate to him + it’s very easy to see riz as strictly aroace and mind your own business + it’s 2025 and if i still can’t search for posts with my silly little goblin guy without having to wade through the same goddamn arguments i may need to give up on this shit altogether

i have a theory that murph characters are often so well-loved because they can never totally escape from the fundamental murph impulse to be a helpful player and solve the mystery, so his characters often wander into being the party’s moral center. even when he’s playing someone like jens to be as unlikable and toxic as possible, part of him simply needs to do things Properly and that is a really charming quality when it surfaces in his characters.

every time someone goes down in an actual play there’s some big brained reddit user going “uhhh why did the dm pull their punches??? they should have KILLED this pc for STAKES” idk would that be fun for you? do you think it’s impressive or hard for a dm to kill their pcs?

doing my eldermourne relisten. i fully forgot about the whole “irina doing a mass murder in their village” thing…… that was CRAZY

i think people mostly liked how fia/irina ended up but that’s the thing that makes me both want and not want naddpod to go back to eldermourne eventually. because it’s so in character for fia to be unconditionally supportive of irina because (as emily has said!) she thinks of batilda and irina as the two people in her life that are just purely inherently good. and i was always waiting for the other shoe to drop with irina, since she IS kind of a wildcard but there’s nobody to really take her to task for it.

obviously i’m naddpilled (naddpod pilled) but when i see snarky comments about how actual play dms don’t give worthwhile advice for home games, i’m like… idk dude naddpod has been so helpful for me. dungeon court obviously is great and they often discuss the difference between an edited actual play show and a home game! and furthermore i really appreciate how the short rests get into challenges from session to session — they are all improvisers, but similar to how jake learning d&d on the podcast makes campaign 1 more accessible, caldwell/emily/jake have all started dming on the show and i’ve absorbed so much from listening to them talk about their experiences. it’s something i really love about trinyvale in particular; caldwell is learning how to dm as he goes, and it’s become a running joke that the triplets are overpowered because they have all this wildly unbalanced stuff, but at the same time? it’s really fun!! and imo one of the things that makes dming so emotionally taxing (for me) is the constant anxiety of trying to do everything perfectly from the beginning. and naddpod + dungeon court is genuinely very good at reminding me that all of those little mistakes and underwhelming moments and unused plans don’t matter half as much as having an enjoyable experience with your friends.
