     Even if she wasn’t Japanese per-say, she sure seemed Japanese. Or rather, she seemed like a samurai. Humble, and happy to hear his advice, Snake can’t help but smirk. Although the ways of a samurai are antiquated in the fields of those battles where he comes from...

If she practiced the same principles of the samurai he knew of, then he respected that.

“... Alright. Call me Snake.” No need to offer his real name, he figured. “A cup of coffee sounds nice sometime, kid. ... What’s your name?”

It’d been awhile, Ocelot pondered over his morning coffee. Been a while since he’d seen Solid Snake.

Ocelot slowly smoothed the pad of his thumb over the rim of the insulated cup in his hands as he recounted their initial meeting, a few weeks back. He was still amazed at how old Snake was, but that all just led back to his burning desire to uncover the truth behind the veil in this place. A burdened sigh left the Russian and his brow crinkled as he closed his eyes, rubbing the condensation from the cup away between his thumb and index finger.

Was Snake still alive? Was he really concerned? He was the closest thing to familiar he’d encountered in this city so far and Ocelot almost felt pity at the thought of the soldier expiring in this shithole.

Opening his eyes slowly, Ocelot kept his head bowed, staring down at his coffee. Black and by now. lukewarm. His lips curled a little in distaste, but before he could get up to toss the drink, he noticed a pair of boots, toes pointed toward him…

Speak of the Devil and he shall appear.

     He was a man who didn’t like to appear until he was needed. And even then, Snake was pretty selective when it came to who needed him. People he was acquainted with, for example, were those he’d come to-- especially if he considered them his friends.

When it came to business partners, however... well, that’s the thing.

He had no business partners that weren’t his friends. Perhaps he was lucky, this way. Though, this certainly didn’t count for his newest associate. After all... he was Revolver Ocelot.

Needless to say, however, as Snake saw the slightly older man, he went for the approach. ... Last they met, their next meeting was to be set up by fate. And it seemed like fate scheduled an appointment for right now, since there he was-- the mustached ruski relaxing in a cafe.

He was feeling kind of hungry, anyways.

“Kept you waiting, huh?”

“I had a feeling. Sorry for troubling with meaningless information.” 

“In a sense, I am not that different from those knights. It took me time to understand how vast the world is and I am still learning. At the end, I wish to protect what is within my reach, since it is my duty to serve the people.”

“... It’s fine,” he nods, deciding to put it out of mind. “You seem like you’ve got your head in the right place, anyways. ... Samurai or knight, you’re still young. You’ve got a lot to learn. Stick true to your ideals, kid. You’ll go far.”

“Just some advice from a soldier to a samurai.”

“Are there more in other cultures? I have not had the pleasure of studying beyond what I have been taught.”

“Unfortunately, I am not. The Eastern Kingdom of Mikado is above Tokyo itself, which should be Japan in any case and me and a fellow samurai are working earnestly to unify both lands.”

“...” He frowns, in obvious confusion. “... Right. Alternate universes, and such. Where I’m from, there sure isn’t any kingdom just... floating above Tokyo.”

“Samurai are a product of Japanese culture, though. No other cultures have them, unless you want to compare knights from Europe to samurai. ... Not where I’m from, at least.”

“I have seen plenty weird ones myself.”

“These are the samurai garbs for those chosen in Mikado.”

“Samurai? ... Heh. Don’t look much like the samurai I know.”

“So you’re from Japan, then?”

“For the umpteenth time, this is not a costume but my uniform. I do not know what a Halloween is.”

“Weird lookin’ uniform, kid. No offense.”

“What’s it for?”

    She didn’t really need to check on all her flowers, they did pretty well on their own. But the ones in sector two needed a little more help than the rest considering the environment. It was much like Midgar, polluted and nothing green could grow there, but her case was a little special and she’d managed to cultivate a nice patch in the mugginess of the smog infested sector. Today was a check up day, see how they were doing and give them the attention they needed. And it seemed they’d need a little extra care today, as she approaches she sees a man carelessly tread over them.

    “Yes they are and you really should be more careful about where you walk,” she scolds with slightly pouted lips. Really what was with people stepping all over her flowers? Approaching the crumpled up patch of blooms she bends down to begin tending to them. “You’re lucky flowers are so resilient,” she adds not really angry with him but she wasn’t afraid to give him a piece of her mind. “Except here it’s not exactly easy for them,” gesturing to the corrupted earth around them. “You know since you stepped on them you mind giving me a hand?” Pointing to the wheelbarrow she’d brought along with her that was filled with healthy dirt.

     A low grumble ruminates from the man’s throat as he’s chastised-- though he can’t entirely blame her for being frustrated. Even still, it’s a bit annoying. ... But fortunately, he wasn’t so rude as to turn the girl down and not help her. Since, well, it was his fault and all.

He didn’t have much better to do anyways.

“... Fine.”

     And with a quiet response, the man heads over, heaving the wheelbarrow a bit closer to the patch-- not particularly saying a word until he looked at her again.

“I’m surprised anyone’s trying to grow flowers in a part of the city like this to begin with. Not exactly the most ideal growing conditions, here.”

“But the fact that you’ve managed to get a lot growing is impressive.”

     Although it’s a little hard to hear it in his tone, the man was genuinely impressed. It showed dedication, he figured. It’s why he felt a bit guilty for what he did. He had to remember that this wasn’t a mission. There were people just trying to live their lives here.

He’d need to mind his surroundings more.

“Tell me about it, pal. Trying to make our way up in the world and these weirdos make us look bad.”

“Us? I’m not the one wearing a mask over my eyes here.”

     At least his sneaking suit was machine dry.

    Despite her mind being jumbled and still not being able to grasp her situation well; instincts were something that never left. The want to survive, to do what was necessary to stay alive; that didn’t go away easily. Sometimes it was easy to think she could do nothing and just die, knowing how much easier that would be for everyone. Yet still her limbs moved, carried her forward to find food and avoid danger…for the most part.

    She pulls an arrow taunt and lets it fly, the tip piercing a wolf directly between the eyes. She’d heard wolves came out at dusk in this sector and wolf meat sounded better than chewing on squirrels, despite the evident dangers it presented. The yelp it emits causes the rest of it’s friends to flee, dissipating into the shadows and it’s only when they leave does she realise she did more than find herself a meal. A man she hadn’t seen previously gets to his feet, she assumes he’d been in a confrontation with the beasts and she’d unknowingly helped him. She doesn’t point her weapon at him but she makes sure she has an arrow locked in her bow just in case. “Guess they had better things to do,” she quips although her expression remains humourless. “Did they get you?” Eyeing him closely to see if he had any visible wounds, her voice not so much concerned but merely discerning his situation and how she should react.

     Some wolves.

They were wolf-like, but the man could barely compare them outside of appearances-- wolves weren’t normally this big or aggressive. If they didn’t at least look similar to the animals he knew, he’d consider them more as monsters than anything else. Before he knows it, he’s cornered and attacked-- but he’s at least able to dodge a scratch by dropping down.

Before he can pull out his weapon, however, something pierces the air-- and soon pierces one of their brains-- and the beasts scatter like wildfire. A low grumble undulates from Snake’s throat as he begins to stand and turns, facing the girl who had showed up. ... She didn’t seem all that interested in him by the sound of her voice, however.

“All bark and no bite, huh?” he quipped back after a moment, looking the archer up and down. “Almost, but I’m fine. ... Nice aim with that thing.”

“I take it you weren’t trying to save my hide, were you?”

     Already, Snake was lighting up a cigarette.

🌸 la grâce. ❛ —- I wasn’t exactly RECRUITING new bodyguards, but, I SUPPOSE you would be quite suitable while I am here, you seem to be quite fitting. ❜ placing a digit under her chin, immense scrutiny took place – concluding with a simple toss of golden tresses to be shuffled behind her,  ❛  oh, my, I seemed to have forgotten my initial question. have you any idea what location this is? my GPS is no good in directing me and i’d hate to keep standing in this particular area for long. ❜

     He’d just bumped in to this girl by chance-- and already it seemed she had something in mind for the man. An obviously rich kid, by the way she both carried herself and dressed. Responding in turn with a mild scowl, the soldier crossed his arms, standing upright.

At least she looked more normal than most of the people trapped here.

“Sorry, princess. I’m not looking for a babysitting job,” he’d exclaim flatly, “But I can help you figure out where you are. You’re in Hive City, Sector 2.”

“But anything else beyond that, no one knows.”

     If they really were in another universe, who even knew what planet they could be on.

“I suppose people do reach out towards comforts from their world.” Not that this particular way was healthy. Although the mage knew no one would appreciate being randomly criticised by a stranger. Even if out of concern.

“This city is strange to you I take it?“

     He’d been mostly thinking aloud to himself-- so he shouldn’t have been too surprised someone would overhear him. The smile on Snake’s face dims, and the cigarette is once again brought back to his mouth for another inhale of the nicotine. “Strange is one way to put it.”

“Most've the people I’ve seen here look like they come out of a cartoon or a video game. Y’know. Fiction. And I’m not even in to those geeky things.”

     He had Otacon to blame for whatever knowledge he had on the matter.

“Phew...” Letting out a sigh of smoke, Snake took the cigarette from his mouth-- gazing at it for a moment with a small smile. “At least there’s one normal thing here...”

“The taste of a good cigarette.”

     Stalking the alleyways as opposed to the streets always brought about interesting sights. Today, for example, he’d caught a whiff of a battle-- arriving just in-time to witness one come to an end. A few thugs and a young man, probably in his early twenties. ... The sudden appearance of a blue, barrier-like construct would surprise the soldier, but he was more focused on the kid’s fighting style. He was greatly proficient with knives-- and even if they were wooden, it was obvious that he knew how to use them. He certainly no amateur, anyways.

It doesn’t take too long for the thugs to be disposed of, and shortly after, Snake slowly steps out from the corner he was watching at, arms lifted-- a show he was unarmed.

“You were pretty good with those knives. Managed to take care of those guys without getting a scratch on you,” he exclaimed-- offering his observations to the other as Snake approached Fushimi. “And using your blue... thing to shoot that man’s bullet back at him? That’s a nifty ability you got there, kid.”

     Ever since meeting Ocelot, the man had decided to keep tabs on him.

Not actively, mind you-- but if he ever saw him and they had no reason to talk... well, with a guy like this, it was good to keep a mindful eye. Wearing civilian clothing, Snake didn’t stand out too much-- but he knew the other would recognize his face. So, a binocular was practically necessary. ... Still, he was surprised to see the slightly older man chatting up with what looked to be a young adult, with an Asian complexion-- possible Japanese.

What was Ocelot up to with a kid like this?

-- A little while passed, and the two parted ways. And as opposed to following Ocelot, the man decided he’d head after the kid instead. And about ten minutes later...

“Hey, kid. You got a second?”

“What did that man you were with want from you, earlier?”

     He had approached Yata.

“ANOTHER WHO THINKS THE SHADOWS HIDE THEM?” Oh, they never learn. Although the fact that it even warranted them to be sneaking about in his presence fed Kylo Ren’s ego slightly; it meant he was one to be wary of. Not that the whole blackened robes and expressionless helmet gave away such a grim first impression anyway. Why else would people be careful around him?

AS if already knowing where this individual hid, the fallen knight turned to their general direction. “COME OUT,” he beckoned, confidently so. “HIDING IS USELESS AGAINST ME.”

“...” He’d been hiding pretty well, too-- seems this guy’s vision wasn’t impaired by that helmet of his at all. A low grumble can be heard momentarily. “Guess I’m out of practice.”

     Standing up slowly, hands raised, the man remains where he is-- fully visible to the other now. He’d seen the other coming through and after getting one look at him, could tell he was bad news. Kylo Ren wasn’t the friendliest-looking weirdo in this city, after all.

“Alright. I’m not interested in a fight, nor am I looking to start one.”Setting his hands down straight, Snake regards Kylo Ren with a flat expression.

He’d remain naturally wary, however. Snake wasn’t sure what to expect from this one.

     “It can be difficult to not tire out, especially as the nights get darker faster.”

“I’d figure a dancer would have more stamina. ... You are a dancer, right?”

     Her clothing gave him the impression she was, anyways.
