i don’t think i’ll be able to finish this au because i have like 7 other drafts i still haven’t completed but i really love this idea so here’s the rundown of my nicoquinn situationship to endgame nicojack college au:
nico, who’s openly bisexual had been pining on jack but he thinks jack and by extension the rest of the hughes are straight which caught him off guard when he saw quinn at a gay bar.
quinn exploring his sexuality after breaking up with his girlfriend and her confiding to him that she’s bi and a lot of things that he brings forward when they talk about their relationship sounds like what she felt when she was closeted and gently persuaded him to explore because there’s nothing wrong with trying new things out! if he tried out kissing guys and it wasn’t for him then hey, at least he tried. or if thinks he’s straight and just not into sex that much then that’s fine too. it’s just something to think about.
quinn contemplating for days before deciding to try it out before he could tire himself out with his thoughts. then him getting a bit panicky in the club because he doesn’t have any game plan so when a guy tried to hit on him, he didn’t know what to do.
nico coming in between quinn and the guy asking if everything was okay and quinn had never felt so relieved to meet an acquaintance as he did in that moment. considering nico was (per jack’s word) trustworthy, he decided to confide to nico on his exploration.
nico extending a hand to help (try find someone quinn would be comfortable with flirting / trying things out) and quinn being grateful nico was offering help (with his exploration) so quinn managed to muster enough courage to kiss nico.
the kiss was great, not exactly what nico had planned when he offered to help but that’s how they end up in a weird situationship / fwb where they were both dl about sleeping together but some things just falls into place yk.
nico’s not really great w being casual since he’s always been an act of service kind of guy so more often than not, he’d be doing some bf type things like opening up the door or get some treats for jack when he comes over etc etc but now he still does that its just that its no longer just for jack.
it started small like nico usually comes by the frat house after class to work on some type of leadership thing he had with jack so he’d bring jack his tea, but now he brings both jack and quinn their drinks. at first jack thought it was just an extra drink nico had brought for himself but then quinn came down from his room, went directly to the living room table the drinks were on, took the cup and left with a “thanks hisch” back upstairs.
jack already raising his eyebrows because when did nico get closer to quinn? as far as he knew, nico and quinn were only at a hello, goodbye base so seeing quinn be so casual with nico was raising some flags on his mind.
nicoquinn trying so hard to be dl with their fwb situation but they have become so in sync, JD figured out they were together or at least were sleeping together because it was suspiciously similar to his and trevor’s relationship / situation.
JD chirping nico with “damn hischer was going to become a hughes one way or the other” at the frat bbq party. nico, quinn & jack went still while everybody else was confused.
everyone sussing out nicoquinn after the jd chirp bcuz they tried to curb whatever dynamic they had and nico trying to get everyone off his back by helping essentially everyone just resulted in trevor tricking nico into doing his portion of the weekly chores.
jack figuring out that nicoquinn might have something going on but its not a relationship because if it were, neither nico nor quinn would be the type to hide it so he makes a plan to basically get nico back.
lowkey toxic jack trying to manipulate all of nico’s time like literally constantly being next to him / calling him at any possible moment that he feels like quinn might be with nico because yes nico can be close to quinn, he loves that his favourite people are close but nico cannot be closer to quinn than he is with jack.
jack just reeling with the constant feeling of nico is his first, why is he with quinn now? is it something he did? why isn’t nico next to him right now and instead sitting with quinn? he’s just reading a book, he can read it next to jack so why must he be next to quinn? just a stream of why quinn and not him because he’s so used to having nico at his corner that nico not being there just does not sit well with him.
nicoquinn discussing their situationship because they fr are just physically attracted to each other but not romantically and decided hey this shit is easy for us, it only has to make sense to both of us. unless one of us decides that they want a relationship with other people then we’ll continue with this arrangement.
nicoquinn just coming clean because it’s getting annoying that everyone is trying to make them confess that they’re dating and quinn is tired of trevor using nico to do his chores.
jack feeling hurt by the revelation but he doesn’t have any claim on the situation so it just him ending up brewing more in his thoughts and nico thinking jack is mad because he didn’t tell him first so he tries to make up with jack by doing things he knows jack likes which cause jack to spiral more because nico is doing all this to make him happy, so what does nico do for quinn to make quinn happy? does he put more effort for quinn than jack? another stream of comparison that jack knows is unhealthy but he has never related to olivia rodrigo more.
luke looking at the messy ass relationship contemplating whether he should include himself in whatever this was or just let this be another thing that he gets excluded from.
nicoquinn calling it quits after jack breaking down and confessing that he loves them but he loves them separately. if they ever get together, it was going to ruin him and he doesn’t want to choose one or the other so he’s trying so hard not to fuck things up.
both nico and quinn had been trying to increase their personal time with jack at that point because they think that jack was just unhappy that they were spending time together instead of including him and luke. but the thing is even if all four of them hang out, it doesn’t change the fact that somedays quinn ends up in nico’s apartment instead of back to the frat house with jack and luke.
after nicoquinn stop hooking up, nico decided not to start a relationship with jack but instead fix their friendship first before moving to a relationship because he wants this to work so badly so they’re gonna do it the adult and healthy way forward.
nicojack gets together after a while and it took jack a few weeks to let off nico and quinn being friends because he trusts them but he doesn’t trust himself from conjuring up scenarios in his mind. it took marking up nico and wearing a bunch of matching outfits for his possessive gremlin side to calm down and nico is more than happy to oblige.
after nicojack told everyone they were together luke casually asked if he should try kissing nico once or something cause there must be something he was missing if both of his brother wanted nico. trevor calling dibs to be next after luke because he too is curious. this cause jack to ramp up his possessiveness level because now nico is officially his and he won’t let his little brother or bestfriend get their grubby hands on him so he bought a custom “property of jack hughes” shirt for nico to wear when he sleeps over.
quinn is just over the chaos at this point that he and jamie contemplates on running away but trevor has a jamie detector on him so he can’t run and quinn can’t exactly run away alone without it looking suspicious so he stayed.
i don’t really know how to end it tho because personally i am a big fan of everyone ending up with someone but i don’t have anyone i particularly ship quinn with, and idk if it’s a disservice to his character if i made him end up with someone instead of making it an open ended possibility of him getting with someone in another instalment / related fic when my brain worm decides to act up again. i do have one for luke but he’s not really prominent in the fic enough i could mention him dating ekky as a throwaway.
big fan of nico having two hands he could hold quinn and jack with but i think the jack in this universe would fry me in hot oil before i could make that happen..
anyways, do let me know what you think because this was going to rot in my drafts but if anyone likes the idea enough to make their own think piece, i would love to read it.
also i just never mention how nico just thought all the hughes were straight and they all were just different shades of queer and in my head only luke has his shit together to figure out he was pan early on in life while both quinn and jack needed a nico shaped assist to figure out they were gay and bi respectively (comphet older siblings things in a way or is that just a me thing?).
