I mean he has known Arthur his entire life and to get that angle of someone who had the chance to witness Arthur's best and worst moments, someone who's rooting for him despite his many flaws and someone who is unlike Lancelot and Gwaine much more connected with Arthur than with Merlin. There is so much warmth to gain from telling the love story through the eyes of a friend and I think that's so beautiful

I came across a tiktok about hp finale and I still think how tf Ron is a good choice for Hermione. I don't know, I cannot see the appeal of this couple and to be honest, I don't see how she could come to be happy with someone like Ron. Personally, I would have preferred for her to be a lesbian, but at the end of the day that wouldn't happen so I would have been happier if she ended up with Viktor Krum instead of Ron (I cannot stand how he behaves with her and how he treats her, she cried almost in every book because of him tf).

The way they fight and give each other the silent treatment? I remember that they always fight until danger arises and then poof, friends like before. Like what? They never outright resolve the issue, the same thing happens in the span of all seven books, culminating in the seventh when he outright leaves her and Harry. I think it was because of a horcrux? I don't remember very well, but it still wasn't very nice of him, considering his friends could have died.

Also the fact that he seems jealous of her, or constantly annoyed or the fact that he sometimes rolls his eyes at her and what she is passionate about does not contribute to endear him to me. And I don't understand how Hermione could settle for this? Because for them to work-and this is my personal opinion, don't want to ruffle the feathers to whoever worships romione or ron specifically-for them to work there should be an emotional growth, which honestly doesn't happen. As we see, in the epilogue of harry potter, ron is still very much childish (yeah, sure, character traits or whatever) especially when he sees Draco's son and he is like wanting to start a rivalry or whatever. Maybe it's the fact that the author doesn't know how to express maturity in her characters, or simply doesn't know how to develop, but at the end of the day it still looks like an overglorified teenage relationship that shouldn't have made it past that one kiss.

Adding to this, Ron's inferiority complex and Hermione's I'm always right is not exactly a good mix. They also don't have very much in common, and if you take Harry away from the equation, they probably wouldn't have made it even past 1st year. Hell, I think it it wasn't for the whole Voldemort thing, the trio wouldn't even existed*. Plus, I don't even understand where this relationship even came into existence. Apart from sixth year, when suddenly Hermione gets pretty angry and jealous of Ron for being with Lavender, there isn't any indication of romantic interest. Yes, they were children for the majority of the series, but even then, one starts creating romantic relationships with others, Hermione certainly did, so I don't even understand why when the romantic interest wasn't even there (at least from my point of view).

This has become a longer rant than what I had in mind, I hope I make sense and if someone wants to add or make me see the wonders that I am not seeing in this ship, feel free to do so.

*since I opened this can of worms: does anyone have some fic recs where hermione doesn't become friends with ron and harry, possibly one where voldemort doesn't exist. I would love to see what others came up with on this idea

I need to go on a rant about harry potter I am very sorry (I haven't read it again since I was 14 so I don't remember all that happened but)

The fact that all the evil and bad in the world come from one single Hogwarts house (Slytherin) is so fucking funny to me, because of the whole black and white concept. Sure, Peter Pettigrew or however his name is written was with voldemort and he was a gryffindor, doesn't change the fact that the majority of those present as death eathers are slytherin. You are telling me that from all of those wizarding pureblood families whose children were sorted into Gryffindor, Hufflepuff and Revenclaw not a single one was bigoted? Or had pureblood ideals? I don't even want to address the whole worldbuilding and every single plot hole in all of the seven books (there are a LOT) but it always seemed funny to me how only Slytherin are the bad guys and everybody else are the best guys around

(also the fact Merlin himself attended Hogwarts? She has build the whole worldbuilding on hopes and dreams)

I think people forget that Kara was executed for attempted murder, not magic. Even if she hadn’t had magic she would’ve been executed. Bc she tried to kill the king.

Also, Arthur gave her an opportunity to talk reasonably and she straight up refused. She stuck to her guns and had to deal with the consequences.

i have to push back on this pretty firmly. kara was someone who had already lived through the consequences of uther’s genocide of her people. she had every reason to believe, correctly, that camelot’s laws and camelot’s king represented an existential threat to her and everyone like her. calling her attempt to kill arthur “attempted murder” as if it exists in some neutral legal vacuum erases the actual context. she wasnt a random assailant. she was someone who had been failed and terrorised by the crown her entire life trying to stop the person who represented the continuation of that terror.

and the framing that “arthur gave her an opportunity to talk reasonably and she refused” puts the burden of reasonableness entirely on the person being oppressed. why would she owe arthur a calm conversation. why is the expectation that the victim of systemic violence has to negotiate politely with the system before resisting it. thats not a neutral standard, thats asking her to bend her knee to the exact structure that killed her people and calling her stubborn for refusing.

she didnt “stick to her guns” in some abstract principled stubbornness. she made a choice grounded in the very reasonable belief that arthur, despite individual moments of growth, still represented and enforced a violent system. and these double standards with kara are GLARING. merlin kills people constantly throughout this show. he kills to protect arthur, in service of the same crown that murders magic users, and yet most of the fandom celebrates this. nobody calls merlin a murderer who needs to be executed for his crimes. nobody says he should have just talked it out reasonably. if kara had been a man, this would be framed as heroic resistance against tyranny. but shes a woman, and a woman who refuses to perform graciousness toward her oppressors doesnt get the same narrative mercy, does she :) kara’s act of resistance against the actual architecture of her own people’s genocide is just something she has to deal with the consequences of, right?

and this isnt a hypothetical pattern, it shows up constantly with how real resistance gets talked about too. people who fight back against colonisation, against apartheid, against genocide, get held to this exact same impossible standard after the fact. why didnt they just negotiate?why didn’t they try the reasonable channels first?? why did they have to resort to violence??? the people asking these questions are rarely asking them about the violence of the oppressor, only the violence of the resistance. its a very old rhetorical move and its not neutral, its a tool for delegitimising people who fought back against something that was already killing them.

if the logic is “she had other options, she should have stayed calm, she brought this on herself by refusing to be reasonable with the person enforcing the system that killed her people” - do you say the same about anticolonial resistance movements or enslaved people who fought back against their captors instead of waiting patiently for the system to reform itself. surely you’re consistent about this and its not just convenient when the person resisting happens to be a woman who refused to perform gratitude toward her own oppressor . right
