Isn't this just the Merlin fandom?
some quick morgana x gwen studies i did while experimenting with new brushes :]
my lost boys 😔🕊️
Before I let you pass, I’ll give you a little advice. As courage, there are two more things you’ll need to complete your quest. Strength and magic…
The thing that kind of kills me is that Arthur and Morgana were SO similar. Like, SO similar. There's all these early season scenes where you see them both actively caring for Camelot's citizens, and Arthur visits the lower towns and knows exactly why his citizens can't afford a tax raise and Morgana sneaks food down to people waiting in line. And they both speak out against Uther, they just take it in turns and when Morgana is screaming at him Arthur is playing it safe and vice versa. They both clearly had similar principles and similar personalities and Morgana was just as oblivious as Arthur and Arthur was just as emotional as Morgana and it's just so sick and twisted that they ended up diverging from each other completely and becoming the worst versions of themselves and if they had just stayed together maybe things would have been different because they really did balance each other out and complement each other and bring out the best in each other and they could have built a better kingdom.
I give you gwen! Exams are over (for now) but merlin + drawing is good in the holidays too
I said I'm going to do it after my exam but I thought by then I'd be too burnt out to do anything than sleep so... Mercelot version soon...
"There are those who say he is the greatest sorcerer ever to walk the earth."
really shitty Merlin memes
I know it's because Arthur can't be without Merlin for a minute so he drags Merlin along on their little horseback riding trips but I think it would be so funny if in the early seasons Merlin actually wasn't allowed to/supposed to come on those trips and he just followed him anyway
Arthur, setting out on a peaceful patrol: finally, a moments peace!
Merlin, jumping out of the bushes: Surprise, bitch. You thought you could get rid of me? Where's my horse?
We joke about Arthur not noticing Merlin's magic because he's always getting knocked out, but so much of Arthur's character can be explained by the fact that he had SO much head trauma.
Mood swings, inconsistent memory, confusion, bouts of irritability, trouble thinking clearly: these are all concussion symptoms that Arthur passes off as personality traits because he's never recovered from a head injury before running off into battle again!
Julian Murphy: And did you really hit Merlin?
Bradley James: I did…I said to Alice, can I just grab his, his…I was like, I don’t really—I’m not sure if I should whack him ‘round the face. But having said that, we’d already filmed ep. 12, where he whacked me around the face, um, when we were leaning on the door and I’m falling asleep. And he went for it. Yeah, he went for it.
Julian Murphy: So it was revenge?
Bradley James: So I, yeah, I didn’t feel as guilty about it.
Julian Murphy: And how many takes?
Bradley James: What, hitting Colin? (laughs) Um, six. I kind of held back. ‘Cause he’s only—he’s only tiny.
bbc merlin except camelot had a newspaper and every once in a while there’d be some headline along the lines of “king arthur and his manservant disappearing for long intervals together in the woods Which Could Mean Nothing”
Arthur: Happy pride to all except my gay manservant who heavily implied that if I were gay he would not go out with me
Arthur:
Arthur *turns to Merlin*: Why the hell not?!
I would be more open to engaging with this idea that Merlin completely lost his moral compass in season 4 and 5(although I personally disagree,I think it was compromised yes but completely lost?? No and his intentions do matter) if people weren't using the strangest examples to prove it.
First you have to remember that this universe operates differently than ours. Killing is not this universal evil and there are many cases when it's not meant to be viewed as such(killing in battle, tournaments, self defence) but more so it's evil when you do it while 𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 ,like when Arthur killed the king of Carleon for instance that's a morally dark act because he didn't 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘰. It's why scenes like when Merlin spares kilgarrah, when Arthur doesn't kill Vivian's father and annis' champion, when Merlin saves Morgana while also removing the fever spell of Camelot, hit so hard.
All that being said, one of the examples I've seen given to for Merlin's descent into the Darkside and completely prortizing Arthur over everything is killing agravaine and his men.and tbh?I don't get it,even by our rules
Agravaine and his men are an invading force of a village of civilians for one. And two, forget Arthur for a minute,Agravaine and his men are literally about to kill 𝘔𝘦𝘳𝘭𝘪𝘯. They have backed into a corner with the intent to kill. Surely if you're about to die and have the power to fight back you would right?. And mind you he doesn't strike first,he tells them to back off,he doesn't even kill agravaine and until agravaine personally tries to kill him and gets close to doing so.
It's a grim scene sure, but i don't think we were meant to view this as a morally dark or even a morally grey decision. It's fairly uncomplicated as far as Merlin BBC is concerned.
Killing the bandits in the daegal episode is another. And again. These are men surrounding both Merlin and a teenager with the intent of major harm at the very least. Merlin tells them like three times to back off and they don't. That's on them. Besides who's to say the next person they attached would be lucky enough to be a powerful sorcerer? This isn't a "look how bad Merlin's gotten"scene.
Same with attacking the army as dragoon at the end of season 5. It's an invading force. He's literally just evening the odds for Camelot's army considering Morgana was helping the opposition. I don't see how this was meant to show Merlin going Darkside. I viewed it as an excuse to show us how powerful he is but maybe that's just me.
