The Loft (Somerset, KY)
The Loft died on the night of 09/12/2015. It didn't end with a bang, nor did it die fighting for survival. The Loft died standing on its feet, just like it would have been any other night. The Menagerie, Pictures of Vernon, Secret Stuff, and Leaving all played sets, while the weather went from a light drizzle to an all-out storm. The last show at The Loft is Tuesday, 09/15/2015, but tonight was the true last show and the end of The Loft's life. With all due respect to the acts that will be performing, Tuesday will be like trying to defibrillate a heart that has already stopped beating for good. The Loft died tonight. The Loft opened around a year ago as a local teen club that would feature dance nights and the occasional band. Almost immediately, it became a safe haven and a home for DIY music in KY. Our venue hosted bands from FL, GA, TN, KY, OH, IN, IL, MO, AZ, WY, NJ, NY, PA, KS, NC, MA, and more that I'm sure I left out. Over the stent of time that The Loft was open, I met many people that would end up being huge influences, being close friends, and impacting my life substantially. The Loft had a good run for Somerset. One can't be disappointed by it; it just requires you to move on and grow. A huge thank you to Sara Waddle for opening this place and for allowing us to make it our home. Words will never be enough to describe how thankful I am for everything that you have done for the local music scene. Also, thank you so much to Messes, Leaving, Lost Swimmer, House Olympics, Alleys, Lions, Secret Stuff, Gillian Carter, Sinai Vessel, any other band that has ever played here, anyone who has ever came to or booked a show here or supported The Loft in any way. Thank you from the bottom of my heart; I love all of you and won't forget about this anytime soon. Sara owns The Loft, but this was a home to every single person who was a part of the local music scene. I and many others have put countless hours into building up The Loft and booking shows over the past year, and tonight, I had to just sit there and watch as the thing that I have put all of myself into over the past year died. Rest in Peace.
