An afternoon in Christchurch spent with some friends
Making little books for the film I work on. Many compliments received on my work :)
So, I had a long Christmas break here and decided to go back home. There many friends and family have given me so much love and support, it revitalised my whole body. My last 4 weeks in Bournemouth have gone in and I enjoy every second of it (apart from the hand in for the projects, that is) Being back in Bournemouth, I had to treat myself with an English breakfast. Buttermilk pancakes with bananas and blueberries, love it!
Bathing in sun light
As the weeks have been flying by, I was invited to spend the weekend with my dad and his girlfriend. We stayed in a nice and cosy inn between Radstock and Frome, somewhere on the English hills, driving through some afforested roads. The sun was shining and the sky was starry.. It reminds me of the Ardenns back in Belgium. The land lady made sure we had everything to enjoy our stay as much as possible. The food was nice, and so was the wine. On Saturday, a visit to Bath was made, since it is so obvious to visit this nice city while in the neighbourhood. Bath Cathedral has these nice ribbed vaulted ceilings.
Dirty water
A visit to the Bath Terms or 'Aquae Sulis' was not excluded from the day trip. I thought these terms were very beautifully, the museum is built very well. You could even get a taste of the spring water, which was very rich on minerals and other elements that might surprise you (strontium..?!)
Tasty water? Dad thinks it is ok Still strolling around in the sun, having some good conversations,.. England has brought me a lot of emotions, these ones are pure joy and bliss.
23th November 2013 Bournemouth town centre has a little Christmas market till Chrismas eve and it is busier than usual Saturdays. At the bar I enjoyed some mulled wine or Glühwein with some international students, although it costed 4,5 pounds just for the wine and you had to pay 2,5 pounds for using the 'boot cup' . For this time, I accepted the price since it was colder than I expected. And the wine was nice, warming up to my freezing toe lumps. After that, I had to hurry to some animator's place to enjoy some lovely made sushi. The host spent two hours on making them graciously, I admire the work she has done.
London 2.0
Cold but sunny, peering through displayed books
Past weekend spent in London with two Erasmus buddies, we did a lot of things: for the first time experiencing couch surfing, revisiting Old Spitalfields market and the Shoreditch area, endlessly walking in the Tate Modern,... This city is refreshing each time you visit it.
coucou! The couch surfing went pretty well, we got to sleep in the room of a nice Brazilian student who bought some air beds and blankets especially for us. He was so nice, and in return we made him a simple but carefully balanced (English/continental) breakfast as thanks.
Brick Lane's art, do I know you?
There was a light Christmas atmosphere alongside the Thames, rows of little market stables engulfed one side of the river. On our way to Oxford Tower, there were some (old) books off any kind displayed on long tables. In the Oxford Tower, there are some nice little stores with unique design stuff. One store that drew my attention was a store with a range of original designs for watches to read the time in different ways. To give you an example of one of the watches that you can buy here..
Really motivating now
London keeps surprising and I definitly need a third and last visit before I go home. Christmas shopping is calling.. Spitalfields again?
Flower crowns, for which occasion?
A great weekend spent with two of my best friends who came all the way over from Belgium. Functioning as a guide, I showed them around Bournemouth. Additionally we visited the Russell Cotes museum, a Victorian aged house that is built into a museum, it had a small but great collection of paintings, sculptures and other 'gadgets' from all cultures.
Yesterday there were no big fireworks to be seen from Bournemouth, unless you walked all the way to Poole. Kinda disappointed.
'Stressed is backward spelled for Desserts.'
Enjoying some chocolate cake made by my lovely Mutti and sharing it with the people I like.
Recharging from a roller coaster
Being a long time away from home for the first time on my own has made me face some tough challenges. Some things were neglected for so long and this highly toxic brew was boiling inside, oozing negativity that blocked me. Still, I am not there yet. This weekend I found some renewed energy by spending time with some family that came over to London.
My father drove my brother, sister and a great friend of hers all the way from Belgium to London. We ate very good at this crazy Asian restaurant Inamo, ordering a lot of great dishes with our finger tips. Walking along the Tower Bridge, shopping at the Old Spitalfields and Portobello Market, talking and listening to the familiar voices, sayings and slang from home, it gave me so much strength to continue this adventure. I share this great love for the people close to me and I still might have some issues, but I know it is ok, I am getting up.
So Bournemouth, England, Europe, world,.. Shall we go on?
How I feel most of the days
Behold bad quality pictures with proof of the storm's destructive force. Here in Winton the people are lucky, unless I have missed something big.
In a side street of the Wimborne Road there is a small book shop. It is closing down and all the books are on sale for half the price. There were books on any subject you can imagine, even books for philosophy. Between the shopping I dwelled in the classic section and found out that even though it is a small shop there are many books that I have not read yet and never heard of most of them. “A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies, said Jojen. The man who never reads lives only one.” - George R.R. Martin I just put the quote here and I believe there is some truth in that. Through journeys full of imagination you get some insight in different things of life. You can read and know everything about life through books but going outside of the book's universe makes up your own story, your own book.
Chicken enchilada at Chimichanga's in Bmth town centre, gotta love it! For my friend's birthday we went for a lunch at this nice Mexican restaurant with other girls. Afterwards we were doing a little shopping. It was such a nice afternoon.
Updating
I have not been updating these past days, my resolution does not seem very credible now. Anyway, I try my best to write everything down that happened previous weekend. Last friday I went out with some of the international students, having a drink in the cozy (but a bit expensive) Conto Lounge Cafe. It was a nice late night chilling with some internationals. Saturday evening was nice, I was meeting up with Emilie and two other girls, Samah & Abby, to attend one of the events of the Arts by the Sea Festival Bournemouth. There was a movie screening of Alfred Hitchcock's 'Blackmail' of 1929, in the Pier Theatre. The movie was screened with the live orchestra 'Kokoro' directed by Jonathan Lloyd. It was a good film, already modern for his time and you can definitely see the signature of the famous director. He uses the camera in a way no other director would use it in that time and always finds a clever perspective for creating suspense. Enjoying a silent movie with a cup of white wine, this is pure joy. After the movie we went to eat somewhere and eventually to go out as well, but I had to call it a day very soon because of my cold. And Sunday I got a little drink with my Chinese house mate in the host family. I wonder what this weekend will bring to me..
