“But you’re my charm.” He replied, smirking. His words came out a lot smoother than he had anticipated, and it surprised even himself. No stutter. No awkward face twitching. Perhaps his therapy was working after all. As contact was made by her hand hitting him, Freddie twisted his body away, chuckling as his hands shot up beside his ears. “Okay, okay, I solemnly swear I will not swerve!” He complied, his hands falling back at his sides despite wanting to reach an arm around her shoulders and pull her in.
Only five minutes later and Freddie was pulling on the brakes over the handle bars, bringing them to a smooth stop curbside. “I thought for sure w-we were burning rubber…?” He said, sounding convincingly confused, though he was only pulling her leg. Removing himself from his bike, he quickly removed his bike lock from the body and hooked it up to a pole before turning to Mackenzie. “This way.” He said; his lips pulled into a wide smile as he led her into the ice cream parlour. Fortunately the place wasn’t busy today. Bringing Mackenzie right up to the glass, the lanky teenager looked to her, spreading his arms as he gestured to the bins of ice cream on the other side. “You can get whatever you want, however many scoops you want, however many you want, whichever way you want it.” He enthused. Truthfully, he was more excited over the fact that he was able to do this with her than the ice cream itself. “I’ll have three scoops of cherry on a waffle cone.” He said to the woman serving them, then turned back to Mackenzie, watching her, content, as he waited for her to order.
Mackenzie followed him into the parlor. This was the type of moment that she would defiantly boast to her friends about once she got home. Mackenzie could already imagine how she would construct a text. ‘OMG! you would not believe who I ran into today!’ or something along those lines, that would seem more like some click bait title. She was still relatively new to the texting life, and most of her texts we’re just desperate attempts to fit in, but really, what was the point?
Tapping her finger against her chin, Mackenzie examined her options, each choice looking better than the other. “Hmmm...” She hummed as she contemplated, before she decided to just stick with the familiar, and get vanilla. Mackenzie told her order to the lady, keeping it simple. Mackenzie flashed a small grin at Freddie, and leaned a shoulder on the glass as she waited for the worker to assemble their order. “You've already found the way to my heart.” Mackenzie commented, without thinking too much about what she was saying. “You just have to feed me.” She added, placing a hand on her stomach. How Awkward! She would defiantly be hitting her head against the wall over the comment later, but right then, she didn’t care.
Once the woman handed over Mackenzie’s plain cone, with two scopes of plain ice cream, she made an excited face. Gladly accepting it. “Ooh! Thanks!”
