ryland grace giving such aroace vibes stratt was probably like "oh good he wont fall in love so it'll be easier if i forcibly martyr him" and then he forms deep bonds and a love for his crew and friends and people and the world and everything and despite her explicitly cold exterior tries to befriend her and gets her to crack just enough to notice and she's like "ah. well. anyway"
Adrian: With all of that time up in space what did you and Grace do question?
Rocky: We learned to communicate, Grace showed me images from his home planet, I put on puppet shows for him—
Adrian: Puppet shows question?
Rocky: Grace is sometimes smart and other times very very dumb
If Adrian is a baddie that is bigger than Rocky they need to have the personality to match.
Imagine they were Rocky's defender against bullies on Erid since they were pebbles and now that Grace is on the planet they've re-doubled their efforts.
Worse is, this giant rock can get sassy and vicious and MEAN if they so desire:
Adrian: *hears some tiny eridian talking shit about Grace using instruments and other stuff to speak Eridian.*
Adrian: “Excuse, question?? You speak about Friend Grace that way, question?? With that ugly voice of yours, question??”
Rocky: “Adrian—”
Grace: “Adrian, please, this is not necessary —”
Adrian: “Hush. You two. They're grown rock, they're not pebble, they can answer Adrian just fine, statement.
Now, 🎶🎵...”
*Cue large as fuck Adrian towering over a petrified Eridian.*
Adrian: “Can 🎶🎵 repeat what they said about Friend Grace, question? With ugly little voice and ugly little body, question?”
Grace: “Holy shingles—”
Rocky: “Rocky knows... Aren't they amazing, question?”
I really love @lunarisart 's post about Adrian being a baddie and defending their alien friend from bullies. Maybe I'll eventually do a full comic of this, but honestly I'm ass at comics. I like this doodle though, and I love Adrian.
You know, one of my favourite things about Ryland Grace is how sociable he is. How easy it is for people to fall into his orbit. They show it time and time again. How much his students obviously love him, how he manages to hype up the dour suits whilst he's testing the astrophage, Carl playing with him in the Home Depot, the other government people eating his Skittles, Eva Stratt dragging him around everywhere and allowing herself to be just that little bit more vulnerable around him, Rocky and the Eridians embracing him as not just as a savior but family.
I know it's not explicit that Grace is aroace but so often, aroace people are portrayed as distant and independent and happily isolated. Sometimes even to the point of misanthropy. It's so nice to see a character like this who loves connecting with people. He's a rambler, he's excitable. So what if he doesn't have a family or a dog. He doesn't need them because he has everyone he meets and that's enough.

Shoutout to Project Hail Mary for being the only media where the unconscious protagonist is dragged off screen by an alien spider monster and the audience's reaction is heartbreak on behalf of the alien spider monster.
Genuinely PHM's portrayal of alien life as something to be cherished and worked alongside with instead of feared and fought and murdered because they might be a threat to us is SO refreshing and I'm so glad everyone is acknowledging it.
This absolutely includes the astrophage thank you so much for mentioning that!!! It's never once put in a light that makes it seem like ANY aspect of alien (to us) lifeforms are malicious. They're certainly causing a bit of a problem for us, sure, but they're not doing it because of an innate hatred of humanity or because they want some kind of galactic dominance. They're just a part of nature, doing what they've biologically been programmed to do to survive. AND because they're then engineered to be fuel, they also get to, once again, BE WORKED ALONGSIDE in a manner of speaking, to be a solution to the problem rather than something that needs to just outright overall be eradicated. I fucking love this movie so much.

Stratt, being cranky and rude to someone: I don't have time for this, I have humanity to save-
Grace, without his morning coffee in his system and too many nights without proper sleep, reverting to teacher mode: Ehi, you can't use saving humanity as an excuse every time you're an asshole to someone! Let's regulate our emotions, redirect our frustations, bring basic respect into our interactions with others, and see how the world doesn't end any sooner, shall we?
Stratt: ...
Grace: ...
Grace: I'm so sorry. I'm mortified. Please don't kill me.
Stratt: ... I have a meeting with at least twenty old, stubborn, very powerful men in fifteen minutes. Can you do that again?
Grace: I-
Stratt: You will do that again.
Stratt: Please.

they really designed a rock spider alien that gives me uncontrollable cuteness aggression. I love him. I love the way he skitters and his dainty little claws and his tattoo carvings and his whistley language. I want to hug him so bad even though it would kill us both.
THUNDERBOLTS*
(via @canadiankazz)
The Hulk is a richly layered character connected to but independent of Bruce who has the ability to grow and change on his own and is NOT stupid or ‘bad’ in any way. In fact, if we consider the gamma radiation accident to be the hulk’s ‘birth,’ then in reality he is barely a toddler and thus the only difference between him and other toddlers is that he is powerful enough that his completely NORMAL temper tantrums have the capability to cause destruction amongst his weaker human counterparts. He isn’t really so much a beast controlled by anger as he is a complex being with a range of human emotions. Since he is, in essence, both an independent being but also a projection of Bruce’s own psyche and emotions, as a young being, he is expressing the anger that Bruce was never allowed to express during his own abusive childhood. However, by no means does that make this the ONLY emotion Hulk is capable of expressing. In fact, in Sakaakr, aka the only place in Hulk’s young life that he was allowed to remain present for any significant length of time since his creation, we see him making friends and progressing to full sentences. Therefore, the hulk is not so much a ‘violent, stupid beast’ as merely a super-powered child in the beginning stages of his young life. In this essay, I will-
I had a dream last night where The Avengers were at Starbucks when there was a random shooting and Loki got shot. And everyone was like “OMG we have to get you to the tower for medical care!” And Loki just gave an unimpressed eyebrow and goes “not until I get my coffee, bitch.”
Bruce, at HQ: The bullet nicked your lung and you’re bleeding internally.
Loki, disinterested, drinking Frappuccino: FRIDAY, play tangled but photoshop Thor’s face onto rapunzel.
